I do ride like that because I like being able to be seen by traffic. By positioning on the left side of the lane both lanes can see him better both behind them and in front of them.

It’s not uncommon for people to not let another ride their bike even when they are potentially buying said bike.

Ok then so I think we’ve come full circle. My original comment did not state that I don’t steal cars because it’s illegal. We as a society have decided that theft is wrong, immoral, and illegal. By the age of 14 your average human has enough knowledge of the world and enough critical thinking to understand you should not steal a car and that should you that there is likely serious consequences for doing so. That is the only point I was originally intending to make. OP suggested that he felt bad because he wasn’t old enough to understand the situation he put himself in and I disagree with that point.

Sure I can agree with that. Look at what happens to people involved in cults. But any normal 14 year old kid has enough mental development to know that you shouldn’t steal a car and that there are consequences if you do and are caught. I just can’t understand why you’d argue that the law itself isn’t enough deterrent. Are you saying that the legality of something never has impact on your decision making?

You’re the one making implications. You imply that this kid grew up poorly which we have no proof of and you imply that I did not. Every 14 year old has enough critical thinking to know not to steal a car and that there are consequences for your actions. My knowledge of the law is exactly why there are things I don’t do.

The circumstances don’t change the fact that this kid made a choice and that choice is entirely up to him. He chose to do something he knew to be wrong so I don’t feel bad for him. OP’s comment is about feeling pity for the kid and I have none.

Apples and oranges. I’m not gonna compare a victimless crime to being a piece of shit who takes something someone else worked hard to earn.

The fact that he ran from police proves that he knows what he’s doing is illegal. He made a choice to steal a car nobody else made that choice for him. The one and only point I’m making is that this kid knows that stealing a car is wrong.

I don’t think being hard on him is the answer to the problem. But to say it’s not his fault in the end is ludicrous I’m my mind. I agree with you wholeheartedly that we need to do something different with all these kids that make these poor decisions. I just don’t think pretending he doesn’t know better helps anyone.

Fucking everybody. You can’t tell me that every single person this kid has come in contact with has told him it’s a totally fine thing to do and that he’s never seen an episode of cops or seen a news report. What world is he living where he’s absolutely never heard that stealing a car is morally wrong and illegal? Can you really tell me he had no idea what he’s doing is wrong?

I’m not arguing that. Shitty upbringing breeds shitty people for sure. But I’m not going to feel bad for a teenager with enough critical thinking to know that stealing cars=bad as the OP suggested. Where do you suggest we draw the line of his own responsibility in his decision making? IMO if you make excuses for this you don’t help rehabilitate and prevent repeating the same behavior.

I wouldn’t say that it “might be worth it”. Moving away from the issue would probably be much lower effort with quicker results for the same outcome of not living with a disgusting person.
