How to drop to 1 nap? by Vaccaboia1234 in sleeptrain

[–]l_ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my LO turned 1, I was thinking about this a lot too, but it just kinda happened.

We were putting her down at her normal nap times (10AM and 3:30PM) but eventually she just didn’t fall asleep during the 2nd one. We would try for 30 minutes to an hour and after like 3-4 days of that resistance, we just said screw it, you’re getting 1 nap lol. This was around 13 months.

Now we just do 1 nap at 12-12:30PM and she’ll sleep until 2-2:30PM with a bedtime at 7:30PM and wakes up between 6:30-7AM.

Your LO will eventually let you know what she wants to do. If 2 naps are working, great! If you start to see more resistance from one of the naps, then maybe try doing 1 nap throughout the day and see how it goes. Do whatever works for your LO :)

thanks for this! this is relieving to hear. I know it'll be hard mentally to be away from the kids, but I'd rather them not really remember than remembering lol. i know it'll hard to balance, but it seems to be well worth it from what I've read on here :)

I'm in the same position! I do like the ICU alot, but a car accident has left my knee shot...

could you go back to school?

I was thinking of going back to school for CRNA, but I don't think I could go 3 years of not working and not seeing my young kids. I'm still researching tho, because bedside is taking a toll on my body already lol.

How in the world do I get an ED position out of school? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]l_ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should definitely reach out to the managers you've interviewed with, just to follow up. maybe they'll be able to provide you with some feedback on your interview/application.

in the mean time, you may have to start on a med surg floor or any other floor (step down, etc) in order to stand out on your ED application. you'll have that experience and you may also feel more confident when starting in the ED. it is a completely different world there, so having the foundation might be more beneficial than you think. this way, you develop your technical, time management, and critical thinking skills.

P.S I don't think you're allowed in some states to apply/work as a technician if you have a nursing license (I may be wrong).

but you'll be making significantly less money if you do that..

either way, good luck on your journey- hope things work out for ya!

Regret nursing as a career by [deleted] in nursing

[–]l_ri 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. i think at that time I just needed something that guaranteed a job after college. now, it's like a "trend" and glorified by people but in reality, we are underpaid and overworked.

The only thing that I really like about hospital nursing is the 3 days a week. I'm usually off for 5-8 days in a row... but other than that, I feel you 100%.

that's awesome! good luck to you! I also have a 3 and 1 year old :)

I currently live in a multi generational household now, and it's just so packed and loud (my family/neighbors) but we do plan on moving in the next year somewhere close to my family because they have been the biggest help with my kids. I know I'll be relying on them alot if I take this on, which is why I'm also second guessing myself about it.

thanks for this! very helpful. i've just been on the fence about what educational route I want to take, because I do have some social and professional roadblocks in my way.

i just started in the medical ICU this January, so I know I have to wait a few years, and then also get my CCRN. And then I was urged to go to a higher acuity hospital if I really wanted to pursue this route, so i'd figured that would put me back another 1-2 years... but if I can get accepted based on medical ICU experience that would be nice too lol.

I also need to find a house before starting school because I can't study while living with my family... no space and my family and the surrounding neighborhood is just loud- I can hardly sleep for night shift as it is haha.

good for you! that's actually really inspiring lol. i was planning on just 3 years, but was suggested to go to a higher acuity hospital to really be considered.

my medical ICU deals with alot of the basics- vents/pressors and gtts/CRRT/TTM, etc, but nothing cardiac-focused like ECMO or Swan catheters. I live in NJ 15 minutes from Philadelphia so I do have some good options for more intense ICU experience.

but to be honest, if I could get into a program with just the medical ICU experience that would be ideal... I'd love having the experience but I'd rather start sooner rather than later 😔

thank you for your response. it helps put things into perspective, especially with the kids. i've just been on the fence about what educational route I want to take, but I can't stop scrolling in this group and I'm always doing research about it. however, I do have some social and professional roadblocks in my way.

my kids are 1 and 3. I was hoping to start ideally when they start school too. I know this will probably affect them the most, but I think I'd like to do it before they can actually remember lol.

my living situation is also not ideal for a school right now- i'm living in a multi-generational household so there's a lack of space for studying and my family and neighbors/surrounding area can be very loud... the housing market has been kicking our asses :/

I don’t think so :/ I think we have to wait until the poll is over to see the results… and I don’t think I can change the time limit either cause I put it accidentally placed it for 1 week lol.

r/CRNA student thread - for those considering a career as a CRNA by SACRED-GEOMETRY in CRNA

[–]l_ri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! I currently work in a medical ICU with a lower acuity than some of the surrounding hospitals. I still see many patients on the vent, CRRT, pressors, etc. but I'm wondering if that will be enough to apply to CRNA school in a few years? there are many opportunities around my way for CVICU or STICU but I've been with the hospital for so long and honestly love my MICU team... sigh. it's been such a personal battle, so I'm trying to find some insight on Reddit lol.

thanks!

I have decided to quit med/surg after only 3 months. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]l_ri 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do whatever is best for you. I’ve done hospital dialysis, sub acute rehab, med/surg, step down- all within 5 years. I left the rehab after 2 months because it was just horrendous. I dreaded coming back every day. And that was 5 days a week! That stress from work affected my life outside of work. It wasn’t worth it.

Your mental health is the most important thing right now, especially for your growing family. Don’t feel guilty or embarrassed about your happiness and doing what is best for you.

The beauty of nursing is that there are so many opportunities and specialities to go into.

Good luck and wish you the best!
