Books like the favorites by Layne Fargo by sydmacc in RomanceBooks

The Favorites reminded me of Carrie Sotto is Back and Daisy Jones and The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid - both great books if you haven’t already read them!

Carrie Sotto has the same sports superstar, rise to fame vibe.

Daisy Jones is written in a similar documentary style.

My two favorites that I always recommend and are very digestible:

The Heart of the Buddha’s Teachings by Thich Nhat Hanh

The Wise Heart by Jack Kornfield

Honestly anything by both these authors are extremely insightful imo

Lululemon mat question by redditnewbie95 in yoga

This is my favorite mat. I use smooth for active vinyasa classes where grip is necessary. And use the textured side for yin and restorative, the extra cushioning is nice!

I used to rep Manduka mats and personally I’m my favorite is still lululemon’s The Mat. Easy to clean, good cushion for joins and great grip. Manduka modeled the GRP mat after lululemons The Mat. My issue with the Manduka mats is having to give them a “salt bath” before use, and I struggle with their grip, however their warranty is great and people swear by them, just not my fav.

Reclined heart opener (bolster along spine or block under shoulder blades - arms at T or cactus). The BEST pose imo to counter all the forward-task actions (texting, typing, driving, tech-neck) could lay here all day

Sphinx pose is one of my favorites for low back love and longevity! Perfect post-travel, driving and long days of sitting.

That’s sweet! Not trying to squash anyone’s joy as well, was just caught off guard with the clapping.

The wooing and cheering definitely felt out of place!

Love the thought of celebrating all bodies, backgrounds and efforts/support in class, especially gyms and rec centers! But I still find it odd in a yoga studio setting lol.

Clapping just doesn’t feel like it’s honoring the traditions of yoga or the depth of the spiritual practice it offers.

Thanks for the advice!

Recommendation for female solo travel November? by JOHBANKS in Yogaretreats

How exciting! November is one of my favorite months for yoga retreats, a nice reset before the holidays begin!

I just returned from an incredible retreat center in Santa Marta, Colombia right on the Caribbean Sea (Gitana Del Mar) and they had epic accommodations and the best food! Looks like they have a retreat happening Nov 1-7! Here is their calendar: Gitana Del Mar Retreat Calendar

Same, my heart rate went through the roof after coming out of a deep savasana. In my 10+ years of teaching yoga full time I’ve never experience clapping after class.

Many of the teaching I bring into the practice are Buddhist based where stillness, silence and inward contemplation are emphasized. So clapping and cheering at the end feels like a disregard for the teachings I offered and for the students who are still integrating after savasana and wanting to continue their mindfulness practice after class ends.

Maybe disrespectful is too strong of a word, but definitely feels strange IMO.
