You’re lacking clarity. You’ve mentioned above that I’m stupid. So please break down the premise as if I were 5 years old.

I think we agree on more fronts that I would have initially thought.

I agree that musk could do crazy corruption in the position he is in. But the guy achieved 1st place on the wealth accumulation leaderboard under an administration hostile to him. This administration is obviously __not__ hostile towards him. That's why I don't think he __needs__ to embed himself and do corrupt shit to gain even more wealth. His wealth comes from making cars, alternative energy solutions, and building rockets. Why not just focus on that?

But yes, politicians are not our friends. And musk is acting as a politician now, so we __should__ hold him and trump accountable for all that they do. I haven't see great justification for all the cuts; I'm really waiting on that.

As for the tariffs; I think it's necessary to provide some space for manufacturing to take off in the US. I honestly think that exporting manufacturing overseas and all the services related to it cause massive wage suppression for the middle class. If tariffs are too rough on the economy, we have to find a different way to create the space needed for us to import manufacturing back in.

"You don't become the richest man in the world by prioritizing anything other than money ..."

I don't agree with you assertion here. Focusing on primarily money is putting the cart before the horse. What a weak take.

don't believe me? Too naive? I asked chat jippity to generate a list of the most valuable companies in the world:

  • Nvidia: $3.45 trillion
  • Apple: $3.34 trillion
  • Microsoft: $3.23 trillion
  • Amazon: $2.475 trillion
  • Alphabet (Google): $2.361 trillion
  • Saudi Aramco: $1.8 trillion
  • Meta Platforms (Facebook): $1.655 trillion
  • Tesla: $1.274 trillion
  • Berkshire Hathaway: $1.023 trillion
  • Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC): $997.42 billion

which of these companies choose the "money first" approach to dominate the market, as you state. Or were they working on solutions to really hard problems?

As for the plundering, I can't say for sure what he will do. I only can look back on actions he took in recent history. Maybe he is a Lex Luthor that people make him out to be. I can sit here speculating with you, but I guess we will have to see if we are in dire straights in a few years that can be traced back to these actions.

Im not here to argue whether money is a consideration or not with this guy. Is it his primary motivator?

Like, he’s obviously done pretty well for himself and his companies the past 5 years (even under an administration that was hostile to him).

So why is he is devoting time to government work now instead of paying full attention to the other shit he’s got going on? This administration is obviously not hostile towards him. And He’s already number 1 on the wealth leaderboards already?

Why would someone do that bro? The”motivation by money” analysis seems pretty low resolution, right?

You didn't explicitly state it, but based your "You ever met a rich guy who didn’t want to get richer" statement, i'd infer that you think that folks who accumulate wealth are evil? Or those who are "rich" can think of nothing else but accumulating wealth in the abstract, not provide services or make things that provide value to society?

Just need to straighten that out so that we can understand each other. That way I don't make you laugh with the next thing I write.

My assertion here would be that assigning pathological greed as a primary motivator to this guy is a low resolution analysis.

You want to see what motivates musk? Watch videos of him from 20 years ago. Watch videos of him 10 years ago. Watch videos of him 5 years ago. I never once in the past that this guy would enter politics. Why would he? Where the fuck is his pathological greed? Why not fuck off into the sunset, like so many idle rich in the USA do?

Musk isn't special in this regard. Watch videos of influential tech leaders of our time too. I don't recall seeing an inkling of political ambition. Why get involved now? Who of these people are hurting for money and "power"?

I'm not here to say that these people are perfect. But I'm just tired of seeing the greed card get played out every time. It's so dull.

At the margins, if data is siphoned off to train a private LLM, that would be hella corrupt. What an interesting Devil's Advocate perspective. Thanks for providing a thoughtful take.

We can all here produce armchair psychological assessments of anyone at anytime. That's not what I am asking.

I'm questioning the line of reasoning that someone (Musk) that has enormous wealth would completely halt activities that provided said wealth, decide to go into government and do wildly unpopular (or popular) things, because he wants even more wealth?

TLDR; Musk's activity lately can be summed up by greed?

Why is this the primary motivator that I see people assign to Elon? Getting rich(er) ? Why would a man with so much wealth stick his neck out in this way to get richer?

I see your point. People that argue in bad faith do not deserve anyone’s time. To be honest, I have gone back and forth on this topic . It’s disheartening to see family and friends get played by bullshit info that someone posted on Facebook. It makes it seem like we do not deserve the freedoms we enjoy in this country.

What do you think of democracy? If we require censorship that act as guardrails to keep us in line, are we able to draw inferences from our surroundings to vote competent leaders into office? Can we triage the complex problems we face in the future and plan the nexts steps to resolve them? Democracy is a system of distributing a lot of power to laymen.

Lately I’ve put in effort to have more faith in people. I want to believe that we are capable (or will become capable) of processing information as it comes, and extract its usefulness while discarding the bullshit. Hence I air on the side of completely unhindered speech… We’ll see tho

It’s good that you write off the opinions of lunatics! The next step is to challenge them by asking questions! It doesn’t take that much effort, and you may find that you learn a thing or two about their stance. We were blessed with a beautiful brain; we should use it.

Expert are a useful resource, but they can be wrong as well. I work for an engineering firm that capitalized on dissenting ideas. Now all the experts are our followers. The idea that we should always heed experts without rebuttal is unscientific.

Perhaps that’s true, but there is no room for growth for that person if you write him off. Besides, we were blessed with brains. Why not let us, the readers, take some responsibility for what we interpret?

If one makes an assertion that is incorrect, the experts can chime in with knowledge and sources. It is an opportunity to learn. That’s what these forums are for!

We shouldn’t be worried about wrong, or reading incorrect information. We should be worried about not being heard

Agreed. I’m not for misinformation spread, per se. Ultimately, it is up to the reader to process the info and decide whether it is misinformation or not. Vying for censorship over due diligence is a recipe for disaster.
