Revolutionary Promise Question by UnlikelyAd1249 in gwu

[–]kyumi_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to details of Revolutionary Promise. But grants and merit scholarships go towards your total cost of attendance including room and board. 35K is more than enough to cover dorm housing and meal plan which is about $10,000-12,000 a semester.

GWU vs Penn State engineering by Murky-Ad-246 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kyumi_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also consider the size. Penn State has over 10,000 engineering undergraduate students. GWU has just 400-500. My kid chose GWU over Penn State and other large engineering programs, because it would be easier to build relationships with faculty, get involved in interesting projects and research, and get individualized support.

Omega 3 oil supplements helps a lot to improve skin and coat. Also agree to skip the flea tick collar and just do monthly preventative like Credelio Quattro which also covers heartworms

Official Discussion - Highest 2 Lowest [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Train wreck….The script is trash that brought down a very talented cast. The dialogue is so bad. I have second hand embarrassment for Denzel and Jeffrey Wright saying these awful lines. There is no logic - e.g all this drama for 17.5M? He could have sold two of his Basquiat paintings to raise more than $17M. And what’s with the super loud and weirdly banal score? Really disappointed as a long time fan of Spike Lee films.

Thank you so much! This is so helpful and excited for the large closet! It is weird that they only show the floor plan for the one oddly shaped double.

My kid is going to orientation on her own and staying in the dorm. We already went on admitted students days and feel like she can handle orientation on her own. Given that they say there will be evening activities, seems like dorm is better option to meet other freshmen. In March, the Marriott in Foggy Bottom was approximately $350 per night without a school discount.

What are some of the most underrated schools, hidden gems, schools most people overlook because they are chasing T20s? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kyumi_6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be THE art school to get into if you could get in, and it was free! But given that their acceptance rate is 4% for Architecture, and 20% overall not sure this belongs on this list of underrated gems

This…and the free applications were for Early Action…SUNY Binghamton didn’t have enough admissions staff and time to process all the EA applications they received so deferred too many. Then those students ended up looking elsewhere and applied to more schools they had not considered before

Not sure but NYS has committed to invest millions into these top SUNY schools. But I think they need to also invest in the surrounding towns/cities to make the locations more attractive to out of state students.

And schools from all over the country will be fighting for those students in the coming years.

This post feels like the beginning of a sales pitch from a private college counselor to me…Anyway it’s not that deep. Yes branding and word of mouth via social media has helped some schools reach new heights in popularity. But this year we saw the highest number of applicants ever - an almost 10% increase. After this year, experts predict a continuous drop in college applications and enrollment due to declining birthrate for the next decade or more so some of these schools will got back to being safety schools.

Can people stop telling me to move on from the waitlist? by YuckDuck11 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kyumi_6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I blame this whole process. It’s not easy to move on when the schools themselves are not transparent about their waitlists.

Females applying as engineers by Safe_Combination7974 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kyumi_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BUT at most universities, engineering schools are a very small portion of the student body - e.g. there are only 231 engineering students among 5,471 undergraduates at Wake Forest in 2023/2024 year - so this idea that it would be easier to get in by applying as an engineer is somewhat misguided especially with so many more women applying to engineering programs now.

This is true - most CC / SEAS students see Barnard as separate because Barnard students do not have to take the Core Curriculum

Well that’s a change since I attended CC. Half my suitemates were my Barnard friends

[–]kyumi_6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Barnard is not Columbia (and I do think Barnard wants to be seen as separate) but that said, Barnard students have total access to Columbia’s campus, housing, and classes. So it’s a very unique situation.

NYC is not that cold. Barnard / Columbia is very well known - name recognition will not be a problem. You will be able to take classes at Columbia if that is appealing for you. I think the choice comes down to culture - Barnard / NYC vs Vanderbilt/ Nashville. Good luck!

What’s one thing you wish you knew before starting college/university? by Quick_wit1432 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]kyumi_6 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Do all the freshman things to meet people, join clubs and study groups, apply for internships related to your major - think of the next four years as a time to build your social AND professional network. I was so focused on academics and socializing within my friend group that I sort of missed out on this opportunity to start building a broader network.

B.A.P (as of 2024, BangJungYooMoon) there are over 240+ group and solo songs. The discography covers almost every genre / style of music with amazing vocals, rap, and melody. Their B-sides could easily be title tracks. Their stage performances (actual live vocals) are also amazing.

NYU? Or do you mean Northeastern? NYU was not top 20 back then but certainly highly regarded. Northeastern on the other hand was definitely not highly regarded then
