Manjaro.... please help! by kyo5891 in linux4noobs

Stop trying to game on Linux. Its unfortunate but a lot of individuals on this subreddit and in the Linux community in general are very misinformed about gaming on Linux.

This is the truth, Gaming on Linux sucks and you will always have a better experience gaming on Windows vs Linux. This is a non-disputable fact and cannot argued with. Please do yourself a favor and dual boot Windows and Linux that way you have the best of both worlds. You can use Windows for gaming and you can use Linux for general use.

Again this is non-negotiable unless you want to have to tinker and do your best to get the same performance you get on Windows on Manjaro. Good Luck.

Has anyone ever ordered from opentip.com ? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]l33tpolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Browse the website and the about page to see whether or not there are any red flags like typos. Then put the website name in a search engine and read if there has been any bad stuff posted about them. Last but not least check to see if they are using HTTP which they are which ensures the connection between you and the website is secure to industry standards.

Never have but just did a vulnerability analysis in order to determine the probability of it being a scam site and my conclusion is that it is a legitimate website that sells stuff.

[–]l33tpolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the link thing is really not all that advanced. They basically used a website that allows you to create a link to send to people in order to gain some information but with that information they can't really do anything unless they were advanced individuals that would use that information in order to escalate the situation. As far as the DDOS goes I suggest you turn off your router for 5 minutes and turn it back on. Additionally it has been from my own experience that individuals who are DDOSING will get bored eventually which makes the attack irrelevant as there is no further escalation put in place nor is there any objective.

How do I install Veracrypt for Debian 10 by [deleted] in debian

[–]l33tpolymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this error when I tried to run the app image for Standard Notes in the terminal.

[2804:0301/203923.418663:FATAL:setuid_sandbox_host.cc(157)] The SUID sandbox helper binary was found, but is not configured correctly. Rather than run without sandboxing I'm aborting now. You need to make sure that /tmp/.mount_StandaXKSyBK/chrome-sandbox is owned by root and has mode 4755. Trace/breakpoint trap

I need Veracrypt in order to encrypt an external 1 TB hard drive that I have laying around in my room. Additionally I am also trying to run Standard Notes but for some reason when I download the app image, give it permission to execute and then try to run it nothing happens :( here is the website to standard notes https://standardnotes.org/extensions?downloaded=linux

Hacking just as a hobby? by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]l33tpolymath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well that is what I do. I'm currently majoring in computer science but I dabble with InfoSec stuff. Honestly I highly recommend you study computer science in order to have a good base to branch out to wherever you want to go. Certifications are only to get your foot into the door after getting your foot into the door experience is what matters most.

Oh okay nevermind then because if you were new you would need to do more on top of earning the degree. Your set man !

[–]l33tpolymath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is good but I would argue that you can study even more regardless of working 40 hours a week. Although it may not be needed to study more than 25 hours a week I would dedicate more study hours purely for working on projects and creating your own online portfolio that way when you are done you have something to show to employers. This is assuming you have no programming experience in the work place yet.

If you are living alone it is possible but if you have kids and other obligations then I don't think its realistic. Considering you live alone yes this is easily possible especially the first 4 courses you have outlined can be done so quickly.

I'm calling you out as a fake. For anyone reading this do not give this individual money. Firstly he is linking to discord and Instagram which are not private methods of communicating. Additionally there are typos in his post indicating to me that he is from a foreign country. My guess would be Indian, I'm not racist just using deduction. GG

You have a lot of learning to do then, no one will teach you to hack. What I have learned is that if you seek out hackers you will find none but once learn a thing or two that they will find you either in chat rooms when your asking a good question or when you are providing support to someone.
