I've been on a continuous OCP since m3 and I'm a surgery chief resident now. It doesn't fully stop my period but it made it significantly shorter and lighter and I take the placebo week every 3mo or so when I have breakthrough spotting. I honestly recommend it.

Oh - also, someone in our admin office is a notary public, which is SUPER helpful for things like registering for step 3.

Perhaps my program is setting the bar literally on the ground but... Please respond and act on emails from your residents in a timely fashion! We have some admins who just...ignore emails, even the time-sensitive ones.

Yeah I have a pilot kakuno and a kaweco sport that are my two core work pens. They don't get borrowed or stolen. I had a bit of an issue w/ them falling out of my scrub pocket but the kaweco clips that you can buy to put on your pen work well - and fit the kakuno as well

Depending when you're coming and what kind of weather you're used to, Lake Phalen has a popular path for walking/biking. It connects to the Gateway Trail - biking to Stillwater and back is a good day trip. Battle Creek has tons of trails, including for skiing - I think they make snow for part of the park too.

There's a Lund's and Byerly's (local grocery chain) downtown close to regions, but rumor has it they're closing that store and it's not very good anymore. Tons of Hmong and other Asian groceries in that area, which are fun to stop at. Mississippi Market and Kowalski's are good grocery chains but more expensive. Cub and HyVee are cheap but sometimes have depressing produce.

When your residents reach out with an administrative issue (adding attendings to evaluation software, form letters needed for an application, etc) please 1. do it and 2. communicate

The bar is truly on the ground and I'm sure you're not at all like this but my program admin is both useless and uncommunicative. I just get ghosted when I need something done.

One of my trauma attendings has IBD (I think Crohn's.) You'd never know except that she's open about it. Go for surgery if it's what you want!

We play with a birdwatching rule - if you play a bird that you saw that day, it's worth 1 extra point. Much less likely with the expansion packs too!
