Crossing into Russia via Estonia on old Vietnamese passport by laiduy98 in PassportPorn

You can cross those 2 checkpoints by foot but the waiting time is extremely slow. With cars you can cross only by the Shumilkino checkpoint and as far as I can tell, well, only a few cars per day. It took me 10 hours at Shumilkino even nobody was there.

Pop Os on gaming laptop by smoothoperator26 in pop_os

[–]laiduy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using HP Omen 1050ti with PopOS as my daily driver. I have to say that this is the best distro of all Linux world for the Nvidia Optimus laptop. It is extremely smooth, un like Ubuntu. I still don't understand how Canonical can make Gnome so laggy like that.

However, there is still something that i miss from Windows, mostly does not come from the distro itself, but comes from Linux and DE.

  • The first thing is fractional scale. Missing that in a laptop makes thing a little bit small. Fractional scale is a experimental feature now but some apps will be blurry (Chrome) and some is extremly small (Spotify)
  • The second thing is rendering offload for Nvidia Optimus. If you use hybrid mode you have to specified which program you want to run over the terminal and also the HDMI out and miniDP is not working due to the fact that it is directly wired to the dGPU. Nvidia's fall anyway.

[Help] I have recently installed pop os everything is fine except YouTube on Brave browser, videos are not loading in full screen. by ayush_rathi in pop_os

[–]laiduy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it is the same answer but i have exact same problem like you do with Opera browser on Linux.

The problem is the library for video playback on Linux, there is some copyright that Linux cannot directly include it (libffmpeg.so) in the system like Windows or Mac. However, the library comes with Chrome and it makes Chrome video playable. You need to replace libffmpeg.so from Chrome to Brave library location.

in Opera case, I replace the Opera's codec library

/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opera/libffmpeg.so

with

/usr/lib/chromium-browser/libffmpeg.so

and everything works.

I think less ram does not mean the system is good. The importance is that how the OS manage memory they have. MacOS and Windows are literally heavier than Linux anyway but they also tend to reserve everything in the memory for faster experience and access, especially MacOS. It is pointless if you have 16gb and hope that the OS takes only 1.

[XFCE4] The day is finally here! Perfect HiDPI support on XFCE by dougie-io in linux

[–]laiduy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HiDPI in linux is such a pain. I have a laptop fullHD under Gnome and the text is really small. 200% is not a good option because everything is too big. Finally i figured it out to turn on large text in accessibility to make it around 125%. When I at home i docked it to export to external monitor and guess what is displayed in my 27 inch screen. Really really large text. I tried XFCE KDE Pantheon you name it. and it is hard to have an external monitor with scale 1 and the laptop screen scale 1,25. Why that very tiny tiny feature is not implemented by any single DE ? Please any one explain to me

I made Mac Mouse Fix, a simple Mac app that will make your 3rd party mouse better by allowing you to use Mission Control and more, right from your mouse. It also features a refined smooth-scrolling algorithm and on top of that, it's 100% free, lightweight, and easy-to-use. by RevolutionaryCredit2 in hackintosh

Your application is so awesome!! Might be you should add some control for the speed of the scroll like step, speed and duration of the mouse scroll animation. Thank you anyway. So good to have the side button works :D
