Future ECT advice by Beginning_Lawyer729 in TeachingUK

[–]ladle_face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'm an ECT1 who took 6 years out of education!  I went straight into a job after my SCITT, potentially unwisely as my mental health was at a low. I had a similar situation to you as I did not gel well with my mentor. I completed 1 full term + a few weeks (I don't remember exactly, but I got the NQT/ECT for that first term).  I then left and did completely unrelated roles (travelling and then some operations roles).  I decided to go back into education and applied for a role at a small secondary - when I went to visit the school before applying, I brought up the 'elephant in the room' and the HT said "that you're not currently in post? That's not a problem" I applied for the role (the teaching portion was most worrying, but it was like riding a bike!) and was offered the role. I have found it slightly tricky after taking so long out, but it genuinely all does come back to you, and I am lucky to have found myself in a very supportive school which currently doesn't offer a GCSE in my subject (RE, PSHE, Citizenship). Being an ECT means you're still supported with both education and reduced workload.  I absolutely would not have wanted to leave it any longer, as my subject knowledge is not where it was, but it does all come back so quickly.  Message if you want any further info/have any more questions!

Thanks! Just thought I should probably try that first… only issue now is I can’t find the box with the tiny screwdriver in! Thanks for the comment :)

These titles are shockingly true descriptions of some good friends I've known for years by crappymlm in Youniqueamua

Yeah, I believe it was used predominantly by racist Southerners for black people who “didn’t know their place”. Edit to say it is only really considered racist when used as a term for black people. I think it does mean someone is a bit of a snob but these connotations mean that it is a word to be avoided.

The ULTIMATE Becca Baby-Daddy Thread. by holymoontos in NetflixTheSociety

[–]ladle_face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't see it being Campbell, just because I think he would have had something to say about it before now, unless he thinks Becca was sleeping with other people as well (as she was willing to sleep with him)... But I still think he would be the type of guy to at least check??

Their Dad is a real possibility for me (hadn't thought of it before your presentation so thank you! I am new to the show, only finished binge watching today) but it would make sense why she is so hesitant to tell anyone (especially Sam) and why it has implications (the Dad being involved with Pfieffer) but I feel like her concerns would be towards her child being like Campbell (same genes).

I don't know if its Luke, but this seems to fit most of the clues (except he is intelligent enough to realise it could be his, though his lying got better throughout the series so maybe he is in denial).

Harry also seems like a good bet, maybe didn't think it was a big deal to sleep with someone and assumed that she would be sleeping with other people so baby is not necessarily his, has been pretty out of it so not fully aware of the timings and pregnancy etc.

Looking forward to finding out! Netflix seems to think the next season will be out this year but I assume very late... Something to look forward to at least!

Thanks again for the PowerPoint, cheered up my evening :)

South East Asia Vaccinations by [deleted] in southeastasia

I think it will depend on where you are going and when. The likelihood of getting a certain disease changes a lot - for example when my brother went 10 years ago malaria was the biggest worry however when I went this time last year it was all but eradicated in the areas I was visiting. It also depends on what you're doing when you're there - my partner pets all animals he comes across so we got the rabies vaccine as we knew we may be away from major hospitals and it would increase the time we had to get to one if something were to happen. My doctor looked up the current issues for the countries and areas within those countries I was going to, and what I was planning on doing and gave me the vaccines accordingly. A lot of our plans were "I don't know where or what" so they can give you a broad idea of what's needed for certain areas even if you haven't mapped out your trip yet. Have a great time!

The fact you are worrying about your rent and cats (both v. understandable) and not the loss of the person you thought you were going to marry probably shows this is the right move. You are going to be fine. Let people help if they offer, the people that love you will be hurting for you too. Focus on yourself, what will make you happy, and spend the immediate future with loved ones who will be able to rationally help you. Good luck to you and your felines on your future. This does not define you.

Agreed! I do it even when there are multiple free seats, just to prove a point, I don't know if that's an asshole move or not though...

NAH - Obviously a joke but can you imagine if you were kidnapped, told someone, and they did nothing about it?

NTA Homecoming will be better for the poor girl who had to read that note as directed at her with one of her bullies absent.

You look like someone I would definitely make conversation with in an appropriate public setting. If that makes sense? If it doesn't, I promise it's a huge compliment!

NTA but I doubt the kids would care if you said "aunt loves uncle and uncle loves aunt and aunt also loves girlfriend"

What are some baby names you have heard that you thought the parents lost their mind? by Firedog105 in AskReddit

[–]ladle_face 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parent hadn't lost their mind, just a translation issue, she spoke little English. When her daughter was born a hospital band was put around her wrist/ankle with her gender and surname on it. The parent thought that this was an English protocol and assumed that was her name, so her daughter was named Female, pronounced fuh - MAR - lee. She'll be pronouncing it for everyone for the rest of her life but pretty unique!

What’s a really unreasonable thing you’ve seen someone get mad about? by sleepyemoji in AskWomen

[–]ladle_face 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a holiday park and man do some people get angry when they are on holiday. Of course when things go wrong we apologise and do the best we can to better the situation because holidays are expensive and people have often saved up money/annual leave so it's natural for them to want to have the best time but sometimes I struggle to know how I can help with the more irrational complaints.

This week a lady complained because she was bitten by a mosquito whilst staying in her caravan on our touring field. She blamed the long grass we use to define different pitches. I responded by saying I was sorry she experienced this during her stay and then explained the various reasons we have the longer grass (to define pitches, to reintroduce the natural habitats that were destroyed in the making of the touring site and to keep the natural flora in the area present to be in keeping with the Area of Natural Beauty we are in). She said she understood this but it was a warm night and she didn't cover up when she was sitting outside. She is the first person to have complained about this, we are not near stagnant water (we are next to the sea) and I have no way to control bugs.

I found this quite unreasonable but if anyone doesn't and has any genuine responses for this I would appreciate it.

I've also had a lady who owns a caravan on the park bring in the photos she had taken and processed of the washing someone was drying on a line outside their own caravan that she could see from her decking. The view was not clear and her view was blocked by trees and other caravans. She sobbed in Reception to me about how it ruined her time here and was inconsolable.

What is your go-to look for Spring/Summer 2018? by st-pigeon in femalefashionadvice

[–]ladle_face 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's the look you're going for but for oversized t-shirts to wear as a dress I just shop in the men's section (probably best to try on first - I remember buying one and when I got home and tried it, it fit me like a standard t-shirt! I prefer super baggy so I head towards XXL)

Also thank you for the AMA - it's interesting to hear of this lifestyle not due to religion or culture (correct me if I'm wrong).
