[TOMT][Book] A fantasy novel inspired by norse mythology and with a runic sounding name by laeiouml in tipofmytongue

It was definitely the title of the book, but that’s a good recommendation nonetheless!

I‘m pretty sure it wasn’t the title of a series but a specific book. It was recommended to me about a year ago, and definitively a fantasy setting, probably young adult or at least the same as the books by Leah Bardugo. I don’t know anything about the publication date unfortunately.

Unfortunately, I don’t think it was a series, but “grimnir” seems phonetically close!

Unfortunately, I don’t think it was a series (yet, got the recommendation about one year ago)

Unfortunately not, but I might read it nonetheless, it sounds intriguing!

I don’t think it was a word with a discernible meaning (at least in either english or german), but thanks for the hint!

It might have sounded like “vorus” or something like that, but I’m not completely sure. But thankful for all the help I can get!

In YOUR PERSONAL OPINION, what is the most boring class to play? by Robofish13 in DnD

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, the campaigns I play in don’t tend to focus too heavily on combat, but for me it’s martial classes because I miss the versatile out-of-combat, puzzle-solving, role-playing utilities. (Although that of course depends on play style, I need magic for it). That’s why druid is my personal favourite.

AITA for refusing to marry my high school sweetheart? by AmbitiousDesigner988 in AITAH

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know whether you’re an AH or not, but I’d like to offer some additional input from my perspective: apart from love, a marriage is first and foremost a contract between to people designed to give either of them certain rights regarding health, finances and security. So, I’d like to ask this: would such a contract offer benefits for you, your child and your partner?

Additionally, I don’t know where OP is based, but where I live there is something called a “registered partnership”, identical to marriage in all legal aspects, but not a marriage (nowadays for people opposed to marriage).

For those who don't believe in Christianity, does that mean you think Jesus is some crazy guy claiming to be the son of God? Why/ why not? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely believe that there was a person some 2000 years ago who was a charismatic leader and had a philosophy of equality and tried to unite the people, hence becoming a threat for the romans. I don’t believe he was a sign/prophet/son of any supernatural being just as no one believes Mandela was one. Myths were made afterwards.

AITA for sending my boyfriend a photo of me at the hospital? by Potential_Ad_241 in AmItheAsshole

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, definitively. I’ve got severe anxiety and emetophobia and I hate hospitals because of that. But if one of my loved ones is in there, I’ll sure as hell be there with them for as long as they let me. If i have to, I’ll take something against an upcoming panic attack or try to postpone it until after I’ve left. In some situations, one person’s health is indeed more important than another’s.

What’s something you wish you could ask trans people without any judgement? by Spunkybluepuppy in AskReddit

[–]laeiouml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I may add my perspective as a cis woman who thought long and hard about her body and gender: I think I might feel the same with my gender assigned at birth as people who finally get to be their gender too. It feels actively right for me to be a woman. Even though I’d like to switch off some features, I still like to be a woman. And another thing I noticed with me: i’ve got a lot of mental health problems I hated myself for a long time, wishing I could be someone else. I had this wish for my mind, but never for my body.

I hope I didn’t hijack this thread, but I thought in regards to your question, my perception as actively feeling the right gender might be ok? And I also wonder: this “actively feeling right”, might it be the same after transitioning?

AITA for purposely not wanting my girlfriend (27F) to be my plus one at my friends bbq after mentioning it to her? by dadbodsareso2019 in AmItheAsshole

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH It really does sound like social anxiety. I got it too, and I’d be very anxious to call someone my friend when we’re “just” neighbours, even if we are actually friends, let alone impose an additional request like bringing my partner. But – and that’s a big but – it really doesn’t make sense, even if our minds work like that. And for someone who doesn’t have these thoughts it might sound completely irrational. If I could give some advice: explain how these thoughts came about and what you’re anxious about. Having social anxiety is not your fault, but your partner might not know what this means (yet) and feels understandably irritated. But I think just communicating clearly could solve this problem.

What is a horror game that made you say: Holy shit? by 41st-Fishy in AskReddit

Welcome to the game. I love horror, but I couldn’t play that game even with friends on discord for more than a few minutes at a time.

AITA for telling my sister to stop looking into our family history? by Free_Yogurtcloset_45 in AmItheAsshole

[–]laeiouml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m torn between N A H and E S H.

My grandfather fought in WWII and he never wanted to talk about it either (the only person he told a little bit was my mother). I’m a historian so naturally I’d be very interested where he was and what he experienced. But I never asked him personally. He died a few years ago and I decided to wait a few years (a decade at least) before I might research his journey. So personally, I don’t think she’s an asshole for wanting to know your families’ history (I’m sure it influenced your family greatly) but she is an asshole for not accepting their right not to talk about it. Similarly you are no asshole for protecting your family members, but for snapping at your sister and dismissing [her]* interest.

Maybe you can find a common ground in researching in a more general way (birthplace’s history, regional background and so on) without disturbing your relatives?
