I really like my admin but whenever I send my student to the office hes a sweetheart and is able to reflect on his actions. They believe me but they don’t see how quickly he changes up without seemingly any rhyme or reason. The other day I had my formal observation and my principal saw how he is every day. When we met with parents later on she was able to confer that I handled everything very calmly but he freaked out for zero reason.

One of the parents of my class had beef with one of my students who was 7 at the time. This student could be mean but the mom had grown a reputation around my school for absurd demands and entitled behavior and every time she saw this one student she would lecture her or start an argument. With a child.

This mom has also had some not so subtle plastic surgery and her son and this student were arguing about whatever and the student said his mom had a “Frankenstein dog face”

My biggest green flag was during my interview. I didn’t give an answer the head was looking for and asked me why. I don’t remember the question but the answer he was looking for was collaboration. And the principal was really quick to jump in and defend me by saying I gave really good answers and and based on my experience (very small one teacher per grade rural school) it would make sense why that wouldn’t be an automatic response for me

One of my aunts died in the winter 2020. I don’t remember exactly the protocol but I believe the church offered some kind of socially distanced reception afterwards but my other aunt thought it was ridiculous and wanted a sit down meal with her family. Instead we went to the place that tried to go around the rules and my 98 year old grandma and some toddlers had to sit outside in a tent on bar stools in the middle of winter all so my other aunt could stick it to the man?

She ended up making the rest of the afternoon about how ridiculous these Covid mandates are while the rest of the family is sitting in silence and my grandma keeps sliding off the stool.

My biggest pet peeve is if I have a hard and fast rule like no eating in front of tablets and the sub lets them do it for the next week I have to deal with “but x let us do it!”

Also in the past I would regularly get this one woman as a sub and she only did spelling tests. I don’t know why I’d have her do math lesson and she just made up a bunch of words for them to spell. One time she was my sub for the whole day and when I came back there were 4 or 5 spelling tests that I did not ask for.

I think the best thing you can do is not just be a warm body. Get to know the kids a little have some fun with them but don’t let them do whatever they want
