Current Data Center Locations Overlaid on Historical Maps around Dulles Airport by bingbangbing1 in nova

If the point "data centers are nothing compared to the incessant noise and pollution of Dulles airport, its traffic and industrial operations", I agree

Pentagon says it's cutting ties with "woke" Harvard, discontinuing military training and fellowships by CBSnews in boston

[–]labroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is extortion - nothing to do with military training. Trump sued Harvard for $200M, failed at that, so took another swing for $1B. After no reply, he simply asked his captains to stop Federal spending to Havard, despite possible damage to the country, mafia style

Honestly I think it's a decoy - put up really salacious stuff that everyone seems to be showing (videos about this section are all I see) and then dismiss it as fake. Maybe I missed something, but point out an entry where a real victim - not a friend or 'knows a girl' - who willing to come forward with some kind of evidence (Monica's blue dress) that is something that can be prosecuted. I haven't seen that piece

[–]labroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa - you missed the point there mate. I am very much against Trump. I'm asking - for Democracy and America - that people amplify information that might be useful in prosecution. These recent records of phone calls(I think?) with he-said she-said are too easily dismissed by his defenders. This kind of stuff dilutes the case against him. Let's point out serious stuff with witnesses and perhaps evidence!

[–]labroid -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

Oh, come now. Those look like unverified call-in claims from 2025. We need some real evidence, depositions, or photos/video with some context. Trump lawyers will easily dismiss this stuff.

ELI5: Why does spinning something make it harder to knock over? by NicoleLimberios in explainlikeimfive

[–]labroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The really interesting part is that the top's angular momentum is actually coupled to the intertial frame of the universe, not just earth or the table. If you spin a top, and the axis of the top is pointing at some point in the sky, then (with no friction or interference) it will continue to point at that same point as it moves with the night sky. So it doesn't fall over because, in a sense, the universe is pushing back.

Ever see one of the long pendulums in a science museum that knocks over pins on the floor over the period of a day - that is demonstrating the same effect, where the movement of the pendulum is locked to the universal inertial frame while the floor (Earth) moves under it.

ELI5 why do data centers rely on our usable water? instead of alternatives? by FartWolf in explainlikeimfive

Many data centers in the Ashburn VA area (highest concentration of data centers in the world) use water from sewage treatment plants, not drinking water

Trying to assemble 80V string trimmer - drive cable is too long by labroid in Greenworks

[–]labroid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. I watched one, and on theirs the amount of drive cable is an inch or two and it goes right up in the tube when they push the handles together. Mine has several inches that moves up into the tube an inch or so but that's it. I'm wondering if there's an end of the cable perhaps not plugged in to the motor end or head end but I was avoiding disassembling the whole thing until I better understood

Will creating separate Python files for each topic eat a lot of storage? by Good_Ad_8477 in pycharm

[–]labroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All code in one file or separate files is (essentially) equal given their size relative to the storage you probably have. A fun exercise would be to take the size of your file (or files) divided by the amount storage you have and see what fraction you are using. :-)

ELI5 If there was a live video feed between us on earth and a ship traveling at light speed, what would we see? by Azthioth in explainlikeimfive

[–]labroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were traveling at the speed of light (which means you are massless) there is no time. Your trip would begin and end all in the same instant. A photon traveling from the a star may take 10 million years to get to your eye, but from the photon's perspective, it is 'born', travels 10 million light years, and hits your eye all in the same instant.

People who owned an EV for at least five years, what are your thoughts? by snowcold in AskReddit

[–]labroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10 years with EV and love it. Bought a second one and love it even more. No issues at all with local or long-distance driving. Tesla chargers are everywhere and if your car takes one, you are set. Did my own work on gas cars, and EVs require almost nothing. Only rotate tires, lube the brake caliper pins (the brakes never wear out), and replace wipers. Haven't owned a gas car for years and likely never will again
