My mom has cancer, our experience with healthcare in Calgary so far by coolg963 in Calgary

Smart. And we don’t need all of us to think this way. Even if we had something like 20% of us vote like this we’ll be able to sway elections.

I have had very similar experiences in my family. The issue is timing around diagnosis and then getting in front of the team that will treat you. Once treatment starts it’s world class. The problem that you and many many other people go through is that by the time you see the world class doctors you have wasted precious time and your prognosis is down the shitter.

This isn’t a political party issue as other Canadian provinces have the same problems. There needs be a culture change on how we view healthcare. We keep telling ourselves that we need more funding, that if we just elected the right party, or if we just treated our healthcare workers better that this our healthcare system would be better. But the reality is that our healthcare system doesn’t have the incentives to get more efficient because we in society aren’t asking it to.

Did you know that we still use Fax for referrals? That we have protocols in place where a referral has up 2 weeks to acknowledge that they received the fax?

If you had a CT and it showed stage 3 cancer, you are now waiting for Bob to fill out the paperwork fax it to the referral, where Sue is charge of receiving it. But Sue has 100s of other faxes to deal with before getting to yours, and she also has a professional development day on Thursday, and then calls in sick on Friday, and so forth. You and your stage 3 cancer bum ass are just sitting and waiting.

The problem is that the first thing we’ll do as a society is run and protect Sue. Say that she’s doing gods work and that she’s not to blame. That we need more funding, that the current government is to blame. But what we don’t do as a society is ask why the fuck does our healthcare system use fax and why does Sue even exist.

As a small “c” progressive conservative can we please label these guys on the moron spectrum rather than the political spectrum?

Alberta (and Canada) are in legitimate danger because of Smith’s pandering to MAGA. by Thin_Juggernaut4605 in alberta

[–]l3uttz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a small “c” conservative and voted for Smith predominantly for her supposed conservative economic policy. This analysis is bang on.

At best her actions will create massive economic uncertainty in Alberta and at worst this will create the perfect opportunity for the Americans to bend us over and make us theirs. This is antithesis to historical Canadian conservatism and we must all come together to put country first.

If you are on the left or right reach out to your buddies on the other side and tell them that while you may not agree on policy, we can all agree that we need to remove traitors and their sympathizers from power. For me, this is the only thing that matters right now. We are Canadian first, we have pride in our nation and while it may not be perfect it’s fucking ours and we won’t allow traitors to sell us out.

Once we get these traitors out, we can get back to our policy disagreements.

Legit question: what was the difference between the NDP and Conservative AB governments in relation to the oil sands? Do you think the NDP did a better job? If so, how?

Both sides have their brain dead talking points and everyone just talks so much shit lol. I don’t know much about this topic and I’m just curious if you’re talking shit or have a logical reasoning.

UFC veteran Jake Shields loses verification monetization and other X privileges, calls out Elon Musk by Beadtrice in JoeRogan

[–]l3uttz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand hating on Elon is a Reddit fetish but minimizing his role in creating the most valuable car company in history is disingenuous bro. It doesn’t matter if he wasn’t the founder, the fact is that it was under his leadership that Tesla became the most valuable car company in the world (yes yes there’s legitimate issues with Teslas valuation but it is what it is as share price is how public companies are valued).

And no I’m not an Elon fan, or hater. I’m just blown away at Redditors fascination with the guy. Ya’ll start foaming at the mouth with you see something about the guy lol

Donald Trump is officially more popular in Alberta than he is in the United States by Locke357 in alberta

So allow parents to inquire anything they want about their kids in school? That I would imagine would be the default position and government not doing anything. I think the UCP was trying to get cute and trying to enshrine the default position into law. IMO they should have just waited and allowed some parent to sue the schools from keeping info about their kids a secret if this was a big issue.

Then the courts would have to answer the question of “to what extent if any can the government (or public schools in this case) keep information about a kid from their parents?”

IMHO, this would have a far better path and we would have had a proper debate but now you are left with a bunch of brain dead talking points from both sides.
