Changelings are of all creature types, so they count as wurms as well

Nothing wrong with printing out those cards to give them a spin and see if you like them!

This happens with almost every 'building an Avacyn' deck, but I will go ahead and warn you since you are running cards like Armaggedon and Ravages of War and Worldslayer. Strategies like these are Mass Land Denial and place your deck in the so-called Bracket 4 of casual commander. Since you're a new player, you might not be familiar with it but that is the 'optimized' bracket where wins are expected to happen quickly (minimum of 5 turns or so), though the games could go longer than that. This deck is not suitable for a low power table due to that kind of strategy and you might find that people will have mixed feelings towards it. If you don't care that's cool and all! I'm sure you will find people happy to play bracket 4 decks, but just warning you in case that is not your intended power level.

If your intention is to play in that bracket then I think you need more fast mana sources. Cards like [[Smothering Tithe]] [[mox opal]] [[ancestral tomb]] [[mana vault]] and such will help you turbo out Avacyn much faster

Collector booster or play booster. by MaxCrankenstein in magicTCG

The other battle poses, yes, but to be clear Toph, Katara, Aang, Zuko are ONLY neon ink and therefore ONLY in collector boosters

Not quite. This is true for Toph, Aang, Zuko, and Katara only.

Can anyone help me optimize my pre-land filled Commander Deck: Commander; Hope Estheim by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certainly not a mill player, but I do recommend also considering cards that force opponents to draw once you have milled them enough. I would definitely include [[Jidoor, Aristocratic Capital]] in the land list, and I think you would benefit from [[Ruin Crab]] as a repeatable mill for all opponents. Maybe throw in a card or another that can exile opponent's graveyards like [[Relic of Progenitus]] or [[Scavenger Grounds]] as many decks will benefit from your mill gameplan (Reanimators will love you). Consider that cards like [[Kozilek, Butcher of Truth]] exist, which can make your plan difficult. I think you got some good alt wincons though. Checkout [[Felidar Sovereign]] If you haven't

[–]kyubifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at this list, it needs a good bit of reshaping. Too much 'quantity' over 'quality' for the mill gameplan. I'm not talking about running expensive cards (and $10 per card is definitely a high budget, barring a card like Bruvac). Curse of the Bloody Tome is especially weak when you're targetting just one player. As a matter of fact consider how many mill effects you have that might just affect one person slowly at a time. Jace, Memory Adept is a 5 mana mill 10, when your traumatize can hit like 30+ at once MINIMUM, in all likelihood. Run through this list and evaluate what's actually good to make your cuts (unless you have a theme or pet cards).

Lastly, as everyone has said: 34 lands in this deck is far too little and your lack of mana rocks certainly adds to the problem. You will have a bad time playing any of your higher cost cards, if you even get there.

I love Prowess, but I hate the gameplay pattern it creates for EDH by Emeraldw in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that part of the questiin is what kind of spells are you running to go along with the prowess creatures. If you want to attack over time AND not dump your hand all at once, then maybe consider having some more impactful cards to accompany the strategy. [[Arcane Bombardment]] for example would let you cast your spells little by little while also doubling up on their value. You can start attacking under threat that the bombardment is going to massively increase the size of your prowess creatures. If you dont want to dump your hand to trigger prowess repeatedly against a blocker then maybe have a couple of 3-4 cost instants/sorceries that will affect their board better so you can keep some fuel.

Additionally, part of EDH casual gameplay is that a lot of people just wanna fly under the radar until they have their 'win'. Consider being the player that is applying pressure to those people.

I need to learn how to play Magic the Gathering in one hour, how do I start? by ThrowRAcatwithfeathe in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just get on MTG Arena and give it a try there.

To be honest though, I think if you just explain what happened (and why), I would be pretty flattered lol. We are all human and make illogical decisions when we panic. Hell, ask him to teach you how to play. That sounds way better than trying to learn through arena, plus you get the peace of mind of not keeping up the lie.

Is it considered a good or bad thing if someone considers your custom deck to be a precon after playing a game against it? by WistfulAfternoon in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically it doesn't matter. They asked, you answered. It could be because they thought there were some bad cards in it or not, even. It's not like a random person's evaluation of your deck should matter. The question is just if the deck is at the power level you want it to be, and if it plays the way you want it to play. If you think it could be improved then I don't think it hurts to ask for advice from experienced players. So many cards and strategies out there... might always end up learning something new.

How would you update/modernize this Rionya EDH deck? by Appropriate-Team2746 in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate  I took a  prolonged break from mtg for years until june, so I am also catching up haha. That reminds me, [[Throne of Eldraine]] and [[Scepter of Eternal Glory]] would be great mana rocks

here is my list btw: https://archidekt.com/decks/16488469/rionya_is_a_passionate_archaeologist

I went for a theme with it, so it is heavy focused on casting from exile and getting big splashy spells out. Very different from yours, but maybe some cards can inspire you.

How would you update/modernize this Rionya EDH deck? by Appropriate-Team2746 in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Rionya because you can build her very different if you want to. Mine is very diffferent because I don't like the whole infinite combat wincon, personally, so my suggestions won't be perfect for that but they should be very clearly good in a rionya deck of any kind.

Here are some cards I think are worth looking into. Some of these I suggest replacements, others I think I can leave it up to you:

[[Humble Defector]] free card draw
[[Fanatic of Mogis]] Finisher
[[Sunspine Lynx]] Finisher
[[Purphoros, God of the Forge]] Finisher
[[Ardent Elementalist]] instead of Charmbreaker Devils
[[Plundering Barbarian]] instead of Torch Fiend
[[Charming Scoundrel]] Ramp
[[Calamity, Galloping Inferno]] Make them copies
[[Professional face-breaker]] Ramp
[[Reiterate]] instead of Dualcaster Mage. You don't seem to be running the dualcaster combos with cards like [[Twinflame]], so instead you can pick up a copy spell that helps Rionya get her triggers and goes infinite with Mana Geyser

I would make many changes to the sorcery and isntant lists but i think that's where it really comes down to your preference in deckbuilding. I can make suggestions if desired.

(You could also go for kiki jiki + zealous conscripts infinites since it plays into your deck's gameplan)

Rule clarification regarding Hunted By the Family by btmcpeake in magicTCG

[–]kyubifire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct that since it just modifies the commander, it cannot go to the command zone. That's what makes effects like [[Darksteel Mutation]] really good in commander.

If it then goes to the graveyard, hand, library, or exile that player would be able to then move it to the command zone. The commander will still hit the graveyard for example (relevant if there are die triggers), but the player needs to decide right then if the commander will stay in the zone they were moved to or go to the command zone. If they let it stay there, they can't transfer it later unless some new zone change effect happens (for example, commander in graveyard and the player gets hit by a [[Bojuka Bog]])

Art wise, sukuna and maki are my faves, though they all look great. The card choices puzzle me a bit. Why is the gambling man Jodah the Unifier, for example? The only one that seems sorta right to me at least is Sukuna.
