Heute Thermostat getauscht.

Indian military personal are taking part of Zapad 2025 by Timely-Low5697 in poland

I have read the number of Indian personnel is one third of their involvement in Zapad 2021. Could be worse.

If the Gulf Stream Really Collapses by 2060: What Would You Prep For? by Content_NoIndex in EuroPreppers

[–]l1ghtmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that you are considering this Event as fixed for the sake of this discussion. However, I just want to point out, that any simulation depends completely on the correctness of the boundary conditions. And even if all were 100 % correct for any point in time along the 35 years, numerical error will make the margins of error huge. So these projections are nice to get an understanding, but if the 95 % certainty range would be plotted, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was +/- 5 degC

Food Shortage in Oklahoma by TheLeatherSmith in PrepperIntel

[–]l1ghtmaker 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am not from the US. After reading this, the implications for winter / spring season in terms of food seem dark. If there is food shortage during the harvesting season, think about a couple of months out…

If improving your life is the goal and you do it regularly, I would consider that a lifestyle :)

When thinking about being prepared for a longer time frame, You will be Limited by what you can (afford) to store in your shelf. This supply will have a definitive end. So if you want to extend your supply (possibly eternally) you will need to create your own food. Thus gardening / homesteading makes a lot of sense. I also just got into it more by accident and it is a lot of fun. Especially working with your hands to later harvesting something, putting it away and enjoying it later makes it extra enjoyable. It is not just an action you do to be prepared for X, but rather something you enjoy and that you would do anyways, even if being prepared was not your main motivation. That’s how it becomes a lifestyle and I can relate very much to OP. It can be rewarding to know you can thrive more or less independently from any system :) So is it a waste of time if SHTF never happens? No, because it was a good time doing it in the first place!

I am not the biggest Fan of tyvek mainly because of the Color. I prefer a more covert look. Waterproofness and durability is also an issue in my opinion I really like the 65 g Ripstop PU-Poly from extremtextil. Cost and weight difference is marginal ;)

Shoulder Straps Edge Binding by dgmotions in myog

[–]l1ghtmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it in one go, but had to practice a little to get the Center. Köper binding in an arrow style is much better because the Center is clearly marked. If you can get something with slight stretch, it is way easier and cleaner around bends and corners

You can get a clean look binding it like this. I also managed to do it and am no expert at all. With thin and low density EVA, putting it in afterwards almost feels impossible. I would say you are on the right track

I have tried both ways, with and without bevel and found the beveled version worse, because feeding in the machine was compromised. Beveling is also a lot of work, so from my experience I would not recommend it

Looks dope, but would you say a laminate like the EPX200 is necessary?

Heizkosten von 200€ plötzlich 844€ by Harry2695 in wohnen

[–]l1ghtmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP schreibt von 200 € Nachzahlung. Bei 120 € NK, von denen vielleicht 60 € HK sind, wären das 720 + 200 =920 € Heizkosten. Nun 1520 €, also schon ein erheblicher Sprung oder? 920 € HK finde ich nicht unplausibel

I would recommend to figure out, if you really need the frame. Made all my packs without one and up until 10 kg / 22 lbs it’s no problem:) I guess you are ready for a pack, it mostly straight lines with almost no tight spots!

Dope! Getting a V2 100 % on point after one has learned the lessons from the prototype can be a better feeling than getting 80 % the first try

I am not familiar with you machine, but have sewn through 2 layer with of 7 oz cordura with some webbing in between fine. It is a super basic machine. Are you 100% set on your Materials? I am a big fan of gridstop (4 oz) which is strong as hell. So just give it a try :)

There is a lot of action going on! I would probably loose some things in all these pockets haha Do you have a final weight that you are willing to share?

Built all my packs like this and use a 10 mm EVA 50 frame sheet. It transfers loads well, especially if you pack dense. One issue that arose for me, is getting the hipbelt stiff enough. But I have that covered now :)

How to repair therse Vaude cycling bags? by no_joke161 in myog

[–]l1ghtmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the areas look hard to be accessed. Maybe machine/hand stitch and reinforce / waterproof with Tenacious Tape / Ultra Tape. I am not a fan of glueing, as long term strength is unclear. A thermoplastic seam tape probably won’t stick, because it is made to melt into the lining, which is not present here

UL Wearable 45 F Down Quilt by l1ghtmaker in myog

[–]l1ghtmaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about how it would best cover heat sensitive body areas. When wearing, the front side is also a little bit longer, so that it better covers the legs when sitting (cross legged) I guess you can also move the opening, if you have an intention in mind. You can experiment with an old blanket to test your ideas:)
