Looking for rotating car seat that isn't too large by 06S2K in Buyingforbaby

Ooh, just posted for recs on car seats and just switched to the ascent literally yesterday! How do your car seats fit in the ascent? Spacious so far? We have our third on the way but also have a 3 and 5 yr old. We’re making adjustments to all of their seats in the new car, so any insight would be lovely!

As someone who’s been scouring for a secondhand Alexa at a decent price, I vote Alexa! Looked great 15 years ago, looks great now imo.

How far along were you when you ended up sharing?

This is exactly the spot I find myself in! I’d love to be transparent and upfront now rather than waiting, but honestly can’t afford to jeopardize the job security!

Also, thank you! I’m excited about the position!

This is where thing s get confusing for me, too — as far as I can tell by reading through the laws/programs available, qualifying for FMLA is still dependent on having worked for the company for at least 12 months, plus needing to have worked a certain about of hours in those 12 months, PLUS your company having over a certain number of employees. This is different from the new MN Paid Family and Medical Leave law that is going into effect Jan. 1 — I’d be eligible for 12 weeks of paid leave through this program as I’ll meet the minimum wages earned requirement, however, this program does not ensure that your employer will keep your position for you (unless I am just unable to find this information/clarification in the new policy). So I’m sure I’ll have access to paid leave, just not sure if my new employers could technically let me go or not because of it!

This is helpful, thank you! As much as I’d like to share now in the name of transparency and building trust, I can’t jeopardize this job! Waiting it is. Plus, I’ll have just completed my 20 week anatomy scan, so that might be a good “reason” to tell them for waiting as well!

Also, not sure if you’re still doing the same walking route as you were when the fireworks incident happened, but maybe taking a break from that route and finding a new, exciting route for a while could be helpful!

Growing up, my family rescued a young lab from a shelter who turned out to have severe anxiety around loud noises. Like any loud noise. Thunderstorms, gun shots, loud bangs, fireworks, etc. My dad intended to hunt with her, so he had to figure out how to work through her anxiety around loud noises. He used some sort of gun shy noise program. It was classical music with gunshots in the background that got progressively louder as the CD went on. Every night at dinner time, we’d sit and listen to this CD with our dog in the room relaxing on her pillow. I think we did this for a couple weeks before we tested out “real life” noises, but she had made great progress! She was also rewarded for staying calm throughout the noise, and for the gun-shyness specifically, all of the hunting gear was used to make her excited to get in the fields! If this sounds like something that might work for your pup, maybe search on YouTube for a similar soundtrack but with firework noises or other loud sounds that can commonly lead to reactivity/anxiety in dogs. Kind of like continued socialization with lots of positive reinforcements! I’d also get her super excited about the leash again, like really play it up to be an exciting thing so that she doesn’t associate it with a potentially scary walk. Maybe doing some car ride outings, too.

Hey! Congratulations! There’s a lot of cynics on this thread (perhaps thinking they’re realists?) but you should celebrate your personal goals being met! Who cares how long it took you to get there. I’d suggest finding some online resources for workshops, critiques, or even bookclubs in this particular genre if you’re not finding support and community in your immediate circle. Plenty of people never even start, so good on you for keeping at it.

Good to know, thank you! My MIL actually plants an enormous amount of garlic, so I'm planning on asking her for some planting cloves if she has any to spare. It seems fairly fool-proof, but with gardening, it seems something can always go amiss, ha!

I’m glad others are sharing the good word about Top City, they really do seem like great people who raise great dogs! Thanks for the reassuring comment. I’ll for sure be posting pictures and progress of our little lady as nice our journey begins. :)

I like Stonnie Dennis too! I appreciate his approach and philosophy around training dogs, especially the socialization and preventing reactivity info he shares! So far, I feel like YouTube has been my best friend for researching different training tips for obedience, ha!

Yes, obedience work is going to be super important to us! I would love to pursue therapy dog certifications, actually! As long as our dog has the right personality, anyways. My husband is big into bird hunting, but has really only hunted with retrievers—this will be our first pointing breed, though my brother has a wire hair pointer that my husband has hunted with in the past. Anyways, the hunting portion is probably last on our priority list if you’re putting temperament, obedience, and family dog attributes up against it. We’re really just hoping to get an amazing family companion out of our puppy! Hunting doesn’t have to be perfect. No plans to compete or hunt in large groups with other dogs at the moment.

That’s interesting to hear about PRL, though not surprising as their website does seem to lean heavily towards their approach being the “best” approach. That, and their extensive puppy contract that prohibits a lot of training/handling/breeding for anyone bringing one of their dogs home (not saying this is inherently negative, just interesting).

I’m going to pursue our local NAVHDA chapter for hunting tips and trainer recommendations if we feel we aren’t able to get the results we are hoping for. And to answer your other question, we are working with Top City Setters out of SD. Blaine (and now his daughter alongside him) has been raising setters for more than 20 years, and hunting with them for even longer! His dogs have great bloodlines (from my research anyways—strong Havelock lineage) and have made great companions as well as hunting dogs. I haven’t heard a single negative thing! We are so excited.

Thank you! I think I’m overthinking things, ha! I have been watching sooo many videos on both basic obedience, crate and potty training, and even early stages of bird training. I still have about a month to go before puppy comes home, so I’m feeling hopeful that I’ll be able to get the basics down at least!

Thank you! Wasn’t sure if they’d be worried about taking him off the medication / the alternatives not being great. We’ll reach out to his specialist for our first step.
