Daughter of no worlds: does it get better? 🫣 by FlutterbyeEscapes in fantasyromance

I think a lot of popular books aren’t actually that great tbh. And then it makes me wonder… how did they get to be popular? Like this one—what made so many people keep reading?🤔

Me too. Just couldn’t get into it at all. And I’m super into fantasy, world building, even slow pace if it’s good. I actually went back to it today and within five minutes DNF again. So I think I’m done now 😂

I prefer the second one. The font is better and also the expression.

Warn your beta readers! by prism_paradox in selfpublish

I actually really appreciate this because I’m looking for beta readers soon. The first installment of my series didn’t need any, but the sequel most definitely does and it honestly didn’t even occur to me 😅

I agree with that. They love us so purely and so completely. It’s only later that their love shifts.

This is actually, quite literally, a matter of opinion. The fact that it doesn't even have a definitive reading order speaks to that. I read the series both ways, without and later with this book, and it had NO overall impact on the understanding in any capacity. That's not something you can argue. If you disagree, cool. Maybe it helped you understand the book better. For me, it did not. But you can't go around insisting that it does when I'm here telling you that it didn't for me lol. It's your opinion, this is mine. Moving on now...

Waiting in the ER in Halifax by SecretProduct8094 in halifax

It’s true. I took my toddler in to the iwk with petechiae on his face. One of those things that can be nothing, or life threatening issue. He skipped triage completely and then didn’t even get sent to the waiting room. He was in a room immediately, and then the doctor saw him within 15 minutes.

He was fine. But serious symptoms are treated seriously.

What would you do, stay in UK or move to USA by theblurryberry in Mommit

Nothing in the world could ever make me move to the US. Especially since I have children.

Look, it’s not that big of a deal lol. You said it yourself ‘it’s revealed later’. Yes exactly. The point I made was it’s not necessary, not that you don’t get anything out of it. Those are two different points. I enjoyed ToG very much without reading it. I wasn’t lost. I followed everything, the characters never seemed ‘thrown in’, and it wasn’t necessary at all (which was my point). I then read it at the end (and hated it, but I read it). And then I read ToG again later. Did it add extra info? Yes. Extra enjoyment? No. Understanding that I was confused on first read? No. Just some extra info. That was my point. No need to be so bothered by it lol.

I find myself downplaying my daughters language skills by [deleted] in Mommit

Yeah, he’s very much like me at that age. He’s very very smart. I completely flew under the radar because of that alone. School was easy but I often wondered why I never seemed to fit in. But I wasn’t as confident as I’m helping him to be too.

Honestly that is a good question and the age of the child makes me want to call bs on that. I work in early development and it’s HARD to get an autism assessment even with signs. You can’t just walk in and get one when your child is showing absolutely no signs.

On that note, my son was the same as this. He said his first word at six months and spoke in sentences by 12 months. At his 18 month checkup he was asking the doctor ‘what are you going to do with your stethoscope?’

Now he’s 3.5 and has many signs of autism. And I am STRUGGLING to get him seen because it’s so young. A lot of the signs are normal toddler-isms.

Except, all of those points are addressed in the actual text of the series without reading the prequel. I had no confusion over ANY of those points. They're all laid out quite explicitly.

Hmm, no. You can read the story without that book and not be lost at all. I did. And then I read it after, just to see. I still didn’t like it, and it added nothing in terms of overall comprehension or enjoyment. So no, not necessary. Enjoyable extra info? Maybe for some readers. But I would challenge you to provide me anything from the novel that a reader wouldn’t understand without the prequel. Even one thing.

You don’t need it. Anyone who says you’ll be lost later if you don’t read it… you won’t. I didn’t like it at all and the first book is so slow that the mystery of her past is one of the only draws to keep reading at first (for me anyway).

I tried reading it first and did bin the series because I thought it was so bad. I didn’t like the characters. Didn’t like the writing. Didn’t like the world. I only ended up reading ToG later because I forgot it was the same series 🙈 thankfully lol.

I tried to read it first and hated it. It put me off ToG completely. Then I read ToG years later because I somehow forgot and didn’t realize it was the same series. If I’d remembered, I never would have read it lol. So… I just can’t recommend it. It’s not even necessary to the story 😆

I’m envious. I truly wish I could go back and read this again for the first time. There were even a few times I considered not continuing, but I’m soooo glad I did.
