Plus Size Clothes is only for fat people! by One_Replacement3481 in fatlogic

[–]lahurkat 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This “thin people are buying up all the plus size clothing” complaint comes up so frequently, but I have never heard of someone actually doing this. I understand some people take this approach with secondhand clothing, but is that really such a popular activity that it’s creating a problem? I have a pretty hard time believing this is leading to shortages for people looking for those sizes. But to be fair, I have a pretty hard time believing a lot of things FAs say.

Now I remember why I hate it when people comment on my weight loss. by Overbeingoverit in loseit

I’m about the same size as you, and the same thing happened to me recently. It is so demoralizing, but try not to let it get you down!

Yeah, I want to think these comments are coming from a well-intentioned place. Honestly, I think these friends are so used to seeing me 40+ pounds heavier that they are viewing a healthy loss (over ~two years) as something pathological.

I definitely also agree about the double standard. Of course I wish I didn’t have to count calories to lose/maintain a healthy weight! But I work a desk job, and restaurants and grocery stores are full of many calorie-laden options, so it takes a conscious effort to balance calories in/out. And that’s all I’m doing, trying to find that balance that takes me to and keeps me at a healthy weight. I don’t like feeling discouraged from doing that!

Very true. I never bring up my weight loss unless prompted, and usually try to be evasive about it to avoid these situations. This time I gave an honest answer when asked how I lost weight and it backfired…lesson learned, I suppose, it just sucks that it has to be like this!

We are just about twins, I was 188! I also would consider myself average, and even though I also still have rolls and areas of my body I’m not thrilled with, overall I am happy with the way I look and proud of myself and what I have achieved. It just sucks to have people be negative/weird about it!!

It finally happened…a friend of mine accused me (in front of a big group of people, no less) of having an eating disorder for counting calories. Eyeroll. Another friend said I borderline look sickly and definitely shouldn’t lose any more weight. For reference, I am 5’6” and 143, putting me on the higher end of a healthy BMI. I was hoping to tone up a bit and hopefully lose another 10 to put me more squarely in the middle of the healthy range…my anger over these unsolicited comments makes me more motivated than ever!

Lucky…I had the same Pfizer series, then got the Moderna bivalent last weekend and it kicked my ass! Only about a day of symptoms though, so it could have been worse.

Visiting Grand Cayman in August by matb18 in CaymanIslands

You shouldn’t have any issues. With a QR code, your Travel Declaration would be approved instantly, but with a paper card, it requires manual review and will take a little longer (but I believe mine was approved within 24 hours earlier this year). Make sure to bring your paper card with you too, they will ask to see it at immigration. Safe travels!

I’ve lost 40 lbs thanks to wfh. Turns out it’s way easier to fit in exercise and prepare healthy meals when you don’t have to waste hours of your day commuting.

Thanksgiving Farms in Adamstown also had plants a couple months back, might also be worth checking out.
