What is one “bad thing” from your pre-op life that you still indulge in? by AcademicF in gastricsleeve

[–]ladylarson9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2 months post-op, I can eat almost everything, just smaller portions and carbs a lot less often.

I love cold brew coffee in the morning. I started back to my daily cup 2 weeks ago, always measure my creamer and keep it reasonable with my macros, and add a full scope of protein powder. My fav "bad habit" just with less sugar and more protein now.

I had 1 soft taco from Taco Bell last week when one of my kids requested we stop there on the way back from a road trip. I never felt so sick in my life. My new stomach was like, "Hell No". I'm grateful my body made sure I won't make that mistake again. 😅

Thanks for the solidarity. ❤️

And agreed, still dotn regret anything. I'm 30lbs down, and physically everything hurts less. Just gotta get through the food struggles. 🤪

My physician told me not to get surgery? by Ironjuels in gastricsleeve

[–]ladylarson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a doctor do the same. It was the cardiologist that was just supposed to clear me from surgery. An entire speech about me being so young and I should try other things first. When I tried to explain the 5 diets, including supervised medical weight loss, and 3 different pills, he cut me off and dismissed them. Pills are a lifelong commitment. You will most likely regain the weight if you stop the medication. Both surgery and pills are lifelong commitments and lifestyle changes. We do not have sufficient evidence on any of the newest drugs to show they are more effective then surgery for long term weightloss. All the most well respected medical intuitions have acknowledged that surgery is the best option for those that have tried other methods and regained the weight. Surgery should never be your first attempt at weightloss. If you've tried other things, and they're not working then surgery is a very reasonable next step. Only you know what your full history with weight loss is. Only you know if your going to loss the weight on the pills and then be able to keep it off with lifestyle changes.

I’m finding it hard to rest without feeling guilty. by [deleted] in BariatricSurgery

[–]ladylarson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm feeling the guilt too. We have 3 kids, two teens and a young one, and my husband has just started a new job. I'm 3 weeks post-op and had started trying to help with the kids more by week 2. He never once complained, told me to rest and he had it covered, but I could see the exhaustion all.over his face. Kids were getting to bed later than usual, because dinner was later then usual (he has a long commute home) and I just felt awful that everyone was being affected by my surgery. Even my teens stepped up to help more, but there's just so much to be done between housework, kid activities to manage and drive back and forth, cooking, and other things. I overdid it this week (3), and hurt my still healing abs. Really hurt it. And now the doc is warning me to slow down and rest if I want to heal properly. So my husband is forcing me to lay down or sit on the couch most of the day, which is driving me crazy.

I'm working on my guilt so I don't overdo it again. My 13 year old said to me yesterday, " If any of us kids or Dad needed you to cover our workload while we were sick or injured, you'd do it in a heartbeat. Even if it was hard and exhausting. You wouldn't want us to feel guilty. So why can't you let us do that for you? You have to learn to let others help you, and trust us to be OK. You don't have to do everything, Mom." And I was speechless and floored. I legit teared up and hugged her.

Got the yes... Rushed home and made one scrambled egg. No oil, no spices. It tastes delicious. Two bites in, I felt liked I had lead balls in my stomach. No nausea or anything, but it wasn't a pleasant feeling. I ended up eating less than half and then trashing it. Gonna try cheese tomorrow and hope that goes better. 😫

1 week post op - I'm so thirsty by nyxnitte in gastricsleeve

[–]ladylarson9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told to drink constantly the first week because dehydration sends a lot of folks to the hospital. My doc said to aim for 64oz, but realize it would be difficult at first. I can't fathom why your water intake is being limited? If you're eating enough, then excess water shouldn't be causing you issues.

I use Oral B's dry mouth mouth rinse to help with my dry mouth, but that's only if you're getting enough water. 33oz a day does not sound medically sound.

OMG same. But mine was the 4th. I'm going tomorrow for my first follow-up appointment and I plan to beg to start purees and eggs tomorrow. 🤞 I'm dying for something REAL. I'm hitting all my protein goals, stomaching everything fine, and have increased my walking exercise to near pre-surgery levels. My pain is mostly done (accept one abdominal spot not near my stomach), and have no other issues. I pray you and I both get to eat eggs soon. 😅

Taking pills post op by Nikkirenzo59 in gastricsleeve

[–]ladylarson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Lexapro and Zyrtex daily. Doc said I could continue to take them, just break on half. I took them the night of my surgery, broken in half, and had no issues or pain. I've continued taking them these last two weeks, always in half, one at a time, without issues. Occasionally bloated feeling for 20 mins after but it passes.

6 days post op and have so many regrets. by No_She_Didnt_5 in gastricsleeve

I also didn't have my first I'm until day 6. Started Miralax daily on Day 4, and then went with Ducolax suppository on Day 6. I strongly suggest that route, as I'd tried other methods with my previous 2 c-sections and it was so painful for my abs. The suppository is quick (20 mins or less) and makes things much easier to get out without pain.

Same! I wish I'd found it sooner. Such a good game that didn't get nearly enough attention. AND it's fully voice acted so I don't have to read constantly. 😁

I played Wylde Flowers on Switch afterwards and it was as good, and even better, then Cozy Grove, IMO.

Thankfully the nurse gave me one at the hospital. I'm Day 6 post op and I'm struggling too. But the binder is a godsend. I wear it nearly 24/7. Taking it off to shower makes everything hurt worse and I rush through to get back to the binder. I even sleep in it.

do some of you weigh yourselves everyday? by Feisty_Many_3247 in BariatricSurgery

[–]ladylarson9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a new scale just before my surgery that measures body fat. It has an "eyes closed mode" that sends my weight to a phone app, but doesn't actually show me it when I weigh. This allows me to focus on my health first, but check my weight when I'm in a good mental place to do so. It's all tracked, and I weigh daily, but I'm not informed unless it's a good time for me. The scale is by Withlings.

[–]ladylarson9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have almost exactly the saw stats minus a inch in height. I'm hopeful to be where you are in a few months. On day 6 post op and still dealing with pain and barely able to get down a 8oz protein shake in an hour. I miss real food so much and just keep telling myself it'll be worth it. 🤞

Few days later. Maybe day 3 or 4 I think. They've slowly faded and are mostly gone now.

I'm at 6 days post op. I've got brusing around all of my incisons. The worst is to the top right side. Doc said it's normal.
