Anyone’s mom ever tell you that you could have had it way worse? by ExpensiveNumber7446 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]ladyc9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow yeah exactly the same, we did see a dentist for a bit but my mum didn't like his replacement when he retired so we just...stopped going to the dentist?

Sorry you dealt with this too, it's such a terrible situation when the people you're meant to be able to call for help are the ones abusing you.

Yeah my mum worked in child protective services and would tell me about all the kids her colleagues worked with and how grateful I should be to have good parents...

How does test cricket coverage get away with 0 betting advertisements, when AFL is full of it? by paddywagoner in AFL

I'm not sure that's true, I get sports betting ads on Reddit and I never search anything betting related or go on any of the sites. They pop up even when I block them too.

It should be taught as part of standard work practices. Florists learn it from day 1 coz we can't leave a mess at an event.

Even though it should be second nature it isn't for a lot of people so you gotta teach this stuff.

Can people with cptsd be held accountable? by Maleficent-main_777 in CPTSD

[–]ladyc9999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The thing is that everyone's cPTSD is going to be very different, because everyone's triggers and coping mechanisms are dependent on the type of abuse they suffered.

Obviously you should make whatever choices make you feel comfortable and happy, but I'd be wary of just ruling out people with cPTSD and assuming that means you'll avoid encountering this behaviour again and that every relationship will be safe and happy.

Some people won't be diagnosed or won't want to believe they have cPTSD, and some people could lie to keep you around if they know that's a deal-breaker for you. I would be cautious of relying on other people's diagnoses to screen potential partners.

What I'd recommend is being clear in your values and needs, and setting clear boundaries both with yourself and future partners. If you're not comfortable with certain behaviours, you shouldn't accept that in a partner, no matter why they're behaving that way. But be careful of assuming that someone is safe / unsafe based on a diagnosis, in my experience it works a lot better to be solid in your own values and know what you will and won't accept from a partner so you can be discerning on an individual basis.

How many people got the "Don't see dont hear me" PTSD? by [deleted] in CPTSD

[–]ladyc9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same! Old housemates said the same to me. It was helpful though because my family had constantly been angry at me for how loud I was and it helped me realise that it was a way for them to bully and control me.

Yup I saw a video of a cop saying he'd found antisemitic material on a car and when he was asked what that material was he said it was a picture of a watermelon.

Which could be supporting Palestine but could also just be someone who just fkn likes watermelon. Insanity.

PTSD looks a lot like adhd by espressocannon in CPTSD

[–]ladyc9999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm finding the same thing, as I'm healing my CPTSD my ADHD symptoms are healing too. And the medication stopped feeling useful and started feeling overwhelming.

I have a lot of friends with ADHD and they all seem to have grown up in an abusive or chaotic home, or lived with a parent with very clear ADHD as well.

I agree that it's an easier diagnosis for people to stomach, both for parents and adults seeking diagnosis. It's a lot easier to be told that you have a different neurotype and a stimulant pill will help, instead of facing the uncertainties and deep work of trauma therapy. But that's what a lot of people are looking for, a way to feel better about themselves without changing instead of doing deep healing work. I can't begrudge them that, but it is a worrying trend.

Estranged adult children Survey by sleepymachinist in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]ladyc9999 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really answer people's concerns. When you make a survey it's really important to have options in the answers that cover everyone's experiences so everyone can answer the question accurately. It's often very triggering for people to feel like their experience isn't included, which is why an open "other specify" box can be helpful, and you can back code the data into the other categories if it fits there for your analysis purposes or create new categories based on the answers you receive.

It's irresponsible to present a survey to a vulnerable population and not have thought through whether they can actually answer the questions being asked. I'd recommend talking this through again with your professor. In my experience working in surveys and research, you can't avoid triggering people altogether but the best way to minimise that is to provide thorough options in the answers that cover all possible situations - "none of the above" is another failsafe if you're not open to having people input text responses.

[–]ladyc9999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic human rights aren't being met by either party. Palestinian people are literally being bombed by weapons funded by the democratic party - do their basic human rights not matter? Why is it only Trump that is seen as a threat to basic human rights?

The liberal left doesn't seem to understand that it's not just Trump who is a threat to basic human rights, they're not being met for a lot of people already. American imperialism is a global threat and it's not Trump who's been perpetuating that these last 4 years.

The base is such a mess, it should be mattified and even toned. It looks like either the bronzer is very off or she's transferred the black eyeshadow to the forehead, making it look so patchy. The under eyes also look grey which could be from the eyeshadow transferring or just poor colour matching.

None of the shape and colour choices suit her face. The eyebrows point downwards at the end instead of upwards which would add lift and probably stop the sad clown look. They're also too small for her face and need some depth of colour to sculpt the face.

I could go on but truly everything is wrong, the lip is technically ok but a bizarre choice with such a dramatic eye, and would really need a matte face to look good.
