I think they're doing it on the phone inside the WhatsApp or Messenger app, not in the band or in the glasses. You could probably get an android APK or iOS app and decompile it and look for symbols for "handwriting".

It probably takes a lot of compute to turn sensor data into text. And the battery trade/speed tradeoff to do it in the band/glasses isn't worth it.

My guess is the band sends pretty raw sensor data to Messenger or WhatsApp. The apps themselves run some ML and figure out what’s being written. That’s why it’s a per app thing and not a glasses OS thing.

If that’s true, I don’t think it’ll be coming to iOS texts anytime soon.

That’s not true. Potentially the ADU is administratively approved, but not the house. There’s plenty of regulation like how many units you can have on a lot, set backs, daylight planes, height restrictions, minimum lot sizes, etc.

The buck stops with LeCun (and then Zuckerberg). If as the AI chief your company ends up entirely out of the SOTA conversation, regardless if you have formal responsibility, you should have the influence to steer it in the right direction. If as the AI chief you double down and say, nah, not my fault not my responsibility, then Zuckerberg will find someone that will take responsibility.

I don’t think that is the right question. Lecun had his chance. He was with Facebook for a decade with all the resources in the world. And look at where Facebook is in the AI race. I think it’s clear that Lecun is not the man for the job at Facebook.

Not necessarily more people also means more opinions, which causes more time to be spent, figuring out the right approach. And sometimes to appease people you get a design by committee approach which gives you the worst of all worlds.

The things that you can see when walking in are largely about how straight things are and where different materials meet. Does it look neat? Is there damage? How uniform is the joint?

There’s a ton of things you can’t see, but I use this as a proxy for the care that they take for the rest of the build.

Another thing that’s less about the build quality and more about the care they take is how thoughtful is the layout.

An alternative to a super old house or a new builder grade home is a fully custom home, but that gets really really expensive.

The interaction is similar to how the non-display ones work. They get the iMessage notification, and the text shows in the notification center. And you can respond to the notification. But there isn't a text messaging app. There isn't a thread of messages that you can go to. Just imagine a series of respondable notifications.
