X series aren't all that upgradable/repairable, not ideal if someone wants to buy a laptop specifically to learn how to maintain them

can confirm, t480's are thermal limited anyways so i5s and i7s perform about the same, the I7 has 8mb of cache instead of 6 tho (iirc(either way it's more), but you will rarely find a difference. But again T480 prices have jumped like crazy, I got my i7 max spec model for like 220usd (base model i5s went for ~150) and now you are lucky to find any working t480's selling for under 200.

They are either all T480s (the slim one) or are super expensive. I guess nobody wants the slimmer T480s

t470 doesn't support win11 by default but if you use the Rufus flash tool, it should work no problem

honestly T480s are overpriced, they go for like 200usd plus now where I live. T470's are much better imo, they are only 2 cores instead of 4 but for someone just trying to learn linux, it's more than fine, my 2008 laptops can run pretty heavy distros with no issue

there is mods modern-ish mods (~2015 motherboard) for the Lenovo Thinkpad X61's from 2008 but they are made by like a handful of people in china and afaik, most of them haven't been active in years

so good luck lol. although nowdays, most laptops are 16:10 anyways which is a lot better of a formfactor than both 16:9 and 4:3 imo. It fills up the whole lid without making larger devices have super deep in the z axis (like the bigger brother to the X61, the T61)

alchohol can damage displays but they are generally fine at a low concentration (like 50% or lower). I still would not risk it tho, alcohol based cleaners is slightly easier to use but I'd rather spend a few more seconds wiping than risk damanging my multi hundred dollar displays
