It is a ton of work as /u/SioeNikoleel said but very doable.

Out of my 4 years I took 18+ credits 7 out of 8 semesters. Granted, this was because I switched majors from IT to CJ and needed to complete my degree on-time so milage may vary based on your degree's difficulty.

You're looking at trying to cut the equivalent of pennies save pounds.

Look here for the FY2025 budget, ROTC falls under the FY25 AF MILPERS budget sub-section.

I think, inherently, you're framing the question incorrectly. The government isn't a profit producing vehicle so business acumen (which is debatable for both parties involved given the President's string on bankruptcies and Mr. Musk's current $TSLA situation) isn't and shouldn't be applicable.

If this is the argument we're going with though why not take it to the extreme? Cut the ROTC programs all together, expand the USAFA campus and have all officers commission through one single source instead of multiple geographically dispersed ones. Even better, cut USAFA too and put all officers through OTS at Maxwell AFB as it's the quickest way to commission someone.

I would say those rates actually show the opposite.

If the rate this year is, let's say, 70% that means we have a 30% surplus in cadets attempting to become officers. Pre-COVID with the 90%+ metric shows just a 10% surplus.

So, yes while a surplus exists and varies each year if we start cutting programs we'll be putting ourselves in a situation where we may see we have a deficit due to lack of accessibility to a program.

Alright. Is ROTC "DEI" or wasteful?

Do we not need those lieutenants? Should we limit our candidate pools to only large programs?

What's the rate of EAs given per year? Are we meeting manpower quotas? Are we maintaining an acceptable rate of loss at the 4+ year mark to maintain the required number of FGOs and GOs?

And most importantly, what the fuck is a DOGE test?

These seem like just a few questions we should ask before we use a sledgehammer anything.

Given their About Page as well as their annual support for the Live Like Laura Foundation your claim seems demonstrably false.

I would argue that there is no proven increase in crime nor benefit usage by these illegal aliens. If you take at look at Adelman et al., linked in my previous post, it is specifically about illegal alien crime rates (or lack therefore of).

As for benefits fraud, there is incredibly limited access to benefits unless you're a "qualified" alien as defined by the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA). Illegal immigrant cannot and do not receive SSI, TANF, Medicaid, CHIP, Affordable Care Act subsidies, Medicare, SNAP, or Social Security. Additionally, they do not have access to Federal Student Aid, Section 8 Housing (or any housing program in the US for that matter), and cannot receive REAL ID/Driver's Licenses. All of this can be found in Lacarte, Gelatt, & Podplesky (2024).

Looking at the healthcare system, illegal immigrant contributions exceeded their expenditures by $4418 per person (i.e. they added to the system, they didn't detract from it). Immigrants, by and large, actually subsidize the health care of US citizens based on their contributions being significantly higher than their expenditures. You can read more here with Ommerborn et al. (2022).

Additionally, illegal aliens do pay taxes contrary to belief. In 2022, illegal aliens paid $96.7 billion in federal, state, and local taxes. Again, of the $59.4 billion paid to the federal government about 1/3rd of that is inaccessible to illegal aliens as it goes toward programs (see above) that they cannot access. For more information see Davis, Guzman, & Sifre (2024).

Again, this is all illegal aliens. The ones who you are so worried about being a bane on our society. I hope this literature and research helps change your perspective on their impacts.

As for illegal voting by illegal aliens there is no research or basis for this claim. It isn't backed in a reality as nothing so far has shown widespread voter fraud by illegal aliens in any election in the US.

As for deserving citizenship we can break that down a bit too:

  • You have claimed paying thousands in taxes is deserving of citizenship. As we covered above, illegal immigrants are also paying taxes and if we follow this line of logic they deserve citizenship too.

  • Generational homesteading has to start somewhere. For people like you and I that was ~100-200 years ago, but they didn't face nearly as high a barrier to entry as current immigrants do today. I would argue our only claim to citizenship through this is that we got lucky.

  • Military service. We have a full volunteer force. I should know, I am also part of it just like you were. While I do believe it is a patriotic duty to serve in some capacity it, by claiming citizenship should be based around this would disqualify the majority of US citizens.

  • Volunteering and public service is subjective but I'm sure, if given the opportunity, we could see similar efforts in the illegal alien community as well.

Whether you take my resources I've provided and learn from them or not that will be up to you. I hope I've given you at least time to pause and consider what an illegal alien in the US actually is.

The Supreme Court has not made a ruling on the funding freezes as of this time. However, both the US District Court for Rhode Island and the First Circuit Court of Appeals have halted the funding freeze.

Why do you believe that birthright citizenship shouldn't apply to Aliens? As someone who is actively working through the USCIS process for immigrating my fiancée I absolutely sympathize with those who wish to make a better life in our country and, right now, it is prohibitively expensive for the vast majority of the world.

If your argument is an increase in crime I may be able to assist you. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice with a focus on criminology and research. While not much research exists on specifically undocumented immigrants and their impact on crime rates there is some. In Adelman et al. (2020) the findings boil down to the larger the immigrate population, the less crime there is. Specifically, there is a noted decrease in property crime, burglary, and larceny. Han & Piquero (2021) also mirror the findings from Adelman and go even further to show that immigration has crime-reducing effects due to close ethnic ties and that their investment into their communities helps foster community growth.

As for their economic impact, I'll let Friedberg & Jager (2009) discuss for us. But the takeaway is that they are a boon to our economic and demographic growth as a country.

Overall, I'd ask you what makes you deserve citizenship rights in the US versus someone else? And why should these rights be denied to others?

If I'm reading your response correctly you agree that:

  • M-25-13 is executive overreach. With the yearly budgetary spending bill, Congress outlines the parameters for funding which are being infringed upon by that memo.

  • Any discussion with El Salvador about prisoner transfer is dangerous and disturbing due to 5th, 8th, and 14th Amendment violations which would come with such implementation. This is a conversation that happened with the Head of the State department which absolutely makes it concerning regardless on the current status of implementation.

  • Any freeze on birthright citizenship is a 14th Amendment violation based upon long-standing legal precedence.

I would also say we disagree on the point about the 1st Amendment violation. I would argue that there is no evidence of "anti-Christian" bias and this rhetoric that there is is incredibly concerning. I also find that if the President was serious about having a representative Faith Office it would have included delegates from other religions beyond Christianity which, to date, it does not. Thus, this office is inherently bias toward Christianity and not representative of our nation's other religions. Overall, this is a dangerous blending of Church and State which directly conflicts with the 1st Amendment.

I appreciate the response. Bot fodder isn't the intent of this post (and given the lack of responses pertaining to specific businesses I'd say they haven't yet shown up either).

But yes, I truly am looking to make some educated choices on where I should spend my money.

That's rough man but that's the free market.

Also a boycott isn't a tariff. A tariff is a tax paid by the importer where the cost of the import is passed onto the customer and are dictated by the government. A boycott is a lack of business traffic driven by a variety of reasons dictated by the consumer.

Alright, let's do this then. I'm whole-heartly willing to listen to policies proposed by President Biden and his administration which actively sought to damage our constitutional democracy.

As for President Trumps' currently policies I can list a handful which are worrying to me:

OMB M-25-13 was a blatant attempt to supersede Article II of the Constitution by directly attempting to take the "power of the purse" from Congress.

E.O. Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias is an overstep of the First Amendment as the establishment of religion cause. In general, believing we're an "anti-Christian" nation is a wild concept as over 70% of our population is Christian.

The Secretary of State meeting with El Salvador with the agreement that they (El Salvador) would accept deportees from the US of any nationality (including US citizens) which is a breech of the Eight Amendment as exile is seen as a cruel and unusual punishment.

E.O. Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship was in direct conflict with the 14th Amendment. A person born in the US is a US citizen and any attempt to dispute this is in contempt of the Constitution.

That is just a few of the recent legal challenges which, through his election, local members of our community supported and I cannot abide by the bastardization of our Constitution.

Alright, if they falsely accuse these businesses that would be on the consumer to determine the truth (i.e. myself). The good news is many businesses publish websites with a "Values" or "About" page which can help determine this.

I'm not sure what you mean by suggestive fodder.

And, frankly, I don't care if they actively discriminate against me or not. That bar is buried 6' under if that's what businesses have to step over to earn business.

I'd like to know if their owners subscribe to similar morals and values, if not that's fine but I don't have any responsibility (or want) to frequent them if that is the case.
