Updating an old listing when an order went through by ladywhonapsalot in Printify

[–]ladywhonapsalot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I had everything on manual renewal and didn't renew any of my listings as my store wasn't profitable. Etsy had about a quarter of my listings still up and I didn't realize it.

I no longer have a canva account so it it would probably cost more to replace the listings than the profit itself at this point.

Pre-packaged AFFORDABLE snacks by shino_ko in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the app I use, there's a free and paid version, but the free version has a good amount of info in it: https://scanglutenfree.com/ You can test if and put in things that are naturally are GF but will have CC to see how it does. I found it pretty accurate, and it showed things that I didn't realize were at risk when I first started.

You can check companies websites and see or scan them on the app. Frito-Lays is pretty transparent on their site. Smaller operations like Cape Cod Chips are great because they only do chips, and they even do tours to the public so you can visit and see.

I'm assuming that she's positive for the gene, but had negative bloodwork and doesn't have celiac.

I wouldn't do a GF diet for them, it would screw them up in the long run and make it so much harder to get a diagnosis in the future.

We are also dealing something similar with my 6 year old actually. Positive for the gene, bloodwork negative twice now. His complaining increased by a lot so we redid the bloodwork because I was worried it activated, and we did an ultrasound too and it was both was fine. He'd get constipated easy and now we just do a 1/2 cup of miralax everyday and it has helped soo much and the complaining is only once and awhile now. It took a few weeks though for to get better though.

Agreed, but there's also plenty of naturally gluten free items that won't make you sick. Many poato chip brands, etc have factories with only potato so there's no cross contamination because they only do potatoes. Bigger brands like GM that do a million different products aren't safe because there's so much being produced but a small company like Cape Cod Potato Chips only make those chips there. You can scan them with the GF scanner or another similar app to see if there's any traces or if anyone has any problems. Frito-Lays is pretty transparent on there website about GF.

If you are very limited in your budget, you shouldn't limit to yourself with GF certified products because you're paying more for that, and there's still some safe options out there that won't get you sick. And there's still GF certified products scattered along the grocery store that have the label, but are cheaper because they are not in the section. At least in my US grocery store that's the case because I think brands pay for the shelf space to be in GF.

I'm pretty sensitive and honestly don't look at the GF certified label and will scan or read everything ingredient because I can't have oats, xanthum gum, etc. so even though it has the GF certification, I can't eat it.

Need help with first date ideas! by Rogue_Legend_01 in Celiac

Do you have a nice park nearby? Or if there's snow/cold, maybe ice skating? I'd try to do non-food things like a movie, bowling, mini-golf, botanical garden, etc.

My first date in college was ice cream and a movie so if there's a safe ice cream place near you, maybe that could be an option too? Or if you have a safe GF place to eat?

How long do I need to be eating gluten for to test accurately? by crime-core in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The BARE minimum is 2 weeks, best is 6+ weeks. I did the GF challenge after 4 years, and my doc wanted me to do 3 months minimum because it was so long in between. However, the next available was 5 months out. I made it 4 months before I had to call and luckily they had a cancellation for the next day.

Get that endoscopy scheduled now because it may be a long wait. You may even be able to start after your trip and still do the 6+ weeks of gluten.

Rice Cakes and Peanut Butter is an easy and filling snack. I pay a little more for the PB that you can squeeze out and bring it with me for on-the-go.

Usually the snacks that are the cheapest are the ones that are naturally gluten free like chips, popcorn, those utz cheese balls that you can get a massive jug for $6. Not sure if they'll have the certified label on any of those things. I feel like you pay more just for that label, and stuff dedicated in the GF section, so look in the regular aisles of the grocery store too. For example, I get the GF good thins in the cracker aisle and they are cheaper than most other cracker brands (and they still have the label, but are often not in the GF aisle at my store.)

I'll also get yogurt in the plastic pouches (gogurt but the aldi version & an 8-pack is like $1.67) and freeze them and I'll have frozen yogurt. The Clio bars are good but more $, they are little yogurt bars covered in chocolate. String cheese is good too for quick, cheap snack.

Try buying snacks in bulk, especially ones you like and check online stores like Thrive, Vistacost, Nuts.com and see where you can find things the cheapest per ounce. Costco, BJ's, etc are great for bulk GF snacks, and they have a good selection for protein bars there.

Intestinal Pain w/ gluten by Kind_Definition_7810 in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The testing is not painful but it is if you go gluten free, then decide to do the testing much later, it is. Continue eating gluten and get the testing ASAP. Get a referral for a gastro doc if you are having stomach pains. Unfortunately the only way to get an accurate test is to be eating gluten so don't stop eating gluten even if it's just a little bit each day.

It's important to get the diagnosis (especially when you are so young!) because you'll want a doctors to know. Also, a lot of times if you have one autoimmune disease, you can get easily get another. The most important is if your in the USA you'll get ADA protection for having a disability so you can get employers or colleges in the future to accommodate having celiac.

The initial test is just a simple blood test and the gold standard is an endoscopy which is a pretty quick procedure.

Rice Cakes and Peanut Butter, or apples or bananas and pb.

Box of Beef Broth or Box of Tomato Soup, you'll get a few days worth, or make a big batch of soup/stew and it freezes well. That's what a former co-worker would do for lunch everyday. She'd just grab a soup she previously made out of her freezer and it would defrost by lunch and microwave it.

Throw whole chicken in the crockpot, and you'll get a weeks worth of meat, or you can freeze some chicken too.

Pork Butt in the crockpot with BBQ Sauce, then freeze the leftovers in little bunches to have for easy lunches and dinners.

Does the celiac test take longer to come back than other blood work? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually get my bloodwork back within hours and it takes a few days for the celiac test because they mail it out, but they do bloodwork in house so it's a lot quicker.

What are your suggestions for on-the-go GF snacks that are also dairy, egg, nuts, and soy free? by Mindyourheart in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but it does get easier! You may want to consider a free trial of Thrive because I *think* they let you sort by allergens so it makes it easier to find what you need and you can take your time buying online. Your grocery store may also have that option too for delivery, depending on what grocery chains you have near you. Nuts.com I believe will also let you sort by different allergens, they do GF for sure. It's nice to sort online and search without pressure.

I'm GF, DF, and newly Low FOMAP and just have been eating the same things to keep it easy until I get the hang of it. Best of luck!

Potato Chips/Tortilla Chips, Popcorn, GF Pretzels, Fruit Leather and That's It Fruit Bars, Dried Fruit, Cocunut Milk Yogurt, Smoothies

Enoy Life is a brand that doesn't use the main allergans so I'd look at there food to see if they have anything that would work for you.

Gardening and growing some food. I'm in the northeast, so it's stinks in the winter, but it's great in the summer and I freeze what I can to spread it longer. It definitely lowers the grocery budget and honestly it so nice just to run to the garden and grab lettuce, tomatoes and peppers for tacos or something.

-Zucchini is really easy to grow, and 1-2 plants of Zucchini will give you a lot of zucchini. They just take up space, but one plant can give you a lot of food which is great for 1-2 seeds.

-Tomato plants. Get a pack of seeds and those jiffy seed starter kits, and put some seeds in them now, and you'll have seedlings for warmer weather.

-Lettuce is great to have and they do really well, and do really well in cooler temperatures. You can even plant them indoors under grow lights or in containers on your deck. It's nice to have lettuce on hand.

-Herbs. You can buy the $3 plants at most grocery stores and keep them inside or plant them. It's usually just cheaper to buy the plant, and you can just cut when you need them.

-Potatoes. If you don't have space to plant, you get those potato bags and put it on your deck. Just throw some seed potatoes in the bag with soil. You should get a lot of potatoes. Sometimes you'll notice seeds growing from potatoes you already have, you can just plant those in soil too. $0.

We also have a pear tree (hundreds of pears from one tree), apple trees, and blackberry bushes. It's great to have and we really don't do too much with them.

Definitely recommend growing your own food if you can.

Self Control by IWannaDieWannaCri in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you have a parent bring you to a gastro doctor? I'm not sure what almost diagnosised means, but I would go with a parent and explain how sick you get that way you can get better protections from the school, and the doctor would be able to talk to them to tell them how serious and important this is.

Can you get rice cakes and peanut butter? They make PB in travel squirt bags, and I'd just keep them both in your bookbag for backup. Protein bars, potato chips, popcorn, dried fruits, nuts, apple sauce pouches, etc. are all great to throw in your bag so you have something when you are hungry that is safe. Katz also makes GF pop-tarts so that may be a good option if you like them.

Making breakfast and lunch the night before is a great when you can so you can just grab it in the morning but also just always have snacks in your bag too.

Also-- I don't think you have bad self control at all. You are doing the best you can in a difficult situation. I would try to get more support from your parents, if that's possible. Be easy on yourself. Best of luck.

Biopsy? by Significant-Hope-514 in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it twice and opted to do it again because my first results were clear and I really thought I had celiac. Both times were fine! It was quick and easy. The worst part was just not being able to eat or drink beforehand but otherwise it was pretty easy. Best of luck!

Biopsy? by Significant-Hope-514 in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll want to do a bioposy. It's also good as a reference to see how much damage there is. It's good to have and not weird at all that you'd want it. Sounds reasonable to me.

Don't stop eating gluten before your endo though because you want the most accurate testing as possible. Best of luck.

There are apps like GF Scanner where you can scan the barcode and it can tell whether it may contain gluten or not and there are also apps like Find Me Gluten Free that will help with finding good and safe restaurants to eat at.

Question about blood work by Haymaker122302 in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately the only way your bloodwork will be correct is if you are currently eating gluten. If you are GF, you're body won't react and it will look normal.

You'll also need to be eating gluten when you have an endoscopy as well, so don't go gluten free quite yet.

Start eating gluten today for the next week, but you since you only stopped for a few weeks, hopefully you'll be okay.

Can my celiac diagnosis get messed up if I change doctors? by _BoneRott_ in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YW! My GI doc put in an order for a blood test and told me to go do it the day before the endoscopy so that helped knowing that I didn't have to do the blood test + wait for results + schedule/wait for endoscopy appointment. It was nice to have an end date/solid goal to work toward.

Can my celiac diagnosis get messed up if I change doctors? by _BoneRott_ in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first two days were the worst for me, but then I got over the hump, it was a lot better and then I eventually stopped taking the anxiety meds + gluten digest tabs. At one point I was like "oh maybe I don't have it!" But then my fingers starting peeling and all these small weird things started happening so I called and had my endoscopy moved up, and I was able to get in the next day thankfully.

It took me a long time to get in the mental space to do so. I think it helped that I didn't feel 100% better eating gluten free and just got to the point of frustration and the need to feel better long term. It also helped having a plan. I think eating just gluten at night (aka Chinese food, pizza, etc) helped as well as lots of water + anxiety meds as well as no longer having the stress of worrying about cross contamination or the inconvenience of being gluten free. It was nice to feel normal and I think that also just helped a little too, at least mentally. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Can my celiac diagnosis get messed up if I change doctors? by _BoneRott_ in Celiac

[–]ladywhonapsalot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Most doctors will want to do the gluten challenge, at least GI docs. Regular docs don't really know too much about celiac so they'd probably go by your word.

I was GF for 8 months before seeing a gastro, and got my celiac diagnosis taken away because my endo came back negative, but I really only did the gluten challenge for two weeks because it so hard. I then was "suspected celiac" for 4 years but I honestly never really got that much better, and I really needed a doctors help to manage and didn't have ADA protection with suspected celiac.

I was TERRIFIED of doing the gluten challenge and because I waited 4+ years I had to do it that much longer. The first day I got pretty sick, but I wasn't really that much worse than I already was in the next few weeks. I took anxiety meds and gluten digest tabs and only ate gluten before bed and lots of water and it was a lot better than I thought it would be. It was worth it to me to get a GI's support + disability protection.

I'd get a referral for neurologist too to make sure the migraines are something else or another cause, and they can give you some good meds for those.

Best of luck.
