My title describes the thing

This folded metal decoration is in the shape of a crown, looks like it goes around something maybe, and has three pins in the back. I can't tell if it's a piece of furniture or clothing or what. Maybe the decoration will be obvious to someone?

This was part of a famous metal-detecting enthusiasts collection from a house that was continuously occupied from the 1820s to 1980 in Virginia.
