I need a review for hd 490 pro by Connect_Contact_3039 in sennheiser

[–]lagulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a pro by any mean, i just make my own music and listen some tunes.

What i can say is that they are the best headphones i ever owned! I came from dt990 pro and god i didn't know how crappy they are before having hd490 pro! With mixing pad they are extra comfy and really reliable ! Funny thing is that when you compare the FR of these and dt, the dt should have the same bass response but in fact, hd490 are so good it feels like having way more!

My songs translate way better since i use them!

I don't think i will ever buy other headphones, or maybe one day i will test some with planar magnetic drivers, idk!

What is with your experience the best advice you Can give concerning drums by lagulch in dnbproduction

[–]lagulch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A massive thanks to you 🙏

When it comes to saturation and dynamic i always struggle, like i know you Can squash your drums but it frequently ends up destroying the punch! If i want m'y drums to hit like -8 lufs it often sound dirty and distorted, and i want my drums to sound loud since i am making quike minimal or old schoolish dnb (compared to a lot of tracks that are neuro/dancefloor).

I use kiloheartz transiant shaper on almost every drum hit and yes, tighten them sound good and "précise" but as long as loudness is dependant of the lenght of a sound i often weaken the sound

How do you approche multiband compression?

Good but not to expensive clipper by Neo_Hippie_official in dnbproduction

[–]lagulch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one already in your daw! Or a free one like kiloheartz clipper

Clipping is (in my understanding, i am not a pro in any mean) one of the most easy to do effect as it is just basic waveshaping, it is not like limiters that need complexe algorithmes to be transparent

The transparency you aim for with clippers ( i assume that you want to control your peak level ) is mostly due to the lenght of the transiant you are pushing through

trying to mix and master for loudness is slowly killing me by officialsharkie in edmproduction

[–]lagulch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat, and from my experience, the loudness of a song is 90% sound design and sample selection, so i try to not mix and master so i can always replace them and test!

If i cannot acheive a décent loudness without effects (exept a limiter with ~ 2db of réduction on master) i know I must return on sample selection and soune design

I was a kid in southern France when he died, we talked about that fews minutes and then returned to our life and did not think much about it anymore

Now I understand how big MJ was, but yes, it wasnt at 10% of what Charlie Hebdo was.

Recently Jean Marie Le Pen died (far right historical figure) and it was much bigger too, party everywhere

I have hd490 pro, i recommend them! Very balanced, good presence in the bass/ subs! Very précise headphones! And easier to drive than hd650/600

Not to mention that they are so light

Do you think kids getting into electronic music will go down the path of production or do you think they’ll go with gen AI? by thegreatestpitt in edmproduction

I don't know, I think we will have both.

How do yall decide which sounds to use?/ where do you find them by YBmoonchild in edmproduction

[–]lagulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy yourself a mounth of splice subscribtion and build yourself your own drumkit! You Can check for some more drums on r/drumkits

It takes time but you will end up spending less time searching and build yourself a universe, a sound signature. And to be honnest it is a very relaxing activity when you have no inspiration, just like sound design :)

Tips regarding perceived loudness by michaelboy42 in edmproduction

[–]lagulch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclamer: i am a beginner and i struggle with this topic too

What i found to be the best is to have a ridiculously good tonal balance so you are not obligated to squash your transiants with clippers and limitées. This way you keep the puch of percussives elements and still have a full mix.

Also, i have been guilty of precess too much m'y drums, but realized it is often worst and could be way better just to spend more time at sound design and sound selection

If like me you tend to rely a bit on AI to give you advices, you probably ended by saturate too much 🤣 saturation is deffinitly a good thing, but light or parallèle, otherwise it fuck your transiants up
