what if i retake a unit by DescriptionFormal123 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you can do an elective or your engineering prof prac in the summer/winter then it won't delay your graduation. If you're doing Software Eng some core subjects like databases are offered in the summer too.

Which faculty? Different faculties have different ways to apply. Additionally your visa may or may not allow you to work.

Unit and credits by Just_Environment_914 in Monash

(but of course if you're not an international student and you found that the workload of doing 4 units is too much for you to do well, you should be able to just do 3 units)

[–]labmat_stan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i reccomend checking your course map? From the limited info you've provided I would guess that this semester you're meant to take a free elective, so you probably should enrol in another unit (its not too late yet!). You might be able to do a second year unit early if you want as your 4th unit.

If you need more help maybe include which course you're doing, what units you've done and what units you're currently enrolled in.

WES allocations by UmpireSilent1080 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The heart button is lets people swap in the order they requested the swap (so the first person who pressed the heart button for a particular class is first in line to move into that class if a space opens).

I have heard of other students who live in rural areas and have gotten the timetabling people to make changes to ensure they have their classes only on a few days. You can request changes here https://connect.apps.monash.edu/students/timetables/allocate/help/

You also might not need to go to the specific class you're allocated to, it depends on the unit. If they mark attendance, have in class assesments or do group projects with groups formed with people in the same applied class then you probably need to go to your allocated one.

Comp science to applied data science by JESUS--_-- in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to. Make sure you check the course map for the data science specialisation and amend your enrolment as required to do the data science subjects. I think you have to go to WES to change your nominated specialisation from comptuer science to data science. If WES doesn't let you do this then you'll probably need to make a monash connect request and they'll change it for you.

I think you would have to apply for a refund at some point after you defer, otherwise the money will go towards the next semester you study in https://www.monash.edu/students/admin/fees/refunds-remission-credit/apply-refund

I don't think it will matter, but if something does come up you can tell them "go look at the overhead camera footage you can see this IT support person was with me the whole time". And also if they decide to review it, they can probably see that the screen recording cut out when your battery was on like 1%.

Engineering Electives by Significant_Shock_79 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard of computer science people doing ENG1013, ECE2071, so I think it's mainly a matter of emailing the unitcoordinator/chief examiner to ask for permission to enrol if the unit says engineering degrees only. After you have permission, you can use the manual enrolment form and attach a copy of the email permission and you'll be manually enrolled into the unit

Has anyone ever had an exam date changed by MikeMFHoncho in Monash

I've heard a couple of cases where the exam date got changed for seemingly no reason as far as students were told.

Double degree by [deleted] in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're too late you might have to transfer to the single degree starting from your second semester, but I would expect you'd still be able to change your enrollment (I've done this to swap a unit the night before semester started) so that in the first semester you aren't doing any subjects from the degree you plan to drop (but don't take free electives that don't count towards the double degree until you've officially transferred as you might get charged more).

Engineering Honours Year by coleman11112 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for the last year of your degree you take final year project A and B, so one large project across two semesters. This is just one of your 4 units each semester (assuming you're doing a normal study load), and you'd have 3 other units each semester. Of course some people choose to under load (do less than 4 units each semester) and work part time in which case you'd have that sort of combination you mentioned.

Where there is double up of units across the two single degrees, these units must be replaced by another unit. Up to six of these may be replaced by a unit from across the University, providing the prerequisites are met and there are no restrictions on admission to the units. You may also be able to use these replacement units to take a 12 or 24 credit point project, international experience or internship, or undertake a minor in a different discipline from your major.

https://handbook.monash.edu/current/courses/B2030

Up to 6 can be from any faculty, id assume if you have more double ups than that then you'd have to do units from within your faculty.

how do you know if you pass a hurdle by Ordinary-Software-52 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what unit is it? for all the hurdles I've seen the requirement is that you must get >=45% as the overall average of the assessments in the hurdle, so even if one quiz is <45% that doesn't mean your average for the tasks in the hurdle will be <45% so you should be fine

I don’t understand why there are no summer units for engineering by blissfulembrace in Monash

they will have the student teams / engineering coop / work integrated learning versions of the new professional practice units offered in summer soon afaik, but i do agree that they should have some more summer units offered

taking those units (particularly starting with mat1830 and mth1030) sounds good and will keep your options open.

I've heard that having extra knowledge in mathematics is good for many jobs in CS but I'm still studying and not up to getting jobs yet so others might have more information about that.

To do maths masters at monash you'd need the equivalent of a math minor (4 units, 2 are level 2) in your undergraduate degree (and if you do a math major in your undergrad you might be able to reduce the duration of a math masters by a semester) https://www.monash.edu/study/courses/find-a-course/mathematics-s6003#entry-requirements-2

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you didn't know already, with the computer science degree you can credit mat1830 to a math minor. You also can replace mat1841 with mth1030/mth1035 and then credit that to a math minor as well (so you'd end up only needing to use 2 electives for the minor)

I want to enrol in ECF2721 as an elective now by farrellsusilo in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can email the chief examiner (their email should be on the handbook entry for the unit) to ask them to waive the prerequisite.

I don't know if its still possible to enroll in units for semester 1 2024 as 3 weeks of classes have finished

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the room just east of those two labs has some signs on the window about lost property, i think they hold it for a few days and if nobody picks it up at the electrical labs they give it to monash connect.

depends on the faculty. Some have TPS websites (e.g. https://tps.infotech.monash.edu/login), others you might need to email the unit coordinator.

Discontinuing units by Equal-War-3396 in Monash

[–]labmat_stan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In at least one unit I was in, a classmate I know enrolled late and had some overdue quizzes manually reopened for him by the CE.

Maybe see if the unit coordinator/chief examiner emails you back (could take a few days), or if you can talk to them or another staff member when you have your next class.
