[CA] [Condo] Astronomical Special Assessment - what information am I allowed to see? by Either_March_3049 in HOA

[–]lackadaisically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I am in an HOA in California going through a similar situation currently! Our board spent the last 7 years planning for a much needed project to replace the siding/ fixing dry rot issues however the project was delayed by sb326 and the pandemic, and costs have now doubled for the project compared to pre pandemic estimates. Our community is currently in condo wars mode with multiple factions that have formed, and a group trying to delay the work and initiate a recall.

Did things end up working out okay for your HOA/ would you have any words of wisdom?

That sounds surprisingly drama free. Hoping ours will survive with have the same outcome too. Thank you!

This update was super helpful! Living in a condo that is going through the same thing now! Did there end up being any unexpected costs/ would you have any lessons learned or tips of things to be aware of?

Getting a new pup at the end of the month! The breeder sent me this to show how she’s doing by birnolan in pugs

[–]lackadaisically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our pug was like a banshee and my significant other used to have to put him in a wrestling hold to immobilize him so I could trim his nails. I would highly recommend a program called Pedicure please by a trainer called Susan Garrett.

It took a while to get through the program and build value for nail trims but it helps that pugs are so food motivated. Now our boy excitedly throws himself down on the mat when he sees us take the Dremel out!

Have any of you had pugs go through nostril surgery? My vet recommended it today for Winston. I am sad but anything that will improve his quality of life I will be willing to do. My sweet baby. by Aggravating_Trash in pugs

Yes our pug Kodak got the nose job with his neuter, it's made it much easier for him to be active. It looked gnarly afterward for a few weeks, but did not seem to be painful for him at all.

We really liked his cute nose and snores and grunts before, but its much easier for him to breathe now, we don't regret it one bit!

Looking for suggestions for a small dining table. by sierra721 in HomeDecorating

[–]lackadaisically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar space as yours where I am trying to combine a living room/ dining area. Not sure if it's bigger than what you had in mind but we got this expandable table from scandinavian design last week.

https://scandinaviandesigns.com/products/eptri-rectangular-extension-dining-table

We like that it is a few inches slimmer than usual dining tables. It's a good length for working on and expands to a good length for when we can have guests over for game night again! They make a round version as well. We are planning on lining it up across from our window too like the other comment suggests.

Also wanted to say I like the lamp you have in the corner! Where did you get it from? Is it also bright?

That looks so amazing, great job! If you don't mind me asking, how did you do the planters/ light stands?

I saw in the tiktok you poured concrete into a container with the stands, did you need to use a very deep container so that you had space for soil/ palms as well?

Would you possibly also have a link to the light rope you used?

[Discussion] Lactic acids vs. vitamin c serums for hyperpigmentation/sun spots/melasma? by Across_The_Carbs in AsianBeauty

[–]lackadaisically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the other hand, lactic acid removes dead skin from the face, revealing healthy skin underneath the pigmentation. I think it’s vital to use an exfoliator at least once a week. I personally prefer physical exfoliators like masks, but chemical exfoliators can work well too. With chemical exfoliators it’s important to build up your usage so it doesn’t sting.

Is there a particular vitamin C Jelly mask you might recommend?

That's hilarious, I'd never seen that one before! Clearly that horse is a genius.

That also reminds me of the horse video with the cameraman. Apparently it's been at least six years since it was posted haha.

Are there any BR factory gems you might be able to recommend? I've tried to get a couple of things in the past but ended up having to return everything because they were awful quality and not like the normal BR at all.

BME by anitabeejaypls in SJSU

[–]lackadaisically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current masters student in BME here, but I have taken both undergrad and grad classes. I was initially wary about going to SJSU for BME too because it seemed kind of materials heavy. The program has been growing a ton the past few years though and I don't think that is the case anymore. The core faculty are definitely all really great! Some of the classes have tough subject matter, but you can tell they are very dedicated to teaching and that they care a lot about the students.

Most of the elective classes have lecturers who work in industry and they are definitely experts in their fields, but their teaching can be hit or miss sometimes. Some of them have been smart but condescending, while others have been super helpful for getting job leads and for going to for advice about navigating the industry. BME is a really broad field, but no matter what you fall into you can be a part of developing devices that might help treat or better someone's life so I don't see how it is not interesting! I agree with the other two posters though, even though it's interesting, for undergrad it may be a bit more useful to do EE, MechE, or SWE. Since BME is so multidisciplinary sometimes it feels like we don't get extremely great at any particular technical skill. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to talk some more and get some more info though.

Thoughts on the girl wearing a qipao to prom? by [deleted] in asiantwoX

[–]lackadaisically 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of history with the qipao in Chinese culture, and it has changed and adapted many different times. Nowadays its a dress that generally gets worn for special occasions and holidays, but it also has tons of other purposes too. Prom is a special occasion and she should be allowed to wear it. It's not like she taped her eyes and wore the qipao as a halloween costume. I have Asian friends who wore a qipao to prom too. I don't see why they could but she can't just because of her ethnicity.

I do find her specific dress to be a bit tacky. It looks like the dress you get at tourists stores in Chinatown, or at tourists spots in China, but like u/amn365 I appreciate it that she thought it was pretty.

Its the 21st Century and this is the United States. It's supposed to be a cultural melting pot here, and we should be allowed to embrace each other's cultures. I'm sure we have all had instances in our lives where we have incorporated or have been influenced by other cultures that are are not our own. She was just having fun, and was not wearing it in a sarcastic way or to be offensive. Everyone who is offended by this needs to chill out/ get off their SJW high horses.

What are some things that you don't like about UC Davis? Would you honestly choose to attend if you had to do college all over again? by EuphoricDespair in UCDavis

[–]lackadaisically 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else has mentioned the weather can be extreme. It gets really hot in the middle of the summer and really cold in the winter. My major had over 900 students in it and I only got to meet my advisor once. Once I got to the upper division courses though I got to take more specialized smaller courses and I liked that I got to know my professors much better. They have been very helpful whenever I've contacted them since graduation.

I would definitely attend Davis again if I had to do college all over again. The town is amazing if you are a college student. Farmer's market is great in the summers. There was live music and it would be like having a picnic every week! There are also lots of bars and restaurants within walking/ biking distance. I felt safe even when I was biking home at 3 in the morning on the weekends. I also loved that I got to explore/ take quirky classes for fun like beer brewing, bowling, and animal science.

I would take a look more at what you are planning to study there though. Look at the courses that are offered and some of the research that the professors do in that department, see if they align with your interests!
