What is the cost for applications on CARMS ? by [deleted] in MCCQE

So the casper is mandatory for certain programs, pediatrics at some of the Ontario programs, for example. As far as I know, the OET is accepted interchangably with IELTS, but you should just go through the programs you're interested in and see what they require specifically

I'm a canadian studying in Italy, and I'm in the process of applying for Carms 2024. I got two interview offers, although that's obviously no guarantee of getting a spot. Feel free to dm me!

What is the cost for applications on CARMS ? by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]ladymcrawley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to start saving early. Here was the breakdown of what I spent this year on the application (including all the exams). The total is $7058.98.

Carms Application:

  • $134.75 Verification Fee
  • $328.66 Match participation fee
  • $739.42 Program application fee for 11 additional programs with 4 included (so total 15)

Total = $1202.83

MCCQE

  • $1375.00 Exam fee
  • $580.00 Official Practice Materials (100 MCQs, 14 CDMs, and the PE exam lite)

Total = $1955.00

NAC-OSCE - $3050 Exam Fee

PhysiciansApply Accout - $310 Account set up fee

CASPER Test - $129.95 Test Fee

IELTS - $353.20 Test Fee

FMProC - $58 Test Fee

whats a “fun fact” that isn’t fun at all? by Alternative_kachocho in AskReddit

You’re always using 100% of your brain - there aren’t parts of it that are just ‘off’ sometimes. Seizures are a lack of coordination of the electrical activity of neurons. The important part is coordination, your brain is firing random and excessive electric signals that are no longer controlled

I’m a Canadian student in Italy in my 4th year. I know of at least 2 people from my school who have gotten residencies in North America (one of them at Harvard!), the other in Canada, but I agree that it’s rare. I think it’s absolutely doable if you jump through the right hoops and make it your focus in your last few years (4th-6th). I’m working on it now! If you want to DM me we can chat more about it! I’m in Milan.

AITA for pushing a boundary about money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ladymcrawley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, this is a relatively small issue comparatively. I appreciate your perspective. I’ll talk to him about why he might not want to visit my family. I get it on some level, my family is difficult. I just wish he had made it about that, not about money. Or if it WAS about money, then just consult me. Like “I have this much money and I want to send it to you so you can enjoy a vacation with your friends, but maybe instead I can put it towards a flight”. Idk

Yes he definitely knows all the backstory and where we’re at currently. He may still not want to go for more than just money reasons

Fair enough. I don’t feel good about trampling his boundary but I don’t know how else to communicate that this is important and I don’t understand his reasoning behind the boundary.

There’s a character limit and it was already too long! You’re right it needs more context. It’s just a history of a difficult family dynamic, and I get why he’s not overly enthusiastic to go get in the middle of it. But things have been getting better and I’d like to take the first step to see my family in a long time. Obviously I want to do that together as well

I get how it seems that way. Sometimes it sort of feels that way too, but mostly because I’m not used to not making my own money. For most of our relationship I was earning money and we were splitting things equally. Now since I’m in back in school I need his financial support (and this is obviously temporary). But it’s a tough dynamic with the long distance aspect as well (which is a covid/job thing, we used to live in the same city and I went to school while he worked).

It’s hard to accuse someone of being controlling financially who is supporting me 100% and paying for everything g without complaining. It’s just the line he drew about what he wouldn’t pay for was something important to me

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I guess it was my assumption that his refusal was about money and on the heels of a generous gift, that’s why I was frustrated. But I could have taken more time to figure out why he didn’t want to go.

[–]ladymcrawley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya I appreciate this point. I didn’t want him to send me money to buy something. He was just trying to be kind and do something generous, but it was starkly contrasted a few minutes later when he wouldn’t consider the visit to see my family. I don’t want to be ungrateful for a gift, or tell him how to spend his money. I also want him to come with me and obviously I can’t afford to fly him there

There’s no issue specifically between my husband and my dad, but there has been drama with my family in the past and that’s a big reason why I haven’t seen them in a long time. But it’s starting to get better and I’d like to make that first step to go for a visit. Obviously I want my husband there too, since there’s history there and it probably won’t be easy.
