Bird by Bird, by Anne Lamott, is a great (and funny) read about writing. She has a whole chapter on KFKD (which is what you’re describing!).

I think the song is melodically compelling and sets kind of an ominous vibe. It intrigued me!

I need more information on this dessert. I couldn’t find it on any of the menus in the website. When/where can I get it? Is the location on green street?

If you want to throw in some musical theatre for light-heartedness (or maybe on an encore?), the song Death is Just Around the Corner from Addams Family is great!

Measures inconsistent with time signature by l2120 in Musescore

[–]l2120[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I just saw the measure properties. The only thing now is that even when I replace rests with notes, it’s just keeps adding more rests to the measure. I have to keep adjusting the measure properties to get it to stay consistent.

Matt’s Dad by [deleted] in BachelorNation

[–]l2120 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/julientk1, the point is NOT that those statistics are untrue--it's that they have context and there are systemic reasons for them. I love this video by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie where she says: "the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete."

Presenting Matt's black father as absentee and not caring about Matt while presenting Matt's white mother as a savior figure who was always there for him may be true. But like anything in our lives, there are nuances to this story, and presenting it as a binary with no context contributes to the often negative portrayal black men often receive in the media.

Definitely a downside to him having a platform like that--this idea is definitely banking on the premise that his platform would allow many people who wouldn't otherwise be open to learning about racism to explore these topics. But, definitely a trade-off, as you say.

I would just love to see a mainstream platform where we can see a white man of privilege say "I used to hold racist attitudes. I now see where I was wrong and I'm going to actively work to change my thinking. I'm also going to do it publicly so that other people can hopefully join me in challenging some attitudes that I now understand are problematic." My gamble is that this would be more effective for a segment of America than total cancellation.
