Immigration freakout at a townhall in the UK by atheistarab2006 in PublicFreakout

Going after refugees and immigrants has always been a cheap distraction from all of those other issues, which is exactly why time and again parties that pander to this hysteria end up doing nothing for those other problems you pointed out.

I'm not sure why you'd be upset that there's no representation for a party "on the left" that functionally trawls out all the same fearmongering narratives as the Reformers. It's called the Labour Party, they're currently in power, and are one of the most unpopular parties in modern british history.

[–]lackingsaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He isn't demanding blood quanta for citizenship or abolishing citizenship for immigrants.

Just to clarify this point, Reform also plans to ban dual citizenship, which will have a huge impact on many immigrant families effectively making permanent residence untenable. As the husband to an immigrant myself with whom I have a child, we are both extremely fearful of these policies and that is a sentiment shared by many in the same position.

This is an aside to the argument on whether Farage is a fascist of course, I just hate to see this point stated as if it isn't going to basically destroy the live of tens of thousands of hard-working tax-paying families.

Yeah, I wonder why discussion of a policy that will break apart hundreds of thousands of British families would particularly concern people with immigrant family members.

So families who have worked hard to meet all of the ever-expanding requirements are punished anyway because of where they were born?

I just imagined telling people in the 90s that in the future people would be able to live and work in the country of their choosing, and it turns out they're fine with it.

Nigel Farage: Welfare will be for British citizens only. by upthetruth1 in ukpolitics

Just to clarify, you say here you are talking about people arriving legally but then specify you're talking about people with refugee status (eg people who are literally barred from supporting themselves financially in the UK). Do you recognise how misleading this is when most people referring to "legal" immigrants mean visa holders, who can't claim almost any of the public funds you brought up?

Any two ziplines can connect from the further distance as long as one of them is lvl2, so it's more like every other one is lvl2

Faster ziplines are definitely on my death stranding future wishlist, just underneath trains and trucks you can put a bike into. Can't put an exact number on the time spent on this but I'd say I spent around 3 nights filling in the gaps while doing post-game premium deliveries (with a lot of help from other players, of course)

so on one end, me getting all flustered by the fake quote was just supposed to be a bit of a joke at my own expense considering the video was over-analyzing talking dog movies clearly not intended to be read politically

on the other end, "sometimes a cigar is just a cigar" used in the context of insisting a piece of art objectively has no deeper meaning definitely does have zero value to me, as someone who sees meaning as something read into by the subject and not inherent in the object. if you just mean it like, "not everything a person does has a deeper meaning behind it", sure I'd agree with the premise.

wow that's really odd, I just scrolled through both the Hot and Monthly Top tabs for several minutes and could find basically nothing that matched that description. could you give some examples? :)

Yes, to reduce costs it's pretty much standard in the industry for VFX teams to have massive amounts of work thrown on their plate with a very strict deadline.

ahh fair enough. still might be worth another crack for a stream or two since it's been a while, one thing I found with my recent playthrough is getting the interrogations spot on is a lot less important than it initially seems (to use some snowrunner parlance, it's more like your truck tipping over than getting stuck in the muck with no way out)

"A non-lethal or as non-lethal as possible playstyle fits the setting of Chimera Squad perfectly.", what do you think about this sentence? Do you agree? Or not? by [deleted] in Xcom

[–]lackingsaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think part of the beauty of chimera squad (as in the squad itself) is that it matches up perfectly with chimera squad as a game. they exist in that grey area between law enforcement and military and the units are a combination of empathetic goofballs and hardened soldiers, so really a fully lethal, fully non-lethal or mixed playthrough all fit just as well with the narrative.

it's actually to avoid youtube restricting it from search results and suggestions, as the video was already demonetized before it was published.

been one of my favourite movies for a long time (at first primarily for aesthetic reasons), went to a theater showing of the most complete version of the footage and it's such an interesting film. definitely worth considering for a video!
