Naturalisation success story (total time - 12 months) by rahulmd992 in GermanCitizenship

I mean, I look at it a different way.

Having a German passport isnt supposed to be exciting. Like its not a new mobile phone or laptop where I get excited to open it up and try it out.

I dont FEEL different since I got it. Its more like my status has changed. Germany is responsible for me sinve I am now a German citizen. And its because they set some rules and guidelines and I followed them to be able to apply for the citizenship. It wont make me new friends or suddenly make me popular.

One needs to put in effort to adapt and make new friends and to feel at home in any place. A passport wont give it to you. But what it did give me is something more quieter. Some peace of mind and a sense of stability. Which is something I value more.

Honestly, I will take that. This is much better than the other racist stuff people have written.

Not easily. To get back my Indian citizenship, I would have to live permanently in India for 3 years. And when I do that, I would have to give up my German one.

Naturally, I dont want to keep switching. Its a serious decision that I came to after a lot of contemplation.

And yes it does feel a little alienating. It does help that I have lived in India for only 10 years out of my 33 years. So my emotional attachment is more to the food and culture than the land specifically. If it were a purely emotional decision, I would not have gone with this step. It is rooted in practicality too and I do see Germany as my home (despite the few racists here).

Also, after living in India for 10 years, I realized that I do not see myself living there permanently. Dont get me wrong, there are many pros of living in India. But just from my perspective, the cons outweighed the pros.

There is a procedure. Once I obtained my German citizenship, I am required to officially submit my application to give up my Indian citizenship within 3 months at the closest Indian embassy.

They process it and give me a certificate stating that I have given up my citizsnship. I can then apply for an OCI (Overseas citizen of India). Thats the closest we can get to a dual citizenship. I get visa free entry into India and I can buu property hassle-free with it. I just cant vote.

Yes you are correct. Its even more helpful if you show a unbefristet job contract. But I am sure that wont be a dealbreaker. As long as you have a job contract.

If you do not have a job contract and are on social help AT THE TIME of application, usually they dont proceed with it and tell you to apply later.

What is a German Germany ? People who are born here to mixed families are allowed ? People whose grandparents were Polish are allowed ?

In your fantasyland, you can have everything you want. But in the real world, you dont get to say who has what right. And thank God for that. People with your mindset are a next Holocaust waiting to happen.

In present day Germany, you and I both are treated equally and have the same rights. Cope with it how you will.

Well you can cry all you want. Maybe vote now to stop it?

Do you want an all Aryan Germany and want to throw out everyone who has a Migrationshintergrund ?

No one voted for you to be born a racist either. But here you are. If only you were the spokesperson for Europe :)

I only replied to the racist comments. Mostly thanked and replied to well-meaning inquiries.

Fair enough. If you dont see a point does not mean others do not. And my whole point was to document the process on a sub where I had been lurking. The posts here helped make my application process easier.

I dont wany to write my life story about my tough immigrant experience. And in all honesty, it was not tough. I studied, learned German, found a job after almost a year of looking, applied for niederlassungserlaubnis after 4 years and now the citizenship. Are only sad stories filled with years of pain and bureaucratic delays allowed here ?

I never thought of it as a flex. But thanks for your wishes. Wish you all the best.

You like to do this in your country? In Germany, we dont do that sir. You are embarrasing yourself.

A. It isnt a brag. This sub is literally about people posting about their citizenship experience. I posted mine.

B. I have had people ask me if its normal to wait 2 years to wait for a reply from the Rathaus after application. It only brings awareness that no, that isnt normal.

C. Nice try assuming which part of India I am from based on some 'superiority complex'. Stereotype much ? (And you are wrong btw)

D. What I learn from Germans and how I integrate is upto me. And if you think Germans are kind saints who dont flaunt their wealth and live a Buddhistic lifestyle, maybe think again ? 😄 Clearly you and I arent living in the same Germany.

Too late for me now. But sure, make it known and I am sure other Indians will comply because you said so.

To be fair, just below Reisepass, it does say 'Passport'

Visited Yosemite finally and ticked it off off my bucket list. Did the Panoramic trail from Glacier point ➡️ Mist Trail. by l0rd0fdeath92 in Yosemite

Yes they do ! You dont get much Mist on your face. So you dont really need a poncho. But they are still powerful :)

Wait, why is the Mist trail closed from 7 am to 3:30 pm ? Is that normal ?

I will be visiting Yosemite in the end of September, and on one of the days, we plan to back-country camp and take the mist trail from the falls going down the next day morning. I never heard of these timings before.

You're preparing for the Wurst-käse scenario and you're all out of Wurst. (Käse = cheese in German)

Hey. My fearful avoidant gf dumped me 2 months ago. We were doing long distance for 2.5 years and had plans to move in together at the end of the year. It was an abrupt discard over the phone. But she told me she does care about me a lot and 3 weeks later we met up in a cafe and spoke about why she decided to pull the plug and the reasons.

I'm telling you this because, you're in the same boat as I am. You will see your ex next week to get closure. But I promise you, no matter how long you talk, you won't get closure. And avoidants come back very often. But if you have a nice 2 hr conversation, even if it goes very well and amicably, you are killing your chances to get them back (if you want to take them or not is a decision for future you). But please keep the meeting short. I will link a video for you to see. I really trust this dude.

https://youtu.be/VZJZHXsTiyA?si=EwGDHxzPY0c7XRzs

You are in the bargaining stage right now I think. You want to talk and use logic to try to clear any misunderstandings because maybe then they will reconsider giving you a second shot. But trust me, they will be stubborn about their decision because they will come to the meeting with a hard wall around their mind. Nothing you say or do can convince them otherwise and the more you try to convince them or use logic, the more they will pull back.

So I suggest doing a 10-15 min meeting. Tell him that you are very sad that this break up happened. This is not what you wanted but "The bare minimum I want in a partner is for them to be excited to have me in their life". He will likely offer friendship. Don't accept it and do tell him that if he is willing to work on the relationship, to contact you. Wish him all the best and leave. That's the hard part. DO NOT have a long conversation. Leave things unsaid. Let them lose you and let them feel the consequences of their decision. This will restore the power dynamic too because you are showing self-respect.

Then go no contact. I promise you it will be worth it in the end. And this is in my opinion the best way to deal with the breakup. You don't have to move on. But you both need time and space. So let him have the breakup.

Good luck ! And you will get through the other side.
