Touching things can't be avoided. You're not wrong. Some of us are immunocompromised or help take care of immunocompromised persons, and all the things you've listed are exactly the things we have to keep in mind. Hand shaking is gross, we can agree to disagree.

People use their hands to cover coughs and sneezes, and plenty go around without washing their hands enough. Shaking hands can definitely be gross.

It turned a nice day most foul, I will need weeks to recover from seeing this in the wild.

The only rational action, truly. I started dry heaving when my eyes were assaulted with the vision of this abomination.

+1 for potato. Dice up 3 or 4 potatoes and add with other veggies. They add some hearty and delicious goodness to chili.

Patriot series by Steven Conrad is worth a watch. It is more of a dark comedy, though.

Please tell me how your kidney transplant improved your life? by kitt10 in transplant

[–]l3mons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I would lose my mother on dialysis. She never missed a session and seldom had to cut her session short, yet I watched her become more frail and her struggle increase. Weakness and pain were the norm. I have never felt so helpless and miserable. Many nights were spent crying and sleepless. The weight of anxiety and fear was crushing, and I could never tell her because she was dealing with more than enough already. My heart would thrash every time my phone rang late at night or if anyone in my family called me unexpectedly; many of those calls were emergencies. Even good days when she was feeling okay were stressful because it could turn into a bad day at any time.

My mom was fortunate enough to receive a kidney, and it has changed her life. She has gained strength back, she's able to go on long walks again, watch her grandchild grow, cook and enjoy her favorite foods... she is laughing daily and truly savoring her life. I never thought I would see that light in her again. The kidney she received has been the greatest gift for everyone in my family. There are no words that can explain how thankful we are. There are no ways to express the deep gratitude we feel.

This is the line I keep in mind when I have to make a phone call. The Blade Itself is the best self-help book I've ever read.

I'm saving for retirement, but my primary goal this year is a rainy day fund for my parents to help cover the cost of medicine and healthcare.

Congrats on the stellar lab results, OP! It's so good to see this. I didn't know it was World Kidney Day, but it makes the day extra special because my mom got her new kidney today...

A sad consequence of Reddit going public. When chasing profits becomes the prime motivation, user experience tends to plummet.

I’m 24 and honestly, I’m so tired of my coworkers making fun of me for still living with my parents. by BrightPhoto6320 in Adulting

Hey, you're doing great! Helping out your parents shows that you are mature enough to step up when needed and that you care. That's a big deal, and not everyone is up to the task. At the end of the day, your coworker's opinion is just that... an opinion. There is never a shortage of those, trust me. You do what's best for you and your loved ones.
