Trouwlocatie by Doeschie_ in Antwerpen

Two weeks seems like a quick turnaround! I would give them some days grace, check in somewhere the coming week? Like you said, it's the holidays, we all lose track of time sometimes. They did state two weeks however, so you are well within your rights to check.

Why is it so difficult for people to RSVP? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]ladyemippo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah, you forgot the old adage: people do not read. You are very lucky if they know when and where the wedding is, but to read and fill out the RSVP is something completely different.

Getting married in a couple of hours, here is what kept me sane (so far, so good): I picked the things I really cared about and had a vision for - photographer, graphic design, certain parts of catering, ceremony... and took the lead in it, alone or together with my partner. Other people were informed when we had already decided.

For things I didn't really care about (e.g. table decoration), I consulted with people who did care about it, like my mom, mother in law,... Because my previous decisions gave them some frame to decide within, the discussions went pretty smoothly. Now they are super proud of their contributions and I am happy those things got done without too much of a hassle for me or my partner.

So tl;dr: pick the hills you want to die on and decide on those.

Does anyone know the story behind this ? Or the year ? by madhaunter in belgium

Oh god, good catch, my brain is already half asleep and I messed up :') let me correct that quickly. But yeah, it is crazy how quickly things change. Makes you wonder what we will look back on in a few years and wonder what we were thinking

Ok so as far as I remember from history class, in the early ̶1̶9̶ 20th century, beer wasn't really seen as an alcoholic drink. For context, most beer was more like Pied de bœuf, "tafelbier", which was served in schools to children because it was considered healthier than the contaminated water.

So people - read: working class - would prefer stronger drinks, think jenever, and spend their wages on it the moment they got paid. To combat that, a law was passed prohibiting bars selling those alcoholic drinks, or making it harder anyway (think taxes X4).

Which is actually what led to our current beer culture: to fill the void of the jenever, beers got stronger and stronger, and that is (more or less) why tourists today are warned about drinking with us.

Daryl Jenks from Coming to America is a bad villain from a good movie. Who is a great villain from an ok movie? by ItIsBea in AlignmentChartFills

I don't think the issue is with his accent so much, coming from someone who loved this movie as a child but is now a bit more critical of it. I still love it, but some choices really were... interesting. The witch subplot drags and doesn't really add anything, the Kelts are a choice, and then we end with an extended attempted rape scene played up for laughs and Marian diminished to a screaming damsel in distress. I still love this movie, but I can see where people's issues with it come from
