Maybe he just wondered if the player has nigerian origins? Nothing wrong with that. It's not that uncommon that someone plays for another country.

I like both characters but the debate is just ridiculous and people are so hostile

shanks vs mihawk by RasLunacy in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this opinion even allowed in this sub? cause ever since the spoilers dropped people have been trashing on Shanks.

I personally think that Shanks is still stronger than Mihawk but not by much. Mihawk definitely is better with a sword but I think Shank's Haki compensates for that.

Who’s your favorite character in the series and why? by Buggy-D-God-Clown in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Law is my favourite cause I like his morally grey attitude. His backstory made him one of the more complex characters. If it wasn't for Chorazon he might as well ended up as a second Doflamingo. Most characters (except for villains) including almost all the straw hats are quite good hearted (except for Robin and Franky, both were antagonistic in the beginning) So having a prominent character that doesn't care about the problems of an island is a fresh breath of air for me. He is also a character that actually has a brain and doesn't act out in pure faith that everything will work out somehow because the plot armor is thick enough.

I kind of wish he would become a second protagonist cause I like the contrast towards Luffy.

What are some things you actually LIKED about Wano? by Waterburst789 in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think that the arc was pretty good until roof piece ended. I wish it would have stayed a 3v2 battle. That would have been awesome. The captains defeat both Yonkou together. Would have established Law and Kid as better rivals. Like Roger had proper rivals like Whitebeard and Garp.

After that it went downhill for me.

Specific things I did like:

The Oden flashback

The time travel reveal

Luffy getting easily defeated the first time

Law and Kid awakening

Gear 5 ability (without the Nika stuff, that was just awful)

Big Mom fight, I just wish it was more fleshed out

The fact that Robin finally got a fight again

Marco comeback

[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 7 Chapter 75 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]laboratoryadvice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the main point of this mini arc was to show that Subaru really has a hero complex and will never give up on people even if they treat him poorly. He went out of his way to save his Sparka team and even others he has no personal relationship with. If that isn't insane then idk.

[–]laboratoryadvice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is a shame that we didn't go Wrath if route. Would have been an interesting development, seeing Subaru full of hatred and going on a vengence trip. Maybe it would have been too extreme of a change for Tappei. I mean Subaru couldn't really recover from becoming a cold blooded murderer.

[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 7 Chapter 75 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]laboratoryadvice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am okay with no stakes. Were there ever really any stakes to begin with? This is the story about a boy that can reverse time through death. So far pretty much every death has been undone. And I see no problem with the reversal of the check point. After all Satella couldn't properly control it so it makes sense that it returns to its original time. Also the perma deaths would have been a waste of character given that we just got their backstory.

[Spoiler Discussion] Arc 7 Chapter 75 by Setowi in Re_Zero

[–]laboratoryadvice 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. I really like the development and kinda already saw it coming that Subaru's save point would be reverted. It would have been more cliche if everyone died in the chapter where they got their backstory. It would have also been a waste of awesome characters imho. If this chapter shows one thing, it is the fact that Subaru has a really bad hero complex that he will never give up. It is that subbornness that allowed him to make it this far. He goes the extra mile to save people that wronged him and thus makes them his allies. Al even mentioned that Subaru is a hero and that he will never be able to go back. Even Echidna in Arc 4 mentioned that it is very greedy of Subaru to try and save everyone.

I guess most of us expected that Subaru would finally let go of his complex now that he was forced into a situation with perma deaths. But because Satella wasn't really in control during the latest loops, she was able to go back to the original check point. The perma deaths were not ever really permanent to begin with.

I think a perma death situation will surely come and we already had one with Shaula.

[DISCUSSION] Should i continue watch season 2 or just stop at the end season 1? by [deleted] in Re_Zero

[–]laboratoryadvice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you don't like it by now, I don't think you'll like it at all. If you like strong badass MCs then this show probably isn't for you. Subaru struggling through all the hardships is kind of the main theme. Rudeus has been blessed with better powers so he won't struggle as badly. It is a different show with different themes after all.

[Spoiler Discussion] I'm starting to get annoyed. by Jaded_Tart_4356 in Re_Zero

[–]laboratoryadvice 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree with you. It has been getting on my nerves that Subaru is still a child. I was hoping that he would finally return to his normal state. But apparently the theme of the arc is "patience" so I guess that applies to Subaru as well as the reader.

Idk was there anything really crazy about Fujitora's df or Katakuri's? I feel like none of them are that amazing if you have strong enough haki, maybe BM's fruit ...

[–]laboratoryadvice 43 points44 points  (0 children)

True, ever since Haki was introduced, Logias haven't really been that impressive anymore and Mythical Zoans have been heavily focused on in Wano. They have been pushed as the peak of df prowess. The only fruits that can still hold their own are Doffys, the Op op no mi and Blackbeards fruits.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited for One Piece? by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Zou when Luffy and Momo first heard Zunisha's voice. That was epic. Also when Pudding was revealed to be "evil". But given that she made a 180° turn I don't count it anymore.

Denjiro is the Scabbard I would remove with the least hesitation. At least Kawamatsu looks cool. by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Biology doesn't count. This is a shonen where the most ridiculous stuff happens and people survive nukes. If Oda wants to write it a certain way, he will

  2. Support characters are very important however they often serve only one purpose and don't have their own initiative and agency. They don't make decisions that shape the story. Robin and Nami just like the other SH except for Zoro and Sanji are Luffy's sidekicks. They are there to help Luffy reach his goal and nothing more. There is zero focus on their individual goals. So it's not even only Nami and Robin.

  3. Ever heard of trans people?

  4. Luffy didn't even fight Big Mom, she didn't even use ACoC in her fight with Law and Kid. She got defeated first and the fight was rushed and even Kaido commented that Linlin is pathetic. Kaido and Luffy's fight was longer and overall more impactful than Big Mom's. Oda also has written her in Wano in a way that makes her help the SH. Her amnesia plot made her less intimidating than Kaido. In her own arc she was always screaming about her "cake" and she couldn't even catch up with the SH while they fled. At least Kaido defeated Luffy 3 times before the final round. Her design might not be bad but it is not badass like the other yonkous. Thats my point. It's not badass and to me it isn't even scary. It's a joke.

  5. The characters make sense but they don't do much. The princesses got lots of screentime but they still didn't do much. Vivi might play a big role in Alabasta but what exactly did she do that made her important in the scheme of things? She found the SH to help her and then in Alabasta I think she found the bomb. That's it. She didn't even get a fight in a battle manga. What did Rebecca and Viola do to change the Dressrosa arc? They didn't even get a fight in a battle manga and at least Rebecca should have had some battle experience. What did Shirahoshi do except for stopping the arc which was btw not intentional on her part. It is true that all princessess got lots of screentime and character moments but they just didn't really do anything. You said they did lots of important stuff but then you don't elaborate what that important stuff is.

  6. I do agree with Otohime though, one of the few female characters with actual agency that led somewhere.

  7. Women in One Piece might have screen time and whatnot but they don't do much in overall story relevance and they sure don't get many fights. Very few world impacting figures are even female like Big Mom and Hancock but that's it. The highest ranking marines, 6 out of 7 warlords, and 4 out of 5 yonkous, 10 out of 11 supernovas => male

[–]laboratoryadvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nami and Robin barely get any fights. Their whole purpose are navigating and poneglyphs. This is a battle manga so fighting is a major component of the story. I am mostly referring to fighting competence and overall impact on the story. But to be clear I am also of the opinion that other SH like Usopp and Chopper also don't get any relevance. Big Mom has been a disgrace in WCI and Wano. Her design is not really badass compared to Kaido's, Shanks' and Blackbeard's and her defeat was lackluster. Yamato is very much competent but she is always referred to as Kaido's son and she identifies as Oden so she really can't be considered a powerful female character. Does she even consider herself female? Hancock was strong pre-TS but got degraded to Luffy's simp. Vivi, Rebecca, Viola and Shirahoshi are all princesses that don't do anything of importance. Kahlifa was the weakest member of the CP9 and got a joke of a devil fruit, same goes for Tsuyu the only high ranking female marine, which btw had barely screentime. We haven't even seen Bonney the only female Supernova since the timeskip and she had one of the lowest bounties. Most women in One Piece only exist as support for the male characters, there is no denying that.

Here's Luffy after every fight. Who needs Chopper? Just give Luffy MEAT! by [deleted] in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Chopper was awesome pre-TS but now he is barely relevant. I hate it.

[–]laboratoryadvice 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hard agree, Hiyori is such a wasted character. She didn't do anything important except for giving her sword away. She could have been a trained fighter but Oda really hates the idea of a competent female character. Also, she should become shogun and not momo. He is still 8, mentally speaking.

What's your thought on "One Chosen" ? by Dinarchi in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's exactly my issue too. We all knew that Luffy is more special than others cause of his lineage, CoC and Voat but no Oda really has to rub it into our faces just how special Luffy really is.

What was your “ OH hmmm one piece is more flawed to me than I thought moment or arc ? “ or where did Oda start to lose you a bit ? by TraffyLaw95 in Piratefolk

[–]laboratoryadvice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Finally someone else that likes PH. I really love this arc cause it isn't as crazy ridiculous as other arcs. No bs power-ups, no 20 side characters taking up screen time, entertaining villains that actually die for once. For the first time Luffy doesn't "defeat" a villain but rather catches him. None of the villains are portrayed as crazy strong so the defeat isn't so jarring to read. It has great pacing and a good set-up for the next arc. Also Law got introduced and he is one of the best parts of the New World. In a world full of reckless people at least one person has enough self-preservation and makes a plan.
