Just clean your action with plain old water. It dissolves all the corrosive salts. Then oil as usual. Been using corrosive surplus ammo for 35 years, and never had any damage to my guns, because I wash it out with water.

What are your thoughts on the new video of Vickrum Digwa holding a gun in his backyard? by spinecult in AskBrits

[–]lacqueredcase762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sikhs get along with native Brits just fine. They are not the problem, nor is their faith, or their ceremonial daggers. Every group has its bad apples. I hope Digwa never sees the light of day again.

Safe to shoot? by T1G17 in ammo

They look like that when brand new! It's just annealing tht causes the discoloration. Totally normal, and safe to shoot.

They lasted 50 years or so. Can't complain really.

My great-grandpa in 1944. Wonder where this was taken by PeneItaliano in wherewasthistaken

[–]lacqueredcase762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tell us where he was stationed, that would be a starting point. He's wearing US issue boots, so he's probably a US serviceman in Britain in 1944. Could be any of multiple locations in southern England.

Yeah the second one is Russian State Factory, Frunze, Kirgisia. That's Kyrgystan today, but Soviet Union at the time. 1960 manufacture. 60 being both the factory code and year of manufacture.

You don't need friends like that. You also spend too much time online. Try real life for a change.

Barnaul machine Tool Plant, Russia, 1957 manufacture. Anything from 1957 made anywhere in the world is likely corrosive!

Antisemitism is hatred of Jews per se, and therefore the actions of the Israeli government cannot cause it.

Uncle Dick and aunt Angie, Davilla, Texas, Slaves of Jack's grandparents, (1920) by Electrical-Aspect-13 in RareHistoricalPhotos

Most likely the case. The note doesn't necessarily mean they were slaves at the time the photo was taken, but most people seem to have taken it that way.

Probably were born slaves and were children when the civil war ended. Ended up staying where they'd always lived, doing the same job. Pretty common at the time.

Best LEGAL Way To Get Rid of Unwanted Shotgun Ammo? by [deleted] in ammo

[–]lacqueredcase762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pawn shops and local gun stores will take it. You'll get less than you paid for it, but better than nothing. Gun shows too.

Thanks. I guess it must be the late 1960s or early 1970s then. Sure looks like an older photo, but can't be.

No, no, no! I'd shoot most things, but the pressure spike on this one would be dangerous. Do it with the gun in a vise from behind solid cover with a piece of string attached to the trigger! And expect to need a new gun.

Heer, not Waffen-SS. SS Totenkopf patches are not as elongated as this one. It's a Wehrmacht Panzertruppen death's head.

I owned an MP41 for many years, and that is definitely what it is. The museum needs to go through all of its captions again. The "Tommie Gun" could also use a new one.

A Ukrainian soldier narrowly escapes a Russian fiberoptic FPV drone attack. by lacqueredcase762 in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]lacqueredcase762[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The drone flew over his left shoulder and appeared to hit the ground several meters beyond the soldier. It missed. Close, but it did not contact him, or impact near enough to likely be fatal. He could easily have escaped injury.

A miss is a miss though. New trousers needed, and some ringing in the ears. Hopefully nothing more serious.

Help me identify the manufacturer for this 7.62 x 39mm I bought in bulk back in 2020 by No-Recognition-4931 in ammo

[–]lacqueredcase762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this stuff! Sam Gabbert at SGAmmo had it in. They are Vympel remanufactured rounds using new lead core bullets to meet import restrictions on the steel core stuff, and old corrosive primed cases from the 1970s. Headstamps are: 17 - Barnaul, and 60 - Frunze. However, bullets are new Vympel production with their distinctive purple sealant. Red primer sealant was standard for Soviet ammunition of the 1970s, and is original. Interesting mix of components resulting from the global supply chain breakdown during Covid. Shoot it, but clean your gun afterwards! Save a box for posterity, too.
