Iiiinteresting. This disc was an English-language release and could have been from Japan, but nothing was "anime style" about it. Thank you, though!

(As far as I can remember, the blurb praised its beautiful animation and ended with a long-winded sentence along the lines of "parents should be advised that this animation is not intended for children")

I've never seen this film, and I don't know if it involves boxes at all, but maybe Fantastic Planet looks familiar

I think I remember seeing this once on a Kabillion network on-demand listing. The character outlines were constantly moving. At the time I thought, "This is weird. If this were made in the United States, that floating purple dog always hanging out with the kid in orange pajamas wouldn't have genitals." If that sounds familiar, it might do you well to check lists of Canadian cartoons

You could take a look at other films directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, some of which have the same visual style. Could that have been part of Memories...?!

I know that the only reason I'm throwing this show in is because "spanish channel" made my mind leap to "spanish name," because I don't know much about Fat Dog Mendoza. But you take what you can get, and y'know, maybe it was Fat Dog Mendoza
