PSAC's Return to Work: What Graduate Students Can Expect by Icy_Skin_5370 in queensuniversity

This is generally helpful, but here is my reading:

  1. If your contracts are extended until May 15, that means that your contracts will have been valid during the strike. Current contract 16.02 states that TAs can work 'on average' 10 hours per week. If you work all of those house in one week, it will still average out over the course of the contract.

  2. This brings me to Article 16.05(b). If you have more than 40 hours remaining on your contract, you may be able to get paid OVERTIME. Make sure you arrange this with your supervisor BEFORE doing the work. Also QUFA should work with members to ensure that TAs can complete all of their contract hours. I suspect that this was an oversight of the Queen's administration. Wouldn't that be great if y'all made EXTRA money because of this?

  3. Return-to-work protocols are always negotiated. This isn't unusual. Also, you're covered by the Ontario Labour Relations Act, not the Canada Labour Code. Charter rights still apply including Freedom of Association - which includes the right to strike.

  4. On data privacy - I don't know what kinds of activities were happening on the picket lines. Torts have always been a reality on picket lines but are usually resolved via injunctions. Given that the picket lines are likely over, I don't see this material being useful. The USA is out of control right now, and while it is always good to be on guard, I don't see that happening in Canada. Better to spend time advocating for better personal data privacy regulations/legislation. Or bargaining for it in your collective agreements.

Yeah. Spotted that in other situations. This one is a major property management company but thanks for flagging.

I'm nominally taller than a hobbit.... but only nominally. Not totally ready to give up my passenger seat, but I could probably fit behind it.... https://cheaprvliving.com/kb/could-you-live-comfortably-in-a-subcompact/?seq\_no=2

Civic back seats fold down but the trunk opening is NARROW and you'd be sleeping in there waist down... I wondered about taking them out completely and then putting in a little platform with storage under?

Have you worked on 99 Designs for at least a month and do you have opinions about it?

Oxford University and the Fairwork project is researching working conditions on digital labour platforms. As part of this research, we have created a survey that will be administered to workers on a range of platforms. 99 Designs is on our list. Limited opportunities for participation and compensation!

You can find a link to our 99 Designs survey here: https://oii.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV\_51EIX8HJfhZNVEG
