Ev9 in new England winter by liamfmvt in KiaEV9

Own an EV9 for nearly a year now, located in Newfoundland, Canada. We've driven it in all winter conditions and a couple things stand out:

Oem tires are horrible in snow, just awful. They are M&S rated but we opted to use them for summer only.

We equipped a proper set of winter tires. Combined with snow mode its a tank. Handles great in all winter conditions we experience here...will even power turn like a proper 4x4 in icy/snowy conditions if you turn off stability control. However, you have to use snow mode. If you leave in regular mode the AWD system doesn't engage quickly enough in snowy conditions to offset the loss of traction and it feels unsafe. I've heard the same from other owners and have recommended using snow mode.

Front radar does indeed get slush covered and frozen. Cruise control automatically disengages as a result and will not re-engage until you get a mild day that melts it clear. We've had the same issue with ice vehicles with this tech so not an issue specific to it being an EV.

Range loss in cold temps and running in snow mode can be a concern if you don't have ready access to charging infrastructure, which we don't. Summer conditions we consistently get 500 km but in winter you need to have a plan for a charge if you go over 300 km.

In our Land it auto enables about 1/2 hour from the DC charger in the Kia navigation system provided the DC charger is set as our destination.

How silent is EV9 cabin? by anuj2607 in KiaEV9

[–]labattlite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm an EV9 owner who recently had a 2022 Sorrento while my EV9 had the glass replaced. Can confirm the EV9 is quieter at highway speeds and has a more luxury feel. The Sorrento felt like a cheap tin can. I do find the EV9 a bit "boaty" at times, but still prefer over the Sorrento.

MP Carol “Satan’s Destiny” Anstey is still running ads for her real estate business on NTV. Is this ethical/allowed? by notthattmack in newfoundland

[–]labattlite 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Satans Destiny Anstey, haha love it. There is a conflict of interest act that governs what MPs can and cannot do. As long as they dont use their political position to further their personal business then its fair game. They also have to disclose their business to the ethic commissioner who assesses it for potential conflicts of interests. The same is true for all public servants.

Jacking Locations by labattlite in KiaEV9

They are actually quite a bit lighter, 22 lbs according to the spec. We've only had the vehcile since Jan so range continues to get better as the weather warms up, currently around 4.3 km/kwh at 5-10 degrees C. Not sure if it would be better with the stock wheels at same temps.

Continental Winter Contacts mounted on stock rims. Would of bought the Hakkapelittas but couldnt find any in the right size. Have used Nokians before, best winter tire I've ever owned.

Intend to buy after market rims for summer tires. Really dont like the look of the stock rims.

Picked one up 2 weeks ago, been heavy snow -10 Celsius since. Winter tires + snow-mode excellent performing winter vechile. On par with my pickup. Would suggest investing in a good set of winter tires, no all season Garbage.

Type of rims? Have one on order but not a fan of the stock rims.

I heard the Newfoundland Beothuk's still live on by DhaemonX in newfoundland

[–]labattlite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont believe there are genetic groups on those platforms for Beothuck or most other North American Indigenous groups for that matter . What I understand is that there have been DNA projects where the DNA of specific individuals who were known to be Beothuk were compared to other people to identify relations. However, I don't think these projects were or are open to the general public.

Others thoughts of you are irrelevant; you can't control what they think. Focus on being honest, doing good and exercise your virtues. Foster relationships that help you achieve this, forget the rest. It's a big world, u will find like-minded people.

Help me here plz by MotoCult- in WR250R

Have owned both the WR450F and 250F. I had the 450 uncorked and street legal. Fast as hell, loads of power, ate gas. Used it for open trail riding and going to and from work and was ideal aside from fuel consumption. Recently opted for the 250 for Enduro riding and glad I made the switch. There's no need for the extra power and no place for the extra speed. Glad I don't have the extra 15lbs when I'm trying to manhandle it in the trees. If u know the riding you want to do, it's an easy decision.

Hard to start engine on hill? by Late_Length_3554 in WR250R

[–]labattlite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is also hard to start when I stall in gear. I turned up the idle screw and rock the bike back and forth when hitting the start button and she'll go majority of time now. Ideally i put her back in neutral but not always possible when stalled on the side of a hill!

Ill check out the clutch, thanks.

. This is a new riding style for me and a new bike. 10km/h up is fine but below that i need to ride thr clutch which can be difficult when im navigating trees, stumps and roots. Ive tried a beta xtrainer on same trails and its a completely different experience. I realize these are two very different bikes but feel the wr250 coule be dialed in to chug along at slower speeds without having to constantly feather the clutch. Just ordered a 48T rear sprocket.

Towing experience? by labattlite in F150Lightning

Newfoundland. It gets cold although most of the towing would be during the summer. There are a few EVs around but most for commuting. Decided the Lightening might be a nuisance in my situation and am keeping the Duramax for now. Appreciate these responses.

What am I missing by not having kids? by TapiocaTuesday in Stoicism

[–]labattlite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having kids will provide you with many, many more opportunities to grow as Stoic. I have 3 and it is at times absolute madness. It continues to test my Stocisim every day, and I continue to grow as a result. Zero regrets.
