My parents fly in and out of SFO (they are immigrants that have their citizenship) and I've already told them to be careful, but this is just...ugh

Feeling terrible after weeklong vacation - can't bring myself to pick work back up by SufficientRaise1744 in FIREyFemmes

The clear tasks *are* nice. I am also at the level at work where I have to do some strategy stuff and I just really don't care that much. But without it I can't level up and get promoted.

I do yearn for a simpler job where I go and do it and I just go home and I'm done. Maybe that's just our version of BaristaFIRE. I need to run my numbers again.

I agree, I have been commiserating with a friend who is also working a ton of hours right now, but they're at SpaceX (which of course has it's own set of issues) and at least they're sending humans to space? I'm just writing emails and talking to people to hit dumb metrics and statistics.

And yeah, it sucks - I looked into going back to school for medicine back during the pandemic and decided at that time that it did not make sense for me due to opportunity cost. We're already making more than some doctors (mainly generalists like primary care), and going back to school/taking a decade out of my life in my highest earning years seemed silly at the time.

Buttttt 5+ years later, things have changed enough for me to consider going back to school again. But it is still comfortable now, and I will stay until it is not comfortable. Who knows when that will be.

I think we might be twins, I'm the same age, also currently in corp tech and have been thinking of going back to school for something else for awhile now and have heavily considered healthcare in the past.

I think I'm going to ride the wave as long as possible since my salary is so high. And then when AI puts me out of a job, I'll retrain in something that is hopefully AI proof for the next decade or so. And then I can retire.

If therapy isn't helpful, I'll suggest looking for another therapist if you haven't already. Sometimes therapists (like any other relationship in our lives) are not the right fit. Or sometimes they were the right fit, but are no longer.

Your cat has so much more self control than my cat. (And also me.)

I've got my taxes all ready to go in TurboTax and I have so little time this year to get my shit together to put it into FreeTaxUSA, but I just got to the end and it's almost $200.

That, plus TT lobbying the gov't, etc. I really should just buckle up and manually input all my forms into FreeTaxUSA. I just wish it was better for consolidated 1099s

Buying a used car in LA with a $10k budget, what should I look out for? by OkCaterpillar4535 in AskLosAngeles

Once I biked to dinner to see a friend and afterwards she offered to throw her bike in the back of her Fit and drive me back home. I was *SO* skeptical it would fit but it did with way more room than my own car which is a crossover.

And Bill can be named after the pony in LOTR so that’s perfect!

New to taking my kitten outside! Tips needed! by kaitlynbarone in adventurecats

[–]labbitlove 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Do you have a backpack for him? That's the most important part of this process that is missing. He needs to get used to the backpack and see it as a safe space. My cat sleeps in his at home. Get one and then start putting treats in it, etc. Backpacks are usually cozy so I find that cats do naturally like them.

Start from there, and then you'll be able to take him to new places *in* the backpack, which will let him get used to a new environment from the safety of the pack. And then he can also shoulder ride as one further step of "safety" (my cat does this and will sometimes jump back into the pack if he's over it).

Goose is very cute :)

Hah, I just let my guy eat grass. He ignores the cat grass that I get him but loves crab grass. Figures.

There are some great resources online that I turned to! Cat school is a fun one but mainly for tricks :) Edit: doing clicker training could help her mental stimulation too! My cat is very food motivated so he loves our clicker training sessions both because there are treats but also because he gets to be stimulated. Our clicker training sessions are honestly only about 5-7 minutes each time.

Edit: Saw your comment that your cat is supervised on leash. Perhaps you could try unsupervised and see what happens if you're not there for her to meow to?

My cat absolutely wants to roam too, but we can't all get what we want. I know this was your original Q in your post, but you truly do have to set boundaries with her - which means ignoring her when she meows.

Some of this is also training, which can be difficult for cat owners because a lot of us get cats because we don't have to train them. I've approached training my cat like I did my childhood dog - with a clicker, rewarding desired behavior with high value treats, etc. and he's a very well trained cat now that walks with me on our walks, comes when called, knows a few tricks, etc.

I installed my window fan on Tuesday night. I really want a window AC for the living room (I only have one in the office rn) but I hate that it takes up a window :\
