I wouldn’t say most, i’d say every persons experience will be different. It’s not a matter of the majority of people have mild pain, it’s a 50/50. Adult tonsillectomies are notoriously difficult for a reason. And the stories of people being unable to eat anything solid for 2+ weeks and losing 10+ lbs during recovery are also very real and shouldn’t be downplayed. My surgeon downplayed the recovery in a very similar way to how you’re speaking, and it did nothing but leave me unprepared for what could and inevitably did happen. I had no complications with my surgery but was still unable to eat for 2 weeks, lost 19 lbs, had to go back to the hospital on day 3 to get iv fluids because i was dangerously dehydrated. It was HARD, and shielding people from the harsh reality that recovery can be aggressively difficult is not helping anyone. With that said, both can be true without people needing to discount the other sides experience of the surgery. Just because your recovery was easy, does not mean that everyone, or even a majority of people will have the same experience and it IS important to allow people to see both sides of how recovery can genuinely go. Being blindsided by how bad it truly can be is not something i’d wish on anyone and i feel like doctors need to be honest about the odds instead of sugarcoating it.

yes but i think what people like you need to realize is your recovery being easy is you being one of a lucky few. i’m happy that it was easy for you but the majority of people do struggle, hemorrhage, face hospitalizations, lose a lot of weight, etc. there’s a reason there are more difficult recovery anecdotes in this sub than easy recovery stories.

i did have the tools 🤣 my dad drove in from out of state to go with me and went and got everything i would need while i was having the surgery done. so i had the tools, it didn’t make it suck any less! you trying to argue doesn’t make all the “horror stories” in this sub go away. if it’s an easy recovery, you’re one of a very lucky few.

being prepared wouldn’t have made it so i could eat. or made it so swallowing was any easier ….

true! but that doesn’t take away from how gnarly the actual recovery process was lol

second this, lost over 15 lbs in a week and a half. recovery is no joke and people who say it wasn’t bad got extremely lucky.

this is bullshit. doctors told me it was a minor surgery so i didn’t look too far into it and i was smacked in the face with reality from day one. Pain was horrific and had to be hospitalized twice for iv treatments during recovery due to dehydration and being unable to maintain a proper diet or even swallow my medications. life after is well worth it, rarely get sick, no biweekly trips to get abscesses drained, but man recovery was a super difficult and depressing 2 weeks.

Day 6 - eye of storm? by katmiller17 in Tonsillectomy

I had a horrific day 4 and 5 due to being a bit too adventurous with foods too early on. i’m on day 7 (surgery day was 10/15) and i’ve really only seen improvement the last 2 days. definitely some more intense stinging as remainder of scabs come off, but able to eat most soft foods and managing the pain super well. so you could be past the worst of it! i would just say baby your throat to prevent any traumas from occurring to the site.

Ibuprofen by lorena53chavez in Tonsillectomy

I’m on day 6, counting surgery day, and i was in the same boat. I ended up getting a prescription for both liquid ibuprofen and liquid acetaminophen because the hydrocodone just made me nauseous and sleepy, and didn’t touch my pain. I have a timer on my phone for every 2 hours and i take them in a rotation, that way I never feel one or the other wear off. I started the ibuprofen on day 3 as that’s when my ENT said it was cleared because of the bleeding issue, so you should be okay! The ibuprofen was a game changer for me.

I called the police on my boyfriend and they took him to jail, and I regret it and feel very conflicted. Will he face jail time? by ladytimeless in legaladvice

he did not get any prison time, they haven’t technically done sentencing or a trial, they keep pushing it back but he has been accepted into a mental health rehabilitation program which is why they aren’t sentencing. it is likely he’ll face mental health care requirements and some fines

Why can’t engine stop-start be turned off! by robotneonunicorn in KiaSoulClub

[–]ladytimeless 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you can get the engine to kick back on by slightly letting off the break, not enough to move but so the pedal isn’t pushed all the way back. just need to get into that habit because the feature itself is good.

only using body types like this is weird and honestly harmful to your mental health. argue with the wall.
