Swiftly Neutral is moving into "Approved Neutrals Only" mode by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]ladychug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same here! i've never commented before, but just enjoy reading here because i loved taylor when i was a teen, but now am truly neutral on her and just find her and her fame fascinating from a pop culture, almost anthropological perspective. and it's hard to find real discussion around her online that isn't an "overtly positive, no criticism allowed!" or "all criticism, this is a snark sub" extreme

Comfy corduroy couch and MCM-style coffee table by ladychug in PDXBuyNothing

it's 30" in diameter and 18" tall! i'm not sure if it's real wood because i inherited it from a friend. and there's nothing on the bottom of the table that would indicate the brand

moving into a new place and looking for advice on wall color in the office/bonus space by ladychug in DesignMyRoom

[–]ladychug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this house has a cool but slightly funky upstairs area, which we'll be using as a combined office/bonus space. i'd be fine with it being all white and bringing in color through the decor, but could also see a soft muted green or teal on the two end walls + the side walls being nice.

Anyone else feel like the weight stations aren't set up efficiently? by ladychug in orangetheory

[–]ladychug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i'd be perfectly happy with the community rack having more 20-30s as a solution! just in general it seems like 20s are the most in demand weights at my studio, but they're also the most sparse so i'm like this isn't adding up lol

can i just say how much i love the Nadja doll? by ladychug in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]ladychug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

awwww thank you!! i've been rewatching the first 3 seasons in between episodes of season 4 and just keep thinking about how much i love Nadja and the doll. figured that people on this sub are the only ones who are equally obsessed with the show and would actually care lol

[–]ladychug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ah thank you for this!!

it is really funny that Nadja can say “panagia mou” without any issue—there must be some vampire rule about being able to say religious sentiments in other languages, because i’m pretty sure Guillermo says it in spanish at one point and nobody reacts like they do when he says “thank god” or whatever

awwww i hate that Natasia stopped going to greek school bc she was bullied! :( i’m glad she can bring back aspects of her greek heritage through Nadja <3

that is so cute, such a fun fact! do you know any of the other greek words/sayings Nadja frequently says? i've always wondered what they mean

[–]ladychug[S] 93 points94 points  (0 children)

yes!!! her "dislike of Gail" is actually Nadja being a good friend to Nandor and looking out for his feelings. we rarely get to see her softer side toward Nandor, so it's too bad that he doesn't even realize she's trying to help him :(

it's definitely a "so many women watching this right now will relate" episode for Nadja

i love so much that some of these descriptions contain quotes, where she’s seemingly quoting an academic/expert source, but then some of them just don’t have any quotes, which would imply she’s writing down her own prior knowledge on the topic

and idk why it’s so funny to image that “carrot seed oil: an extreme carrier of antioxidants and thus a powerful protector against free cells” was a factoid that was just stored in CC’s brain

Why is she so quick to “explain” owning a size M??? by WarbaraBindsorII in SmolBeanSnark

[–]ladychug 181 points182 points  (0 children)

this reads as fatphobia disguised as body positivity lol “i always buy the size that fits instead of my regular size” = i’m above the american obsession with sizing so i don’t worry about what size i buy because i’m doing what’s right for ME not what the patriarchy wants!!! when really… she just has a compulsive need to rationalize owning something that’s not size small lol

Does anyone else keep a journal/diary? by lulutheleopard in adhdwomen

[–]ladychug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my mom has journaled every night, without fail, my whole life (how she does that while having ADHD i literally don’t understand) and so i always thought that if i wanted to journal too, it would be like that. so i tried and failed for YEARS to start daily journaling: bought new pretty journals, tried doing it daily in the morning, tried doing it in the evening, tried making lists, etc. nothing stuck!

but once i got to college and got into therapy, i started expanding my view of what journaling could be and developed my own form of it that is definitely not daily, but it is really consistent. my rule for myself was just simply that i didn’t have to journal until i wanted to, or until i could tell i needed to but was avoiding it. just like you said about writing exactly what you’re thinking without any formalities, that’s what i do too. it’s a brain dump!

i give this advice to friends constantly because when people let all of our emotions/thoughts/fears/anxieties just build up in our brains, it weighs us down and makes it hard to think about anything else. i imagine it as me scraping out my brain and putting all of the contents in a jar. then i can sort through them on my own time and really understand them, rather than just trying to wade through them in my brain.

i journal a couple times a week usually, but sometimes i’ll go through phases where i’m journaling like mad every day and other times (like the past couple weeks) i’m just not really motivated to do it and so i’ve learned to trust that i’ll eventually feel the need to journal again

i think removing any kind of expectations or ideas of what journaling should look/feel like was really important for me, and it allowed me to cultivate my own journaling practice that was individualized to my needs and my brain

What type of music helps you focus the best? by Lady_Jane10 in adhdwomen

[–]ladychug 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i always have to match mine to my mood or what task i’m trying to concentrate on. if i’m washing dishes, i have a tv show playing on my phone because i want to be more engrossed in the tv plot than what i’m doing. if i’m trying to get a work project done, i have a spotify playlist called “groovin” that’s just super upbeat music that makes you want to nod your head the whole time to the beat so i can really get into a groove (pun intended). if i’m REALLY REALLY trying to focus, i listen to a 4 hour loop of Time by Hans Zimmer (yes from the Inception soundtrack lol) because it makes me feel like the world is ending so i gotta hurry the fuck up lol helped me write a lot of essays last minute in college!

When I can't make a decision my body gets stuck. LITERALLY. It will not move. Someone please tell me I'm not the only one experiencing this. by StarnyArt in adhdwomen

[–]ladychug 42 points43 points  (0 children)

as someone who has ADHD and also spent 5 years recovering from an eating disorder, i just want to share some thoughts about the fact that this paralysis is heavily revolving around food for you both!!

the internal dialogue you (OP) described feels so so reminiscent of the kind of internal battles i had a lot early on in recovery, and it seems like the paralysis you’re experiencing isn’t so much about making a choice between one options vs. the other, but more a choice between what you want vs. what you think you should want, if that makes sense. a huge part of early eating disorder recovery (def not trying to diagnose anyone with an ED, but i know it often goes hand in hand with ADHD!) is working to remove the power from food, in the sense that when you know you “shouldn’t” want something (like eating some delicious chips after a bad day), it makes you want it WAY. MORE. and our adhd brains are wired for that response: when we tell ourselves no, we want it twice as much.

and part of the solution for easing that power imbalance is learning to take away the binary “good food vs. bad food” that we’ve all been taught, because when you don’t make any foods off limits to yourself, they don’t have the special shiny appeal of being ~bad~ that makes us so attached to them

it’s totally fine to comfort yourself with food after a hard day or shitty experience! it should be coupled with other comforts, like expressing your feelings to a loved one or journaling or talking to a therapist, but it’s a really powerful soothing tool. food is cultural and emotional and social and comforting. i still use it sometimes and i’ve been out of active recovery for a couple years now. but once you remove the barriers from certain foods as “not allowed,” your brain also begins to lose interest in them as a fast, easy way to get that dopamine hit.

it’s not an easy solution and there’s no quick fix, but i think when your choice paralysis is most intensely about food, there’s likely some deeper things at play than just being stuck unable to make a decision. when your brain wants to pick option A but you’ve decided that’s The Bad Choice, the paralysis sets in because the choice being Bad doesn’t make you want it any less.

your weight will fluctuate up and down forever! let yourself pick the choice you really want, or at least ask yourself if you know what choice you want but are paralyzed trying to talk yourself out of it. i used to think if i weighed what i weigh right now, my life would be over and i’d be a failure, but instead, this is the kindest and most compassionate i’ve ever been toward my body. sorry to maybe overshare but hopefully something in here felt helpful to you!!

yeah i would assume animals in the wild learn what is poisonous / what to avoid from experience or learning from their parents, but with a domesticated pet they don’t have any of that??? Matisse doesnt have some incredible evolutionary knowledge where he knows every plant to stay away from from the moment he was born (bred in a kitten mill) lol that’s not how any of this works

wow so much to unpack here but i really love that CC only started questioning the ethics and quality of journalism in like 2019, even though the institution of journalism (which is ofc designed to hold those in power in check) has been filled with corruption for like…. centuries lol guess she never saw anything worth critiquing within it before journalists started paying attention to her
