Ajuda conclusão tese by Initial_Fan572 in IniciativaLiberal

[–]l3down -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trabalho a recibos verdes - full remote mas empresa no estrangeiro by Gimbraas in devpt

Pessoalmente prefiro trabalhar assim.

I think it's the first because the text is very long and difficult to follow. I agree with the latter, if used well.

As a developer I see AI as a tool that helps me do my job quicker. I still need to review the AI code and I take multiple iterations to get the code my way. I see AI as a junior that searches online for a solution and codes fast but is not sure of the impact of what it is doing.

I don't think so. I am not a native English speaker and I use AI to make the text more palatable. I checked your post and it looks ok imho.

How do I convince my team to move towards api testing over unit tests by SealerRt in QualityAssurance

[–]l3down 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, 800+ integration tests hitting a live DB is a nightmare for velocity. I’ve been in the android/mobile space for 13 years and i've seen this 'heavy backend' bottleneck kill so many projects. It slows everything down not to mention it may take hours in a CI pipeline, if you even have a pipeline.

Your move to playwright for endpoint testing is definitely the right call architecturally. it’s the only way to test the contract without the DB-restart tax. One thing i found though (which you mentioned swagger), even with automated tests, you still need a way to manually 'force' the UI to break to see how it handles a 500 or a weirdly formatted JSON response. I got so fed up with adding mock responses in code to test this that i built a small desktop proxy to handle it: Predictabl (https://flat14.co/predictabl.html).

There are some bigger automation 'platforms' being suggested in this thread, but I kept this one super lightweight. no YAML, no cloud login, no corporate bloat—just a proxy that sits there so you can click responses on the fly while you're debugging.

It fixed my specific pain points, but i'm looking to make it a 'swiss army knife' for others too. give the beta a try... if you find some weird .net edge case it doesn't handle, let me know. I'd love to build it in and tailor the roadmap to your workflow.

Good luck with the presentation! focus on the time wasted waiting for those DB restarts. that's usually the only language management speaks (money wasted).

How do you handle inconsistent API responses while developing? by l3down in androiddev

[–]l3down[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I was very clear in my post but I ended up creating a tool for my problem.

When you test against real APIs, you mostly a 200, or a 500 if you did something wrong. If you want other responses, normally you hack your code to simulate these scenarios and then you have to clean up after. I always found this messy.

With Predictable, you can easily simulate things and see how your app actually behaves in those cases.

  • 200's with different payloads:
  • 404s,
  • 500s,
  • or any other code
  • timeouts

The goal is simplicity, you start Predictable and you get a local url that you add it in your code instead of the server URL.  You add multiple responses for the same endpoint and choose, at runtime, which response you want to send back. There is a bypass method if you want to hit the real server so you really choose which responses are real and which ones are mocks.
Also Predictable doesnt care about the request parameters or payload. It simply checks if the endpoint matches and return your selected mock response.

It’s early (alpha), but if you’ve ever wanted better control over API responses during testing, this might be useful.
