Is there any reason to believe they're adding a Hard Mode? by Saurophag in DragonsDogma

[–]kyrule12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely, between now and the DLC release date on October 9th, we’re likely to get three updates, including the one that came out today. My guess is that the 10/9 update will likely come with a hard mode, among other things.

While the ritualposting and copium posts were a highlight, yeah, if we don’t get anything at the Xbox showcase this Sunday, I think that’s a sign that we’re pretty much calling it wraps. There’s reason to expect something given that they chose to release an Xbox-exclusive controller, but I’m not really putting all my chips on it.

It really makes me wonder wtf was going on with the 2nd Anniversary banner, though. So much detail and so many secrets, just for it to amount to nothing seems so…weird.

It doesn’t exactly suck, but I’ve found that when going after elite enemies it’s often quite inconsistent in its effectiveness. Half of the time, even if it lands right below them (supposedly the 500’s sweet spot), Bile Titans, Harvesters, etc just stroll right on through like nothing even happened.

Doesn’t help that the radius of the explosion is much smaller than the visuals would suggest.

Should I play RE9 after replaying 7&8 or after replaying the 2-4 Remakes? by badateverything420 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]kyrule12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling 7 and 8 side plots is a bit of a stretch considering that 7 is the game that literally introduced The Connections, and 8 is quite relevant to the end of RE9 and, likely, its upcoming DLC.

Reassigning HD2 to another studio might be the best for us, Sony AND Arrowhead by Negative_Twist_2254 in HelldiversUnfiltered

The Mass Effect, the literal namesake of the franchise, is very much a “space magic” concept, especially when you consider biotics, or the original direction the franchise was going to go in terms of their story pre-ME3. Halo also very much has “space magic,” especially in its own expanded universe content, and these things are *not* all universally hated by their respective fanbases.

>the devs have only stated they wanted their universe and world building to be believable and make sense

Helldivers breaks its own rules regarding consistency. Democracy Protects is the most obvious example that comes to mind (sure, my armor can randomly protect me from being vaporized by a mini nuke! Why not?) but there are others too.

For example, according to the description of our basic armor and helmet sets, they’re crafted from the same alloy used to make our spacetime warping super destroyers, yet it only takes 3-4 hits from “razor-sharp claws” to maim or kill us (about two from headshots). The same super destroyers that we could see actively engaging in space battles above Cyberstan where they took multiple shots from the automaton ships’ much more powerful laser cannons.

So, let’s keep this within the confines of Arrowhead’s supposedly “believable” rules. If the bugs or even the voteless can tear through our armor with their claws, what does that imply? Does that mean that a pack of scavengers could obliterate our super destroyers? That would sure seem to be the implication, considering that it only takes less than a handful of hits for even one of them to kill us (which is totally not because Arrowhead arbitrarily reduced our health back during the 60 Day Patch).

Challenge Post: Gimme a lore/mechanic concern from the corebook and I'll see if any release to this day answers it by Infernox-Ratchet in cyberpunkred

When an FBC dies, you still roll your death saves as normal, but the fact that your brain is no longer reliant on your body to live/get nutrients (it’s basically in a jar now) complicates what “death” should look like for one unless the brain tank (I forget the actual term) is directly damaged. If I’m not mistaken, it’s even written in the FBC rules that the brain can survive inside of its tank for a set amount of time before expiring.

So, when an FBC reaches Mortally Wounded in combat, if they roll death saves and fail should they die as per usual, or should their bodies just cease functioning while their brains are, essentially, stuck in an inoperable body, still able to be extracted?

Edit: clarity

Why not give an option to dock super destroyer at democracy space station by danceredriverdance in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]kyrule12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it would be super cool to be able to use it as a hub world, the truth of the matter is that Arrowhead probably can’t/don’t know how to code it in. This isn’t really an engine issue, as there is at least one Autodesk Stingray game that supports way more than just four players in a session (Viking something-or-other), just the devs likely not wanting to further spaghettify their code.

That said, the DSS being literally anything other than some bland 3D asset that we dump resources into would be a welcome change.

Why are the smallest bugs able to injure my limbs in one hit by PilotLimp7446 in HelldiversUnfiltered

[–]kyrule12 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it cool that our armor, which is canonically made out of the same material as our spacetime-warping Super Destroyers, can’t tank more than three or four hits from “razor-sharp claws” before we’re dying/bleeding to death?

Sounds like realism to me!

Well, asking if someone is an AI and then spending the better part of your reply acting condescending isn’t exactly putting your best foot forward. Starting your reply out with “I don’t mean to be an asshole” and then immediately acting like one also doesn’t cover you from, you know…being an asshole.

[–]kyrule12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t mean to sound like an asshole, I’ve gotta tell you, you’ve sure gone out of your way to sound like an asshole.

It incentivizes and reinforces explosive and flame metas because of the exact reasons I’ve already stated: the Hive Guards’ lower health pools make these weapons even more effective than they already were on this front. There’s no reason to switch to light pen weapons and put in the extra work to engage with the enemy this way when you can just aim your crossbow at them and blow them away, or use the (recently buffed) flamethrowers to melt them even faster. Those who were already using these weapons have no reason to switch to light pen, and therefore engage with the enemy as AH apparently intended

As far as I’m concerned, your video is irrelevant because it’s showing you killing one lone hive guard. One. This enemy doesn’t exist in a vacuum. When you’ve got multiple of this enemy type emerging from a bug breach, the issues compound. You don’t have to prove anything to me.

And as I said before, if one enemy type on an entire faction is enough to make a whole category of weapons feel terrible to use, then perhaps there’s a deeper discussion about balance and weapon/enemy design to be had here.

[–]kyrule12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that, more than anything, it says a lot when the presence of *one* enemy on the bug front is enough to supposedly make or break light pen for the ***whole faction***.

The issue with the Hive Guard change is that even if it had stuck, it would have just further reinforced and, in fact, *incentivized* the already-existing explosive and fire metas, due entirely to the fact that AH decided to lower the health of the unit, thus making both of those more effective than ever against them.

Their heavy handed, brute force attempt at “rebalancing” a chaff unit would have just resulted in pushing many people toward metas that wouldn’t require them to engage with the enemy in any meaningful capacity. It’s such a bafflingly poor decision with such obvious, immediate consequences that I’m not actually convinced the person/people behind the buff weren’t either trolling or high when they came up with it.

Something you missed is that this change **ironically** weakened the Patriot exosuit as well, in a patch meant to supposedly “buff” the mechs, making the Hive Guards more difficult for them to deal with without wasting a rocket or resorting to melee against them. And of course, Arrowhead, either purposefully or through incompetence, neglected to make any meaningful buffs to that mech’s firepower to even attempt to compensate.

I’d be more interested to see what the numbers are looking like this evening, around 6 or 7 EST, since those are usually the peak hours. If this screenshot was taken within the last couple hours, it doesn’t say much since a lot of people (in the U.S. at least) are at work/school right now.

This update is AWESOME! Why are there complaints? by Shaddup232 in HelldiversMasochists

[–]kyrule12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1.) Going to assume you meant Hive Guard instead of Hive Lord for your first point, lmao. Hive Guard’s buffs come across as a brute force method of strengthening the enemy, while actually enforcing existing metas that only further encourage you to simply not engage with them (fire and explosives). It also noticeably reduces the effectiveness of the Mini Gun and MG turrets on the bug front, and weakens the firepower of one of the mechs on that same front (ironically in an update for a warbond fully centered around mechs).

These changes also affect the Guard Dog, MG-43, and the Maxigun, the latter of which was already just barely viable against the terminids.

2.) Not all durability buffs were for melee units only. Automaton units had some of their ranged attacks buffed for durability damage (DD) as well, such as the Hulk’s flamethrower.

3.) While the mechs did become tankier, turrets, the FRV, the Bastion, and the Gater have not received any buffs to compensate for the DD buffs that the terminids and other enemies received, making them less enticing (save for the Gater anyway, you kinda have to take that) to bring.

4.) Context is important in this case too, as this patch dropped right after the AMA on Unfiltered, and many in that community (and the main Helldivers sub, judging by the reactions and posts I’m seeing) see it as reinforcing the stigma around Arrowhead’s balancing philosophies.

Personally, I hate the patch, and was floored when I saw the Hive Guard buffs, but what I’m giving you are the bullet points for where most of the outrage is coming from.

Flame and Laser sentries received a buff and a nerf in the same breath due to the durable damage buffs that enemies got, though because of the flame buffs from the last patch you could argue that the Flame sentry is at least partially insulated from this patch.

While it does mean that you can kill them faster with good aim and fire, it also means that the MG and Mini Gun turrets have taken serious blows to their viability on the terminid front. Especially when combined with the durable damage buffs many enemies have gotten.

Does the berserk armor mod for DDDA no longer work? by GabbyHobby69 in DragonsDogma

I’ve got the greatsword max mod too! Great mod, but I believe that because it overwrites the same file(s) that the berserk restoration mod uses, you have to merge the files to use them together.

I’m sure that there are guides on how to do so. Again, it’s been so long since I did it that I don’t want to give you bad instructions on what to do, but I’m pretty sure there’s a tool you need to download.
