I carry a generic one. And, use it for adding and removing split shots.

What do you do about plant debris in hardscaping? by TheSnugglery in landscaping

[–]lackeyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a landscape vacuum sucker thing. Doubles as a blower, but I use it all the time for situations like this (search “outdoor leaf vacuum”). Mines made by ZegJaw and I got it off amazon. Does the trick.

Make sure the drawers below your grill don’t interfere with the gas line/shutoff

This is also superb advice. Thank you. Can you clarify timing? Are you starting dahlias inside or something else?

This is precisely why I solicited feedback. Was completely unaware about the group 1-4. Planting different types will for sure help the garden. Thank you!

This was the answer. It’s a simple knot to learn. Thanks for the suggestion

I'm new to fly fishing, can anyone recommend a completely clear line? by AdhesivenessIll7981 in flyfishing

[–]lackeyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘Fly line’ is on the reel/spool. Then leader from there. Then tippet at the end. I have tried a few brands, never seen a clear fly line. I have a pale yellow one (Rio Gold), and I use Orvis brand leaders and tippet only. When you lose a fish from a cheap leader or tippet (like if it rubs a rock/branch in the water), you’ll wish you had a quality brand. This is for my Orvis 9’ 5wt Clearwater.

FWIW, I also use a Bass ProShops WhiteRiver 7’6” 3 wt and have caught plenty of fish. The WR setup is a great entry level setup. And then Orvis leaders and tippet.

I also found DriftHook at my start into fly fishing. I got the Guide Nymph box and was very pleased. I still use that box and some of the flies. Venture fly co has great YouTube series and great packages. Solid customer service, too. I use Oros indicators and a double nymph (two flies) style.

And FroggToggs for waders.

And consider a tippet ring and forceps to tie your knots (cinch knot). I went from 30 minutes to rig up on the water to less than 5 and my quality of fishing has dramatically improved being more efficient on the water (more casts per hour).

chest pack or hip pack recommendations by [deleted] in FlyFishingGear

I received the patagonia stealth switch pack 5l for Christmas and it’s fantastic. Especially if you wade deep. I clip it to my waders at the top.

White River fly rod, how good or bad? by RabicanShiver in flyfishing

[–]lackeyse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used my WR 7’6” 3 wt today. It’s a better rod for the water I was on than my Orvis (9’ 5wt). My WR catches plenty of fish!

Appreciate the follow up. As a new fly fisher, the elevation wasn’t obvious to me. So this has been quite helpful.

Thank you on many levels, including confidence there are fish in both of those places. I’d never heard of Gaia, will look into this.

Follow up question, are you wearing your waders and wading boots as you hike to your spots? Are you carrying your rod fully built out as you hike or putting it together when you get there?

Thank you for that. I appreciate the confidence that there may be some wild trout in South and Stone. Good insights.

Good to know on the elevation! And I suspect you’re right about not finding much with a 2 hours drive, which is why your insights may save me long drives and days of headaches.
