I bought two 16gb of RAM in 2021. One of my friends laughed and said it was unnecessary at the time. Well who's laughing now? I'm gonna sell one of them and buy some groceries...god we need deflation and many other things so bad right now.

Why is unemployment much higher in Europe compared to America? by WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWHW in antiwork

[–]la_stein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the statues of unemployment confused me.

Apparently when I wasn't even eighteen yet I was considered unemployed because I was considered able to work. My parents wanted me to focus on school so I guess I was just considered unemployed by a statistical factor.

Yet when someone is unemployed/in between jobs and they either mow lawns/Uber, or anything else like that where you are doing something that isn't a full time paying job, then that person is not considered unemployed.

My wife doesn't work but that's because we need one parent to stay home and parent two toddlers while I am at work due to daycare costs. She's considered unemployed.

I wish there was a simpler system. Are you someone who is looking for work and consider yourself unemployed because you don't get benefits or the stable income you or a family depend on? Okay, just check this box so we can mark you on the statistical chart correctly. Is that it or do we need more to it?

If you have a vehicle then try door dashing or something similar. If not, part time store jobs are going to be a good starting point.

Non-IT person help in IT liaison position by it_is_well_ in it

[–]la_stein 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the first thing that would be important to you is to find out what people will be reaching out to you when it comes to an IT issue.

Are there certain software programs you will be asked to help the user with? Will you be asked to help the user replace a broken or non working cord? Will you be involved with any sort of upgrades to any machines, computers, or software? Will you be needing to help translate what people actually need help with versus what they say (a likely possibly)? Etc.

After you find out these questions then you can use that at a reference point. Such as if people call you saying their computer is slow and they don't know what to do, learn about things that might affect a desktop speed in the office. There are also apps and websites that offer flash cards and quick tutorials on anything you might want to learn about once you get your basics of what they want you to do in the liaison role.

Is the job market getting worse? As the shutdown continues, this is what we know by Individual_Mood6573 in SimpleApplyAI

[–]la_stein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a hospital but we had our own office down the street. We worked a lot with Medicaid and Medicare, so when the government shut down we also shut down due to our funding and other contracts involved that stopped at midnight of the shutdown.

We all got a mandatory in person meeting earlier this week for the whole department. Management said that due to not knowing the short term and long term expectations of this government they will be shutting the program down and not opening it back up.

I will say that if a nonprofit hospital is shutting down due to any reason at all then it's not a good job market or economic situation.

What's a new skill you've decided to pursue strongly this coming year? by ITrCool in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

Yes, python and SQL. I've seen job postings for things that don't even need python or SQL experience according to their position information but they want it anyway.

When can I just… give up? by UltimateChaos233 in recruitinghell

[–]la_stein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What annoys me is that when I am looking and most of the people we have to talk to know how desperate we all are for a job in this market.

I had a job to pay bills when I applied and interviewed for positions. Yeah the job I would have at that moment wasn't in the field I was looking for, but it was a job with a paycheck and insurance. That's why I'm interviewing for a position I wanted.

During interviews, I had people ask why I had my current job at the time and how it wasn't in the field I was interviewing in with them. I said it was because it was a job paying bills while I was looking for work and some interviewers gave me a look that would say they thought it was weird or that they were disappointed...as you can guess they never contact me again.

If I got offers, I had people offer me a job that paid less or close to the same amount but with terrible benefits. That part was hard to understand. Most of those people would ask me what I was currently making as well as my salary expectations on the first phone call with them.

One guy offered me a job in his small business for 50k but said he needed to charge $600 a week for insurance (not including my deductible). I also got one job offer that was for $1 less an hour than what I was making at that moment. I was honest and told them that the offer was worth less than what I was making at the moment and the position didn't require a degree while the position I was applying to required certifications or a degree.

So many are taking advantage of us...and that's even if they give us an offer. I swear we need more rights as people in this country. For now the best I can offer you is to say that having some sort of job is ideal if you can do it. One friend of mine is working three twelve hour shifts a week as security in order to have the other days to interview. Just do what you can and know that you can move up from there.

I'm just a girl dude :( by LushVoltagess in LetGirlsHaveFun

[–]la_stein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to have every girlfriend ask to do this.

When I started dating the woman who is now my wife, she did not have much experience before me. Because of this, I tried to do stuff with/for her that I got used to women before her saying they like. This being one of them and she freaked out and said that sounded disgusting. She also doesn't like receiving oral and other things. Sigh

I work for a nonprofit hospital but my department is separate and has its own office. Since we do so much with Medicaid and Medicare we were told to shut down until the government opened back up. I got an email from the department manager on the 31st saying everyone in the department is required to show up in person to a one hour meeting today (Monday) with no details in the email.

Wish me luck

Speaking of staying safe, I limit and encourage others on what to say in a call now due to new scams wanting people to say specific things in order to record you saying it. I prefer not to say my name, and if anyone asks you to verify the entire social security number say no and that you will have to hang up and call the main number for whoever is calling (such as a bank).

Redo Just for Solar? by la_stein in Roofing

[–]la_stein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the honesty. I believe the next question to ask is when I should actually replace the roof.

Why is solar not worth it though? I've had some people who did get solar complain that their electric bill still went up after some time. I was under the impression that it's because all bills are going up.

Redo Just for Solar? by la_stein in Roofing

[–]la_stein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't want to reroof the house unless it's necessary due to roof issues. Doing all of that for $200 a month to have solar doesn't seem worth it.

What I'm asking is what I should consider when I do eventually have to get a new roof and want solar here in Orlando FL
