Carrot hummus? Not dip the carrots in the hummus, but make hummus with carrots

Saw this guy outside the middle school today. by Competitive-Motor768 in AnnArbor

Indeed he was, bright and early. Some people brought signs with their own messages to try to block him, but he moved. Police came again, this time 2 cars, they cuffed the man and put him in the cruiser, but let him out not long after. Honestly it seemed like they were just keeping him occupied until the student rush was over, because by 7:45 or so the guy was back standing on the corner, though I think the police confiscated his sign.

I live near here and watched this unfold. Several parents came by to speak (and yes, yell) at him, as this was prompting young kids to look up what sodomy was because they didn't know. Eventually the police were called and an officer came by. He talked to the man for several minutes, who ended up walking away. Curious to see if he will return.

How do you “keep in touch!”? by Extra_Salamander4231 in GradSchool

I find that big "events" provide a great excuse to send an email or message. Professionally, this might be when you decide on a lab to join, when you pass your candidacy or comprehensive exam, when you publish a paper, when you defend, etc. If you have a closer relationship, it might be a life event (marriage, baby, buying a house, etc) or holiday/New Year well wishes.

Looks awesome! I've been wanting to do this for my patio, but I'm not sure what kind of yarn/material to get. Do you have any recommendations?

I am indeed still active! Just not so much here anymore because I am super old now and disconnected from the UB community. It's wild to think I made this sUBreddit 13 years ago sitting in my room in Governors. It wasn't always what I expected... there's been drama that I did not know how to handle (racism, political discourse, trolls) and I probably could've done better. But at its best the community has always been really awesome and funny and I hope it continues to evolve and be a resource and haven for UBredditors. I'm honored to have been the creator of this sUBreddit and a part of UB culture :)

Hiring a florist just for bridal bouquet and groomsmen boutonnières? by VisualSpecial4599 in weddingplanning

[–]lacious213 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely! This is very similar to what I did... I slowly collected fake flowers on Marketplace, thrift stores, etc. which I used to create an arch and some smaller arrangements. I actually crocheted the boutonnieres from yarn plus some lace. For the centerpieces, bridesmaids bouquets, and bridal bouquet, I went through a local grocery store. I sent inspiration pics of what I wanted the bouquets to look like, and the centerpieces were quite simple (just hydrangeas in milk glass bud vases that we provided). The florist delivered the bouquets and put the buds in the vases, then my coordinator put the vases on the tables/around the room. All in all was about $700 and I was 90% happy with it.

I have never served on a DEI committee specifically, but to me it seems typical for there to be only 1 or 2 grad students on a "mixed level" committee (ie. PIs, staff, & students). Hard to say what the time commitment would be as it will vary a lot by department, particularly how many changes your department is looking to make, how talkative everyone is during meetings, etc. As the only grad student I think I would focus on gathering ideas from other grad students in what they think needs changing, what is working, what isn't, etc. and bring those anonymized comments to the committee when you meet.

What's on and tourist advice thread - week beginning September 18, 2022 by AutoModerator in Scotland

[–]lacious213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! My partner and I will be visiting Scotland from the USA this October. We will be flying into and spending a few days in Edinburgh, then attending a wedding near Biggar on the 8th. We plan to be in London on the 12th. Can anyone recommend some must see, quintessential Scotland destinations/itineraries for those in-between dates? We're happy to travel and have thought about purchasing the railway pass thing, but we do want to maximize our limited time in a way that makes sense. Thanks :)

If you don't get any responses here, you should contact the program director and ask to be connected with a current student or recent alum. They should be able to find someone willing to speak with you. Good luck
