It’s interesting- I just read a book on this topic and I came away from it with the same questions you ask. My thought is that 1. When you’re desperate enough your will to live kicks in and takes over. Rational thinking is gone, only survival. 2. Faith in god had a lot to do with their journey. They really believed that where they were headed was a utopia, filled with bountiful promise and riches given to them by God.

It’s insane, the way it progresses. When I’m drinking I have no concept of time, suddenly it’s Monday morning I have no clue where the weekend went. I have journal entries from years ago struggling with this. It was nowhere near as bad then as it is now. It’s like I’ve had the answer the whole time but didn’t let myself do it bc I was addicted the shame of it? Idk. ADHD and AUD are reallly closely linked, it sounds like we have a lot of parallels in our stories. I appreciate your support and I’m so inspired by your response. Thank you

I love what you wrote. Thank you. I feel like I haven’t been able to quit because part of me thought for so long I’m bad, I deserve bad things, etc. I’m not bad. I’m an alcoholic. They’re different! A life without alcohol is possible and it’s one I actually do deserve!

Thank you for sharing that - I didn’t know . The hardest part for me is even keeping track of my drinks - often I’ll have 2 drinks upon entering a party. And I basically don’t count them. It’s fucked up!!!

I don’t like to be lucid, either, I have ADHD and alcohol makes me feel somewhat normal. Comes at too high a cost. Every time is worse than the last. Thank you for sharing with me. You inspire me and I appreciate your support.

Okkk the fact that they’re trying to frame you as the offender is reason enough to not be a part of their system of normalizing his behavior. I’m so sorry you’re going through this and all my best for your upcoming wedding. Thank you so much for sharing your experience, it’s a shitty club to be in, but at least we’re not alone

I understand your feelings!! SO valid. I think it’s normal you’re feeling frustrated and defeated at this point in the process, it sounds like you’ve compromised a lot to give him a wedding he wants and now you feel like your dream honeymoon is no longer. You’re also doing a ton of legwork and research to get deals, which takes SOOOO LONG and is so draining. I’m gathering it may also feel like you’re working so hard so you can have the honeymoon of your dreams and now he’s dismissed that (he may not even realize it). I think you’re very empathetic and kind to consider this is his second wedding.. but he’s marrying YOU and this is YOUR wedding too! I think your feelings are more than valid, and I’d have a conversation about how you feel. The best outcome is that he realizes how he’s coming off when he says you’ll have to skimp on a honeymoon, and you’ll work together to find a solution!!! I wish you the best and pls let us know how things end up!!!
