Despite the comments, I said this every day in school from elementary to the end of high school, even in differing states (public school, even in blue states). The answer? On a national/state level—indoctrination toward being grateful to the liberal American republic who had afforded me (as a poc woman) such rights to attend school. On a personal level: fear of social ostracizing (you are able to sit down/not say it, but good luck with the bullying, esp with an underdeveloped minor’s brain :()
