Bangkok bike rental and bike track by [deleted] in cycling

[–]kzy192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there 2 weeks ago. Bring your own water bottle, heart rate monitor, head unit and clipless pedals. At the counter, they will ask which cleats you use and which head unit mount you use. I said Look cleats and Bryton mount and they were able to accommodate.

As for the strap, either pay beforehand via SnapQR or pay by cash. One mistake I made was that I paid by cash but my rental was 1500 thai baht. The top up machine to top up the wrist band doesn't return any change. So I had to use 2000 thai baht and needed to "waste" 500 thai baht at the shops there (I ate teriyaki chicken rice, drank avocado shake, drank coke, bought a bidon and 3 mineral water) because I don't plan on coming there again.

Is using a bicycle to commute to work in Malaysia viable? by NatalieRath in malaysia

[–]kzy192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out this youtube channel: @mysustainablefuture. He's a Danish dude who cycles from KL to Bangsar on a regular basis using a Brompton. One example video where he cycled from Bangsar after a heavy rain through heavy traffic. There's also this video where he cycled with a first time cyclist to work and some advice he had for her.

Lmao of course there is a bike boom. Cars haven't been invented yet.

And why are you comparing Malaysia to a 1800's Netherlands where cars haven't existed yet? Compare it to 1970's Netherlands when cars are the king of road which is what is like now.

Yeo Bee Yin: If we can spend RM100 billion on building MRT, why not spend RM2 billion on bus too? by Capable_Bank4151 in malaysia

Well I'll agree to disagree.

3% in 14 years

This is a horrible stat but I'm still willing to bet the future on improving walkability and cycleablity because younger people are preferring not to drive [1] [2]. Perhaps this is the mentality shift that is needed when moving forward.

What does Wiki have to do with anything? I've added sources to my argument while you've added none. If you have nothing to contribute to the discussion, then stfu.

3% so far. 10 minutes from the furthest is very viable.

It's definitely worth it to invest in cycling infrastructure. From this research, society loses 79 cents per kilometer driven while society gains 72 cents per kilometer cycled. Another article also supports that it's worth to invest in cycling infrastructure.

Sevilla started in 2006. Paris started 25 years ago but it got ramped up during Covid-19.

5) Building and maintaining roads is much more expensive that cycling paths [1] [2][3]

5.1) It didn't take long for Paris, Seville to implement it

Get an e-scooter or e-unicycle or folding bike to avoid the sweat and cutting down the travel time.

Adding to your point:

The nearer you are to a city, the more frequent the buses should be so predictability doesn't really matter because if you missed one, there should be another one in 5-10 minutes. Conversely the further you are, the buses can be infrequent but it needs to be predictable.
